Vermona ’14 Analogsynthesizer Monophonic Lead- and Bass-Synthesizer Now Available

You might remember back in October it was announced the Vermona '14 was entering production. It appears production has completed and there will only be a total of 222 units available. You can find previous posts on the Vermona '14 including video here.

Details on the release via Vermona:

"With the completion of the ’14 Analogsynthesizer, a long fostered dream becomes true: The design and realization of an uncompromising synthesizer for instrumentalists.

Equality of haptics and sound
To us, expressive play means a balanced relation between melodic virtuosity and sound shaping. In our ’14 Analogsynthesizer, these factors unite in full equality: Keyboard, pitch- and modulation-wheels are incomplete without the additional controls and switches of the remaining control surface. These offer direct access to each individual sound shaping parameter of the synthesis engine.

The ’14 Analogsynthesizer is perfectly suited for distinctive solo and bass sounds including dynamic and individual sonic variations which are completely under your control at any time.

Uncompromising circuit implementation
The components being responsible for the sound-generation and -shaping are based upon our proved and tested circuits of PERfourMER MKII and Mono Lancet ’15. However, we did not just carry over these circuits but have adapted and refined these specifically for the ’14 Analogsynthesizer. Besides stability and musicality, we paid great attention to an intuitive and practical scaling of each and every sound parameter.

The ’14 Analogsynthesizer follows the classic subtractive synthesis structure: a versatile lowpass molds the sound-source being created by two powerful analog oscillators. Typical for Vermona instruments, the sound is warm, round, classy and offers musical authority in the mix.

Handmade in our electroacoustic manufacture in Germany
There a hundreds of work steps from the assembly of the circuit boards to the final, rigorous quality assurance of the finished instrument. Without exception, these steps are carried out with skilled craftsmanship and expert precision in our Elektroakustische Manufaktur in Erlbach, Germany.

Each ’14 Analogsynthesizer is an outstanding instrument and leaves our manufacture as one of just 222 units."

Vermona's Long Awaited Analog Synth ’14 Set to Ship Next Month

First teased Christmas Eve, 2014, the Vermona '14 is getting ready to ship.

via Vermona:

"Finally, we started producing the first ’14 Analogsynthesizers. And it’s about time - after all, we plan to deliver the first units next month.

It’s awesome seeing how the individual parts merge into something beautiful that we worked so hard on. But looking beautiful is not the point. In the end, each instrument has to fulfill our high tonal standards. Thus each synthesizer will be carefully adjusted and checked and has to pass our obligatory endurance test. A thing well done needs time.

VERMONA 14 - Analog Synthesizer Sounds 【SYNTH DEMO】

Published on Feb 22, 2019 synth4ever

"With circuits adapted from the PERfourMER MKII and Mono Lancet ’15, the '14 was built with stability and musicality in mind, with special attention given to approachability and stellar sound quality.

The '14 Analog synthesizer is a classic subtractive synth: a beefy lowpass filter shapes the sound of the two powerful analog oscillators. Like Vermona's other analog synth options, the sound is markedly warm and round, demanding attention and adapting smoothly to a variety of genres.

It has 2 VCOs (sine, saw, rectangle), mixer, LPF filter (12, 18 and 24 db), 2 envelopes (ADSR), LFO (saw up, saw down, square, triangle, sine, S&H), VCO Modulation,, arpeggiator, MIDI and various other features.

In this demo I showcase some sounds from the Vermona 14 including noise type patches, sample & hold, arpeggiator, LFO tweaking and more. The Vermona 14 is a very high quality subtractive analog monosynth with great sounds and capabilities."

New Vermona '14 - Analog Keyboard Synthesizer

You might remember Vermona's teaser posted here in December.

Some new info is in via Amazona.de. It's in German, so here's a rough translation in Googlish:

"Vermona '14 - an unconventional name. Just before the Vermona team departed for NAMM, offered, quasi in passing, the opportunity to take a quick look at the new synthesizer. Here are the first impressions.

