Here's an interesting bit of controller history not featured on the site before now.

"A classic rare synth from the early 1980s heard on many records of the day - this unit in particular as it was originally a house synth at Electric Lady Studios here in New York. Extensive servicing and restoration work just performed. Working as it should and sounding simply amazing. In very good condition."

"Keyboard has been recapped, new wiring, battery replaced/modded, tuned/calibrated, includes complete Tubbutec Mody/Poly kit which adds midi among other features to this classic synth. The kit cost €179 + ship. So basically $200. Nice thing is you don't have to wait on shipping or stock availability.

The bad:

The Arp suddenly stopped working. Everything else works perfect. It was working fine, attempted to send a CV via a Sub-37 to the Arp clock input, after that, it stopped working. The arp button works (engages arp mode), hold works in arp mode, keys work in arp mode, LED correctly follows arp speed via rate knob, but pattern does not arp. It's almost like the clock input is still looking for a cv signal. I imagine this is a relatively easy fix. I have adjusted my price to reflect this. Aside from that and a few cosmetic blemishes (chipped wood, see pics), all is excellent."

Hillwood RD SONIC EP801 Vintage Preset Synth with Rhythm Section SN 450531

I believe this is the first one to be featured on the site.

Presets: Piano, Honky Tonk, Cembalo, Brass, and String.

"Up for sale is super rare RD SONIC Electronic Piano 801 / EP801 vintage analog electronic piano made in Japan by Hillwood.

The unit appears to be working reasonably well, I noticed 1C# and 4C# keys not responding with 2C# key having slightly bad contacts, but otherwise all the presets sounds and rhythm patterns play fine as I gave it a test. I have not tested the MIC input as I don't have a microphone to test with"

Old Ideas From Pittsburgh Modular

Thought this was pretty cool. Pittsburgh Modular is sharing some modules that never made it into production on their Instagram feed. The following are a few captured for the archives (note: I'm adding them as they come in).

"Old ideas 1. Fragments Generator was an attempt at analog granular synthesis. A great idea that just did not sound good enough in practice. The module in the picture works but it sounds thin and is treated like an interesting design experiment. We made the mistake of announcing the Fragments Generator before it was finished but the circuit never sounded good enough take beyond prototype. We did like the panel layout and later used it for the Analog Replicator. #eurorack #synthesizer"

The Mind of the Synthesizer

"Here's a composition made by my modular synthesizer. The random patch changes dramatically throughout the piece just by slightly tweaking the random parameters of the wogglebug. Enjoy this almost alien piece where the synthesizer gets to choose what sounds are made."

Intellijel µMIDI Tutorial 1 - MIDI to CV

Published on Mar 30, 2017 intellijel

"In this first part of the µMIDI tutorial series, we learn the basics of MIDI to CV conversion, along with what the µMIDI is, what it does, and why it is useful for a eurorack synthesizer.

The µMIDI provides all the essentials to control and sync your Eurorack modular from your computer, iPhone/iPad, or hardware MIDI device with a minimum of fuss. No menu diving or configuration scripts, just two buttons. The connectivity, feature set, and compact size make the µMIDI ideal for integrating your modular with the rest of your rig while not taking up too much space in your case.

The upper clock section features a dedicated 16th note clock output ideal for synchronizing a Eurorack sequencer like the Metropolis. A second clock output with selectable divisions can be used when difference sync events are needed. The run and reset outputs can be used to reset your Eurorack sequencers in tandem with any external sequencer or DAW.

The lower half of the µMIDI gives you everything you need to control a single voice synth via MIDI. Just connect either a USB or DIN MIDI cable to the module, LEARN a channel, and start playing.

Future firmware updates over USB are made easy with the Firmware Updater software.

Features
High speed ARM processor for low latency & jitter.
DIN or USB MIDI input.
Two clock outputs, one with selectable divisions.
Sequencer sync via run and reset outputs.
Precision 0 – 10 V note pitch output with pitch bend & portamento CC support.
Gate and trigger outputs for envelope triggering.
Mod wheel and continuous controller outputs for additional modulation.
Firmware updates over USB."
