Nozoid CV precision demonstration

CV precision demonstration from Nozoid on Vimeo.

"This video is a proof that the nozori CV are accurate enough to track a pitch over 10 octaves.

What you see in this video is :

- a VCO on the left of the rack that is used as a reference frequency. It output a saw waveform, displayed on the bottom of the oscilloscope screen.

- a 2nd VCO, in the middle of the rack with a frequency controlled by a SQ-1. The SQ-1 is configure to play only 1 step, with a CV range of 1 octave. The VCO output a square wave, displayed on the top of the oscilloscope screen.

- both oscilloscope voice are synchronized to VCO 2: when they are not in sync the VCO 1 voice move quickly.

- at 0'27", I tune the VCO 1 to by in sync with VCO 2

- starting at 0'39", I change the note on the SQ-1 : the 2 VCO are not at sync anymore

- the synchronisation is back at 0'47" when I put back the correct note in the SQ-1

- latter in the video, I play more with the SQ-1 pitch, going up and going down. When back in the middle, the 2 VCO are in sync.

This prove the great precision of the CV control and the absence of hysteresis.

With 12 bits controlling 10 octaves, the precision of a bit is about 3 cents."

Nozori by Nozoïd : A New Concept in the Eurorack World

"Encouraged by public success of the OCS-2 and MMO-3, Nozoïd dust off eurorack systems with it's new concept : nozori.

This platform allow to easily switch from one module to another, with the same hardware. Changing modules is as simple as changing jumpers position!

A kickstarter campaign has just been started to finance the production of this hardware. A good opportunity to be the first to get one, at a lower price.

The nozori concept consist of using the same hardware for multiple modules. This hardware is based on a powerful digital core to allow huge versatility. Potentiometers, inputs or outputs can adapt to many module designs: from standard modules like VCO, VCF, LFO to outstanding functionality never seen before. This solve two problems of the eurorack world: the price and the size of a system.

You can unleash your experimentation process without spending much on new modules : one hardware allows more experimentations since you can try many different modules. You may have a module that you did not used anymore. With a nozori, this will never happen : when your rack evolves, you only need to change few jumpers to find the perfect module for the situation.

2 hardwares are available : the Nozori 68 with 6 potentiometers, 4 CV in, 2 audio IN and 2 audio OUT, and the Nozori 84 with 8 potentiometers, 2 audio IN and 2 audio OUT.
This 2 platforms allow an extensive range of modules. The available list is impressive : shape morphing VCO, morphing VCF, FM or other sound generators, sequencers, shape morphing LFO, chaotic CV generators, sound effects. A total of 40 modules, have already been developed. Since the production of a Nozori module did not involve any hardware cost, Nozoïd had developed very specific module that other manufacturers do not risk producing.

A simple 5 modules rack offer more than 3 millions module combinations. Nozori unleash creativity at a small cost!

Nozori module can be used with there reversible white / black panels. Their elegant design will perfectly fit in your rack. An extension pack is also available. It include optional front plates that can be added to show the control parameters of a specific module. This pack also expose the jumpers on the front panel to swap module within seconds.

The nozori website contains more information, including video demonstration of all modules.

Here are the full specifications :
12U eurorack module
POTENTIOMETERS : 12-bits at about 18KHz sampling rate
AUDIO IN : 24-bits at 96KHz, DC Compatible, from +/- 5V (clip between +/- 6 to 7V)
AUDIO OUT : 24-bits at 96KHz, DC Compatible, delivers +/- 5V (can go up to +/- 7V)
AUDIO IN/OUT latency : 0.17 ms
CV IN : 12-bits at about 18KHz sampling rate, from +/- 5V (clip at +/- 5.3V)

New Nozoïd MMO-3 Digital, Semi-modular, Monophonic but Stereo Synthesizer.

MMO-3 presentation from Nozoid on Vimeo.

The MMO-3 might look familiar. The design is very similar to Nozoïd's previous synths, the OSC-2 and MMO-4.

The following are some details and pics via Nozoïd where you'll find additional demos and details.

"MMO-3 is a digital, semi-modular, monophonic but stereo synthesizer. Built around various types of modulation synthesis (AM, FM, PM, WS), this synthesizer is mostly dedicated to atonal sound generation. From fat drones, glitchy electronic patterns or percussive noise, the MMO-3 offers rich and complex timbre control.

"Unlike most FM synthesizers, the MMO-3 is not limited to a specific modulation routing. All 3 oscillators can be modulated by all other oscillators or LFOs. Modulation parameters are accessible thanks to 9 knobs for an accurate and continuous adjustment of the timbre.

Moreover, it’s not only a FM synth : it also offers Phase Modulation, Amplitude Modulation and a custom Wave Shaper modulation technique where an oscillator amplitude can be amplified prior to a wave-shaper in order to add harmonics without frequency variation.

Also, a joystick allows for easy manipulation of modulations, for a fast and expressive control of the sound.

What is inside?
30 control knobs
A joystick to control modulation parameters
3 oscillators
FM, AM, PM and Wave Shaping modulation
3 LFOs with complex waveform

via Nozoïd:

"OCS-2 is a digital, semi-modular, analogue style synthesizer. Small, but very powerful and flexible, it provide an incredible sound quality. Dedicated to knob addict, this synthesizer is full of feature that define it’s own unique sound.

Why is it so special?
First, the sound quality is impressive : this is not a cheap 8 or 16 bits synthesizer : it implement state of the art audio synthesis algorithm.
OCS-2 provide lot’s more than the essential of a modern dual oscillator monosynth. Original waveform, shape morphing LFO, there is a lot of unique feature :

30 control knobs
Few atypical waveform with incredible fat sound
LFO that can continuously change waveform
A CV GENERATOR with different algorithm to generate random to rhythmic modulation
4 audio effects
A very powerful digital connection matrix
A light sensor to control sound with hand gesture
Customizable and possibility for software update
Very compact
Incredible sound quality

What is inside?
2 VCO providing 15 different waveform
1 VCF (multi-mode, including a 24db/Octave low pass resonant filter)
1 VCA
1 ADSR
3 LFO (2 with configurable waveform, 1 with CV frequency control)
1 custom CV GENERATOR with 4 different algorithms (Attack Release, dual LFO, Random, Non Linear)
1 audio effects processor with 4 different effect (Distortion, delay, bitcrush, waveshaper)
1 ring modulator
1 CV controlled MIX (for VCO1 and VCO2)
2 octaves keyboard with portamento

1 Stereo line-IN with envelope follower and gate control
1 MIDI input (note / velocity / pitch wheel / modulation wheel / control change)
3 analog CV IN and 1 GATE IN
1 light sensor
Why will you love it?
Since it is very small, you can carry this synthesizer everywhere. You can even use a 9V battery as power supply. With an embedded audio multi-effect, you don’t need anything else!
But this synthesizer can also adapt to your setup: add a midi keyboard and your ready for endless jam.
OCS-2 is also perfect as a computer complement : prepare some midi loop and use them in combination with the modulation faders as CV controls.
With a line audio input, 3 analogue Control Voltage In, and one 0/5V Gate IN, OCS-2 can also be a great addition to your modular setup.

The extensive number of physical control allow an easy and effective sound tuning. 30 faders intent a direct access to all sound parameters, so you can only focus on the music.

The light sensors is also a great for music expressiveness : use the shade of your hand to control your sound! Your performance on stage will never be the same thanks to this feature. This is also attractive for studio work since it introduce a very different control than a fader rotation.