The analog synthesizer is a full-blown version of the Lancet module. The 3½-octave keyboard (44 keys) has a pleasant synth-action keyboard and the housing and the controls make a solid, reliable impression. The large panel promises a safe handling on stage.

structure
Vermona '14 is monophonic, a duophoner mode as it is presently just hip is not provided. The sound production have two identical VCOs with sine, sawtooth and square (PWM) and two sub oscillators, with a sinus, with a rectangle that can be mixed to the mixer. In the mixer, signals can override what appears roughly three LEDs. The VCO can be synchronized and also provide, if necessary on a fixed pitch. Noise and External In enhance the sound sources.

The filter is not a multi-mode, but only a low-pass, but corresponds to the most common applications.

The slope can be switched between 12, 18 and 24 dB. Also filter FM is possible. Two fast ADSR envelopes and LFO accept the modulation."

And of course click the pics to view editable parameters.  You'll find a few audio demos at Amazona.de here.

(Vermona '14): "Rumba in Blue" (MIDI-Synth)

Published on May 25, 2019 Kris Lennox

"Listen to the sound of that thing. For a straight-up mono tone, the '14 is hard to beat. In this recording I'm playing with a range of tones, from a rave sawtooth sound (i.e 0:51), to something more akin to a Polivoks (2:21 ish). In fact, when the filter is backed off a little, the '14 can sound very similar to the old Polivoks. I'd certainly understand if someone on hearing only the few seconds @ 2:21 thought they were hearing a Polivoks.

This track I wrote in the DAW (as a MIDI file). The '14 keyboard is decoupled, and I'm sending MIDI from the DAW to the '14 (via the mio cable). The MIDI is a straight 127 velocity value; it is simply the filter/settings etc on the '14 giving the sense of dynamic variation (if creating works with huge filter variation, I generally keep velocities within a narrow bandwidth, as certain filter positions can kill notes at lower velocities).

The piece, despite being for monosynth, is written to sound like three parts. Tricky to compose in this manner when harmony is non-existent - but worth the effort.

MIDI files are probably to electronic musicians what sheet music is to Classical players. I like the idea of someone else taking a MIDI file, running it through their own synth/modular, and doing their own thing with it. To me, this is the same as a Classical pianist sitting down and giving their own interpretation of a work.

Of course, electronic musicians will know MIDI files are like gold dust. They are the key.

Rather than holding on to my own MIDI files, I'm happy to sell them on. I'm also happy for others to run any of my MIDI live, release tracks on their own albums, splice the original file and use as they wish etc. If anyone wants the MIDI file for this track, I'm willing to sell it for £25 (paypal). Again, do what you want with it when you have it. The fun is doing your own thing.

PS I'll likely upload quite a few midi-controlled works, as I like the idea of others having access to the files and potentially creating their own versions. That, plus I plan on uploading videos of multiple synths driven simultaneously i.e Matrixbrute/Vermona/Odyssey etc.

Enjoy (the '14 really does have a great tone)

And if interested in the MIDI file, just email me (krislennoxpiano@gmail.com)

All best
Kris"

Vermona'14 solo, GRP A4 Sequence

Published on Apr 13, 2020 coyotesynth

"This video is a short teaser of the forthcoming album made by Fabien Labonde, album in which I did those 2 short contributions, as many other musicians.

Vermona'14 is a great and expressive analog monosynth, with many modulations (filter on modwheel, vibrato on aftertouch, great keyboard action). When Fabien asked me for a solo on this track, it was obvious the Vermona'14 would be the one to make it.

GRP A4 is used on a bass sequence later in the track.

Please note this is still under progress, it still miss real drums and other instruments, but what you hear are the final takes from my side."

An Update on Vermona's Analog '14 Keyboard Synthesizer

via Vermona:

"How time flies. It dates back to January 2015, when we presented a first prototype of our ’14 Analogsynthesizer at the NAMM show. We also showed the unit on this year’s winter NAMM as well as on Superbooth 16 (1), along with an announced delivery date for this summer. Well, the summer slowly ends... but where is the ’14 Analogsynthesizer?

