February Filter Sweep YouTube Protest & a Call to any YouTube / Google Employees

Youtube claimed copyright on a synth filter sweep video by ranzee

"I can't believe we are now getting copyright claims just for performing tests on synths! Yep - all I did was a filter sweep - and BAM! Copyright Claim police came on in and took my video away (partially) from the world. This is ludicrous!"

This one was sent my way via supporting member, Synth Addict.

For those not aware, YouTube has algorithms that scan audio in videos for copyright infringement. If something is found in violation, the video is automatically unpublished. The problem? Apparently certain filter sweeps are triggering take downs. This is becoming a problem for synth demos (per ranzee above, and previously mentioned here for example). I am curious what sample is being used for the comparison. Rush's Tom Sawyer? :) Actually, Synth Addict mentioned it being a Chemical Brothers track, which does sound familiar. Anyway, if anyone out there reading this has any connections, maybe you can reach out to someone that can fix this?

For the rest of us, not sure how the following will help, but if anything it will bring some attention to the problem amongst the synth community.

via Synth Addict:

"What users can do:

Post a video on YouTube of yourself demonstrating a filter sweep on a synth or synths of your choice and tag it #FFS

Roland VT 3 Issue

Published on Jul 15, 2017 mCKENIC

"Anyone have any experience with this? Its like the Roland VT-3 'forgets' its positions/presets.
Effect Wet/Dry has no effect and this happens intermittently when I move any control but this example is the Reverb control. When I turn off Reverb, preset 3 'forgets' and acts like it is Bypassed. Selecting preset 3 again takes a number of presses for it to 'catch' and hold.
Baffled!"

Trig to Midi. Eurorack triggering Midi Drums.

Published on Apr 9, 2016 mCKENIC

"1st test of Eurorack Triggers to midi using the 12 input Alesis DM Dock. Here the Flame Tame Machine is triggering a kit on the iPad app - Stroke Machine. No set-up, this is just turned on and hooked up. Better tests to follow :-)"

Stroke Machine is a great app BTW. It's from ex-Waldorf's Wolfram Franke. It's as much of a standard synth as drum synth as well.

MWFX Big Metal Judder

Published on Sep 3, 2015 mCKENIC

"1st test with the MWFX Big Metal Judder. I can see this getting a LOT of use as a Eurorack and drum processor. I think an expression pedal will add a whole new dimension too!"

Not sure when this pedal came out, but I believe this is the first time it's been featured here on MATRIXSYNTH. I usually skip effects as they would take over the site, but when I see a good synth demo with one, I'll post it. Here's some info from MWFX on the pedal for those interested:

"The Judder is an analogue sampler/repeater effect for creating impromptu and quickly renewable sound loops and echoes.

This is the enhanced metal version of the original pedal first made in 2009 and available here. Extra switches and mods have been added to this design to increase the sample length and vary the functionality.

Whilst it was originally intended just as a momentary 'tapped' effect, it can now be controlled by an automatic switching system, meaning the repeat can be triggered/ducked by the sound of your guitar or repeatedly sampled by a pulsing LFO. This system can then also be assigned to modulate the sample length, providing envelope/LFO controlled pitch variation. These features make it possible to achieve noise gating, tremolo, momentary boosts/mutes, sample/hold and reverse reverb type effects.

The repeat regeneration can also now be adjusted and accurately set. Providing single 'one shot' echoes at one end, constant holds in the 12 o'clock position, and variable amounts of self oscillation when turned up. This is particularly useful with the layering mode switched on, allowing for doubling/chorus effects or reverse type swells of echo feedback.

A final addition was the dual footswitch design. One being a soft touch momentary and the other a latching type for holding the effect on and inverting the momentary action. This method is particularly useful when using the expression pedal input (standard, nominal 25k) to alter the sample length.

DreDrum & Maths

Published on Oct 29, 2014 mCKENIC

"A quick & dirty demo of the Buranelectrix DreDrum & Makenoise Maths for my Wiggler friend plastilina/Gerardo.

Maths CH4 is set to cycle and the EOC (on CH4) out is going to Ch1's Trig in. The OR output is triggering the DreDrum and sweeping from Log to Lin on CH1 speeds up the triggers. I hope you can see the Maths set-up at the end of the video, the lighting makes everything a little blurry (sorry).

The DreDrum is a FANTASTIC module and capable of much more than I demonstrated here. I hope to pick-up a 2nd. If it had cv over the pots/osc switches and individual as well as mix outs... it would be to die for! As it is it is a brilliant 3 voice perc, noise, osc and at a bargain price!"
