Ambient Liveset (Home Concert 59)

video upload by Martin Stürtzer

"Welcome to the 59th edition of my Home Concert series. In this set I present five new Ambient tracks. I used a few instruments, which I had not in my studio for a while. Like the Moogerfooger Ringmodulator, the Modular system and the Waldorf Microwave 1 (in the rack off screen). Music was arranged in Bitwig using midi for the hardware synths and also a few software instruments. My main controller is the Midi Fighter Twister with a script for Bitwig.

hardware seen: dirtywave m8 x 2, midi fighter twister
hardware unseen: polyend play (handling MIDI for the lights), TE TX-6 (for recording)"

RA Sessions: Sandunes - Ever Bridge (intro) / SSP4/Untitled / The Trust

Resident Advisor
Published on Aug 10, 2017

One of India’s leading electronic music artists performs her dazzling live set.

“There are some amazing artists coming out of India,” a woman named Dhwani told us at Magnetic Fields last year.

'There were always a lot of artists—ten years back, 20 years back—but [now] I think they’re getting a platform,' said a woman called Saloni.

It’s likely they were both referring to artists like Sanaya Ardeshir, who makes music under the name Sandunes. Ardeshir is part of a gradually swelling wave of Indian artists whose success locally is beginning to translate internationally. She produces and performs a highly engaging style of electronica that blends elements of UK club music with influences from her homeland. A track like “Crystal Pink,” which appeared on her 2016 album DOWNSTREAM, is a good introduction to her sound. Ardeshir intuitively sculpts the arrangement, building a series of subtle climaxes through soaring synth harmonies, while the drums rattle and fizz underneath.

Beyond the Sandunes project, she’s also built her profile through a series of collaborations. Ardeshir plays synths for the popular group Dualist Inquiry, and has worked with the famed Indian rock band Indus Creed. She’s also involved with Different Trains 1947, an upcoming project led by Actress that commemorates the 70th anniversary of India’s independence. They’ll perform at Liverpool’s Edge Hill railway station, the Barbican in London and the 2017 edition of Magnetic Fields.

We’d guess the thing that’s really drawn people to Sandunes is her live performances. Ardeshir has been playing piano since she was a child, and you can sense how natural she is in front of keys during this RA Session. The 15-minute set is made up of “Ever Bridge,” “SSP4/Untitled” and “The Trust,” a string of old, new and revised music.

Pocket operator ROBOT vs Atmegatron

Published on Feb 21, 2016 Robin Fitton

"By total luck the Griffin laptop stand has a lip on the front which is exactly the correct size to hook on a Pocket Operator by the hanger. I have a Soulsby synth and a DJ Tech Tools Midifighter twister. Sorry about the music, it is just a random sequence with some beats played from the MPC Touch and Soulsby Atmegatron v2 for a rhythm. I promise to actually try and make a proper sequence next time ;)"

Savor the Flavor Soundpack (Week 19)

Published on Jan 26, 2015 KM Productions

MIDI Fighters on eBay

"This week I present you with a soundpack that provides soulful flutes, rumbling bass, bongos, hand played percussion and some really awesome vocal shots. It’s another 16 pad pack, but let me assure you there are many layers and samples to each pad. I really enjoy hiding these numerous samples within one bank as it allows you to vary the sound without having to break your rhythm or switch banks. Enjoy!

SERIAL Soundpack (Week 18)

Published on Jan 19, 2015 KM Productions

MIDI Fighters on eBay

"Over the holidays my wife, daughter and I took a nice 5 hour drive up to see my in-laws, about 2 hours into the trip with the baby sleeping in the back, we decided to help the time pass by checking out this new podcast called SERIAL, to say the least it's addictive and you quickly want to uncover the mystery. Needless to say the score/music they use is amazing! So my soundpack brain quickly went to work and this is the result. Compiled of 4 banks, 64+ samples which range from moody piano, to creepy bass, and some airy acoustic guitar. It's a slight departure from my normal, but I think it's nice to step out of your niche genres every now and then. Hope you enjoy this one as much as I did! -Kyle

Rheyne - Live Jam #113 (Two MIDI Fighters and a Launchpad)

Published on Jan 19, 2015 Rheyne

Update: breakdown video below.

"Live looping with MIDI Fighters, a Launchpad, and Ableton Live. Recorded in one take with no pre-recorded loops or samples.

Two pages are being used on the Twister. One is dedicated to an instance of Turnado on the drums channel. The 2nd page contains blue, green, yellow, and red vertical rows, which match the instruments on the MF3D’s four banks. The first bank (blue) is for piano. The green bank is drums, the yellow bank is a monophonic instance of NI’s Massive for bass, and the fourth red bank is a polyphonic version of Massive. The top two rows of the Twister are master lowpass filters and resonance for the group channels, and the bottom two rows are reverb amount and mix. The MF3D’s tilt axis is mapped to the lowpass filter and resonance on both instances of Massive. All loops recorded with the Launchpad are MIDI, except the first piano loop recorded into Ableton’s audio looper (mapped to the MF3D's side buttons).

Equipment:
DJ Techtools MIDI Fighter 3D
DJ Techtools MIDI Fighter Twister
Novation Launchpad
Macbook Pro

Lighting:
Enttec DMXIS
2x Chauvet Slim Par 56 LED

Software:
Ableton Live
Max for Live
Sugarbytes Turnado
Native Instruments Kontakt

It’s a Trap feel to welcome you to 2015. So while the holidays/traveling prevented us from doing an elaborate split screen video from both myself and Apoth to coincide, we hope you appreciate the pack regardless.
