Serge Paperface '78 - TKB fun

Published on Aug 25, 2017 batchas

"Enjoying the new calibration I did a few days ago on all 1v/oct controllable sound sources.
I recorded the all session in 7 snippets to share here with you. It's obviously not about the way I play it, but simply about the sound this original Serge Paperface System is capable of producing (of course there's reverb added after the mixer) and the possibilities given by the capacitive touch-sensitive keys of the Touch Keyboard Sequencer

I just like this kind of sounds and the organic, accoustic touch given by the TKB, even in very simple patches as this one here."

Quick nostalgia review - The Complete Guide to Synthesizers, Sequencers and Drum Machines - 1985

Published on Aug 25, 2017 Espen Kraft

You can find it on Amazon here. I also added it to the book thumbnails above.

"A quick review of a book that had colossal impact on me in 1985 as a young teenager looking to buy my first synth.

The complete guide to Synthesizers, Sequencers and Drum Machines by Dean Friedman.
I read it for hours each day, memorizing each word about the synths he goes through in the book.
I finally decided upon the Akai AX-80, pretty much because of his opinion in the book.
In 1987 the book disappeared, and now after 30 years I've got it back thanks to a member of a Facebook synth group.
It's so much fun going through this book again and many of the synths that were very new at the time the book was written has since became classics and the author was right in some of his predictions back then, and in some cases he was not.

If you have the chance to pick it up online or elsewhere I highy suggest you do so as it is so much fun to read. Even more so today than back then maybe.

The two tracks you hear in the background is from my album Those Days and you can find that on Bandcamp, Soundcloud (singles) and on all streamin platforms like Spotify and iTunes.

Casio VL-Tone improvisation by Raymond Castile

Published on Aug 25, 2017 raycastile

"My very first electronic instrument was a Casio VL-Tone (or Casio VL-1, both names are on the instrument). I was just a little kid and already in love with Vangelis, Wendy Carlos, John Carpenter and other synth players. So my parents bought me this little toy synth, either for my birthday or Christmas. I played with that thing night and day. I made avant-garde tape recordings, thinking I was Vangelis recording Beaubourg. That was the only electronic instrument I had until I turned 16, when my grandmother bought me an organ.

The Casio VL-Tone in this video is the very same one from my childhood. I dug it up last night to see if it still works. Yes it does. I plugged it into my mixer, added some effects, and was surprised at how good it sounded. So tonight I recorded this.

The only two instruments are the Roland Juno 60 providing the arpeggio and the Casio VL-Tone providing the lead. I've got some Lexicon and Valhalla effects to fill out the sound and add some texture.

I doubt I will use the VL-Tone again for a recording like this, but it was fun to do this time."

The TR-8 works some minimal percussion. A full version of this jam has been recored and will be posted soon. Enjoy and good luck to everyone that entered the contest!"