Previous history
Last year, we were happy celebrating our company’s 25th anniversary. VERMONA is an important part of this – a brand we revived in 2001 by introducing the DRM1 (2). To celebrate this jubilee year, we planned for something special: an uncompromising instrument, handmade in our Elektroakustischen Manfaktur: The ’14 Analogsynthesizer.

Much too early, Bernd Haller (3), the company’s co-founder, experienced engineer of electronics and passionate musician, deceased early in the same year. All of a sudden we had to rethink our plans and projects. We decided to postpone the synthesizer-project for the time being.

Current status
We revisited the project early this year and have now reached the exciting stage.

The ’14 Analogsynthesizer is no of-the-peg-instrument. Each unit is carefully manufactured by hand and needs its time to reach completion. From mid October on, we will accept first orders and start delivery in November. More details about the order process, scope of delivery, pricing and unit limitations will be announced early in October.

Since the first public appearance of the ’14 Analogsynthesizer, we consistently receive requests for this instrument. We thank you for your patience and your persistence. The wait is soon over and we assure, it was worthwhile!

14 plus 6

Published on May 3, 2019 Oliver G

"Short impression of two wonderful modern analog synthesizers, the limited masterpiece Vermona ’14 and the modern classic Sequential Prophet 6. German and US craftmanship combined.

The Vermona ’14 improvisation focusses on the expressional capabilities of the instrument (via mod-wheel and aftertouch). The patch is starting with only a single (!) VCO. Afterwards, the first of two sub-oscillators and then the second VCO playing a third above the first are blended in.

The delay on the ’14 is provided by a Source Audio Nemesis Delay stomp-box.

Starting in the second third of the track, the Sequential Prophet 6 plays a sequence that has been pre-programmed with the patch. The Prophet is MIDI-synced to the Roland TR-8S which also provides the drum track.

No external effects other than channel EQ and master limiter
No editing, no MIDI sequencing, recorded directly into Cubase

Vermona '14: Jam in G

Published on Aug 10, 2019 Kris Lennox

"Hello all. Very busy the past while, hence no posts. But when the Vermona calls, the Vermona calls! Time for a jam on the '14. Great tone: great bass (try with headphones and the bass at the beginning/end will be very prominent). When I'm looking to have some fun/do a melodic/lyrical solo on a mono, it is almost always the '14 I turn to. Other synths have more features, but when it comes to nothing aside from the pure sound, I do have a soft spot for the '14.

Enjoy/all best

(Vermona '14) Debussy: Syrinx

Published on Oct 17, 2018 Kris Lennox

"Debussy's 'Syrinx', here performed on synth. Original is, of course, solo flute - but it translates very, very well to synth - especially the Vermona, given its expressive qualities.

I'm working on a project at present for a client, hence a different instrument from the norm (i.e. the Vermona is out anyway).

The Vermona is something of a rare beast. Even rarer is hearing a full performance on the '14. It should probably be kept that way i.e. very elusive ;)

I chose Debussy to illustrate the Vermona for a few reasons, namely:

1) It is a great piece for showing off the highly expressive capabilities of the Vermona

2) I'm working on dance music at present, and Debussy makes a refreshing change :)

The tone I've went for here is very unusual/odd - this is to complement the nature of the music. Vermona's tone is stunning. Possibly the finest tone of any modern analog mono. The MB has far greater sound design capabilities - but for a pure tone, there aren't many synths to touch this.

Coloured score on the wall is Syrinx. I often colour to define sections. Great way of quickly showing/identifying structure.

Performance duration of this recording is longer than most recordings. Synths, unlike flute players, don't have the all-very human worry of running out of breath :) as such, phrases can be given full space/length. I personally think the piece sounds great on a synth such as this.

PS here's a link to the score - http://imslp.eu/files/imglnks/euimg/2...
