Starter Kits | Episodes 03 - 05

Starter Kits | Episode 03 | Production Value
video by Cinematic Laboratory

"In this episode I'll give Plaits a final run, teaming up with Frames, Blades and Beads. I wanted to try and create a full track using Beatstep Pro & Ableton Live with Plaits as the only oscillator (and Beads for some effects). It's a weird futuristic track, but hey, it must sound 'minimal modular'. Uploaded earlier today, but I wanted to take out some things I am not sure about yet."

Starter Kits | Episode 04 | Bloom, Pico System III, Desmodus Versio

video by Cinematic Laboratory

"After three episode of Plaits it's time to go analog with the 'westcoast' inspired Erica Synths Pico System III, Qu-Bit Bloom sequencer and the insane Desmodus Versio reverb. The workflow is completely different and you'll have to make your sounds from scratch. It sounds completely different too! Technically, it's three modules, but Pico System III has 13 'pico' modules stacked away under one faceplate. So it's definitely a mini-modular with huge potential, but you have to discover it yourself!"

Starter Kits | Episode 05 | VPME Quad Drums & friends
video by Cinematic Laboratory

"In this episode I've joined Pamela's new workout and Mimetic Digitalis with the 'canned fun' Quad Drums module from VPME. If you have to start small, this is a great module to get totally eurorack addicted. I also makes it very easy to explain why modular synths are so cool.

There's a snippet of WMD Metron in the video to explain the difference between Pam's clock magic and a full rhythm sequencer. If making beats is your true love, then Metron will help you to build your ultimate modular drum machine patterns."

ARP 2600 with Euclidean Circles

O.Z. Hall

"The Korg ARP 2600 is augmented by a eurorack cabinet built to support the 2600. The focus is on the Euclidean Circles (v1.9) module and the great rhythms you can easily create with it.

Thanks James Carr for building this cabinet for me!

Technical note. I'm using the Intellijel Metropolis sequencer as a clock source (to start/stop the sequence). The actual sequencing that you hear is from the Behringer 960 Sequential Controller."

Industrial Music Electronics Bionic Lester MKIII with QD + Delta V

Published on Nov 1, 2019 Perfect Circuit

"The Industrial Music Electronics Bionic Lester MkIII is a slippery beast, capable of shifting from squelchy lowpass to gritty comb filtering/delays at a moment's notice. Paired here with the Mutable Plaits, Cosmotronic Delta-V, and vpme.de Quad Drum, it provides the backbone for a series of short jams and timbral explorations.

Bionic Lester MkIII is a dual digital filter inspired by the golden era of Virtual Analog synthesis: two filters with mode morphing, preset memory, and overdrive at the input, providing conventional lowpass, highpass, and bandpass, as well as the opportunity for comb filtering, intense feedback, multi-peak filtering, and more. The vpme.de QD is a quad digital drum module that can act as a sample player, wavetable oscillator, or digital drum modeler. Cosmotronic's Delta-V is a slope generator borne from the legacy of the Serge DUSG, adding two VCAs for easy end-of-chain voice construction.

QD Quad Drum with samples, synthesis, compression + more from VPME // Superbooth 2019

Published on May 18, 2019 DivKidVideo

"It's always a pleasure to see Vlad from VPME although I was gutted we missed the blue hair spray on the last day. He looked rather dapper with a sprayed on blue rinse vibe going on at the start of Superbooth. The QD is a quad drum voice that can playback samples or use on board synthesis to play and create percussion sounds with control over pitch, decay and volume. The sounds mix down in stereo with EQ, mutes, compression, level and pan controls. It's a performable, shapable, modulatable four part drum machine. Lovely stuff!"

Eurorack Sync & Reset Issues

Published on Dec 17, 2018 Learning Modular

"Different clocked modules interpret their 'reset' input in two different ways. Of course, my main two pattern generators (Grids and Euclidean Circles, both being driven by Pamela's New Workout) each used a different method, so I had to find a way to resolve them. Here's what did and didn't work, and why.

This video was originally created for the Learning Modular Patreon supporters, and came with a long post providing more detail: https://www.patreon.com/posts/my-new-...
