Tokyo Rain by Ryou Oonishi

New release from supporting member, Vicmod Records.

"Vicmod Records is pleased to announce the second album by Ryou Oonishi titled Tokyo Rain.

This album takes you on an environmental ambient journey with minimal mechanical melodies and heart warming pads. Each track is like a postcard or moment in time with the sounds of the Japanese environment playing just as an important roll as the music.

Ryou primarily uses the Sequential Prophet 5 and the ASM Hydrasynth"

Podcast 292: Ross Healy (VICMOD)

Published on Sep 8, 2019 20Objects

"I think I've seen the handle VICMOD bouncing around the internet forever. I've also been listening to the music of Cray for a while, too. But only recently did I actually put 2 and 2 together to realize that this was the same person!

I've always like the Cray music for its breadth and honesty - it really sounded like a person's inner voice, rather than whatever a synth might naturally produce. And in talking with him, it is clear that this is his primary objective: heartfelt improvisation and sound design.

From his earliest work with a janky 486 computer to his current obsession with Omnisphere (with Buchla, Serge and Eurorack in-between), Ross has exercised almost any machine you can imagine. The result is a person that is looking to be surprised by his environment - and is constantly searching for those surprises.

After our chat, Ross was apparently spurred into digging into the archives, and has release the following for the listeners:

https://vicmodcray.bandcamp.com/album...

You can also check out the whole VICMOD label catalog here:

http://www.vicmod.net/

And, as Ross himself says, check out his work on discogs.com to dig into more of his past:

Enjoy!"

Modularism 2 - Noises Off - 30 Tracks Showcasing the Sounds of the Modular Synthesiser

This one is in via supporting MATRIXSYNTH member, Cray of Vicmod Records, who is featured on the release. You can find a video, sample artist tracks and more at https://www.pledgemusic.com.

"Welcome to Noises Off the second in the Modularism series. A collection of tracks devoted to the modular synthesizer and featuring 30 artist new to the collection.
In recent years we have seen a revitalisation and explosion of creativity in this area from both manufacturers and musicians – a return to these endlessly customisable, generative, idiosyncratic voltage controllable machines in order to create and perform music by a new generation, for a new generation.

In this edition we have ensured greater focus on
the use of modular instruments in creating the
music. The continuing journey to uncover more remarkable practitioners has so far involved rocking up a modular meets, countless hours of trawling the web and, social media platforms as well as following up all those priceless recommendations. The quest, from the point of conception, is to showcase the diverse spectrum of modular music and unending creative approaches by users of modular synthesis.

Law & Auder Records
We are probably best known for our highly themed double CD compilations, “combining an ear for the experimental with a broad-ranging conceptual sweep” and featuring many of the finest electronic music producers. The label that brought you the “groundbreaking" Avantgardism Drum’n’bass, the “tantric-mantric”, East-Westercism collection, “exploring those moments where the mystic vibrations of Eastern scales and instrumental textures fuse with the complexities of digital music”, Minimalism, showcasing the new breed of stripped-down, experimental techno and electronica, the “moody, broody”, low frequency, experimental Female Of The Species featuring women in electronic music, as well as the Luke Vibert and BJ Cole collaborative exotica album, Stop The Panic.

Featured artists:-
Andrew Huang, Angle, Ardisson, Bachelard, Benge, Cray, Designed to Die, D’Voxx, Elizabeth Parker, Fragile Self, Finlay Shakespeare, Ghost Hunter, Hiatusk, Jade Rose, Kams, Ladyphase, Luke Killen, Martin Orman, Metamono, MonoPol, Nina Richards, Norman Phay, Oora, Patrizia Mattioli, Robin Vincent, SunFalls, Supersentient Intelligence Construct, Vile Electrodes, XponentOne, Zoë Blade

GoFundMe Campaign for Synth Repair Workshop Fire

This one in via Ross of Vicmod:

You can find the GoFundMe here.

"My close friend Brett Maddaford, synth repairer, lost his workshop including my mint Roland MC-202 and a friends original ARP Odyssey ( plus so many more great classic synths) over last weekend.

Brett started Vicmod with me 13 years ago and has been a huge part of the worldwide synth community for 20 plus years. He is one of the nicest people you will meet and I wanted to put this out to our amazing synth community.

There is a go fund me to help Brett Maddaford rebuild his excellent synth repair service and home that was devastated in the fire."

Resonant - Featured Artist Series (Cray - Ross Healy)

Published on Apr 26, 2017 brassmonkey

Love the analogy to painting at the very end. It's an interesting concept - reproducing set tracks vs. exploration.

All tubes by Weinglas

"'All Tubes' is the latest release from European noisemaker Weinglas. All tracks from this strange ride into darkness were created with the help of modular synthesizers and sound machines made with tubes. Thanks to Brian from Zerosum Inertia, Eric from Metasonix and W.T. from Trogotronic, who designed and produced these strange machines, Weinglas could turn the warmth and rawness of these old fashioned elements into never-before-heard walls of noise, sounding modern and vintage at the same time."

The following is a video for Tubemaster 2, the 10th track on the release on Vicmod Records.

Some pics of Vicmod Ensemble's recent performance at Melbourne Music Week, Sunday, November 13, in the Melbourne State Library. 350 Melbournians were in attendance. The event focused on electronic music, with Severed Heads performing the following night. Ross Healy of Vicmod did a talk during the day on modular synth history and Vicmod, while the Vicmod crew did demos allowing the general public to play with eurorack modular systems. It looks like it was a great event.
