Wayfar MidiNES

via this auction

"This is a rare MidiNES cartridge made by Wayfar, a.k.a. x|k. MidiNES is a cartridge that offers robust MIDI control of the Nintendo Entertainment System's internal 5-channel synthesizer - a serious chiptune tool, or just a great way to get iconic Nintendo sounds! Here are the 5 channels:

2 square waves
triangle wave (the iconic NES bass sound)
noise (great for percussion)
DPCM sample playback, preloaded with classic drum samples

MidiNES is extremely difficult to find. It is difficult to buy them from Wayfar due to an extended waiting list, and they appear on eBay only rarely. This one is in excellent physical shape, and perfect working order.
It will ship in an anti-static bag inside a padded box, and will come with a Nintendo cartridge sleeve, which is not pictured. No manual is included - all the documentation is primarily kept online at Wayfar's site."

Free Weekly Ableton Live Rack #6: "AfroDJMac Nintendo Rack"

YouTube Uploaded by AfroDjMac on May 3, 2011

"Chip Tune aficionados and video game lovers rejoice; this weeks Ableton Live instrument rack was created with the sound card of a Nintendo Entertainment System, accessed via WayFar's MidiNES. (awesome piece of gear... http://www.wayfar.net ) It contains a pulse wave channel and a triangle wave channel. True to the original NES with some extra features. Very warm, familiar, gritty, dirty, and nostalgic.

Every week I post a new Ableton Live Rack, please check http://www.afrodjmac.com for synths from the last few weeks and for next weeks.

Ocean Orbit Interview on Neon Tuesdays

"Andy Cousins and Dmitry Shklyar of Ocean Orbit have been rocking out parties for the last year with their indie/dance live sets. Their Nintendo influenced sounds are as original as their name. They’ve released an album last year and I can promise you that you will hear a lot about Ocean Orbit in the near future. They are technical wizards when it comes to hardware tweaking and if you see them play live, you’ll definitely see them rock out the original Nintendo Entertainment System! Come see them at the grand opening of Neon Tuesdays @ Tonic Room (2447 N. Halsted) on February 23! I’m proud to have them booked as our first live guest!"

Full interview here. MATRIXSYNTH gets a mention for best synth blog on the web. :)
