"Just finished off a big track for a project I've been working on and felt like kicking loose and seeing where I ended up. Digitakt is sequencing everything. Main 'funky' part is DPO and Wogglebug sequenced by the digitakt, Mother 32 & STO are 'FM'ing each other. Organelle 'lmnts' patch based on Mutable Elements is adding additional percussion and there are some (rather basic) hats from the Digitakt"

"The Digitakt feels like a key piece towards me playing live. Here is a piece I made with the Digitakt controlling the Waldorf Pulse via midi and my modular via expert sleepers FH-1. The Roli RISE is playing the equator synth and I have a frippertronics like setup using two expert sleepers augustus loop plugins. The whole thing is routed via Reaper (the third DAW I have on the go :-( Logic is a pain with multiple midi controllers and live is a pain with MPE - Reaper is fairly ugly but does everything I need quite well)"

"I'm trying to get my around writing some songs or pop music but not really something I know how to do yet. last nights attempts produced this which seems a bit obvious or unoriginal to me. However it has some nice sounds in it so made a quick recording....."

RIP Mika Vainio of Pan Sonic

Some sad news in. Mika Vainio of Pan Sonic passed away at the age of 53. The image to the left is from a 2010 interview with Mika on TECHNOCCULT.

Mika has been featured a number of times here on MATRIXSYNTH, most notably in live performances with Franck Vigroux who said it best, "Mika Vainio was simply one a the greatest musicians of today."

via Wikipedia: "Pan Sonic were a Finnish electronic music group founded in Turku in 1993. The group consisted of Mika Vainio, Ilpo Väisänen, and Sami Salo. Salo left in 1996 leaving Pan Sonic a duo. The group was originally named Panasonic until 1998. In December 2009, it was announced that Pan Sonic would disband after their December 2009 concerts.[1] Their final album, Gravitoni, was released by Blast First Petite in May 2010.[2] Oksastus, a live album recorded in 2009, was released in 2014.[3]"

"Mika Vainio was a massive influence and so shocked and saddened to hear of his death today.

Making music seemed better than making words so made this little track - restricted myself to my modular. Using the seaboard to drive the DPO via expert sleepers FH-1"

"Still thinking about the idea of track made using a single Moog Mother 32. This time thinking also about Fripps comment that soundscaping is the best way he knows to make a lot of noise on his own....

The setup is the Mother 32, two instances of Expert Sleepers augustus loop, a Max patch that lets me route audio (switched via the Akai pads) and the LPK25 keyboard oh and a bit of reverb from the Lexicon mpx1. There is a bit of compression added to post processing - I've still not quite figured out how to control the levels with the loopers properly"
