EXPRESSIVE E TOUCHE REVIEW + UNBOXING + DEMO

Published on Sep 11, 2017 once upon a synth

"This is a Expressive E Touche review, unboxing and short demo. This is more of a first impressions video than a comprehensive review. I begin by unboxing the unit, talking about it briefly, sharing my initial thoughts and then doing a short demo with the Roland System 100 Model 101 vintage analog synth.

The Expressive E Touche controller is an expression controller that you can play with your hands. It includes a piece of wood that you touch and which is suspended on a series of springs. You can push it down from the top or bottom or rock it side to side. You can then assign up to 4 CV outputs and up to 4 MIDI CC values to control either digital or analog gear. You can also connect it via USB to control software instruments. You can also program your own presets and load them directly onto the unit to use standalone. Think of it like an expression pedal meets aftertouch on steroids.

My first impressions are that it feels really nice to the touch. It's really well designed and feels solid and sturdy.

Stay tuned to future videos where I will be pairing the touche with a eurorack modular and other synths."

RA Sessions: Legowelt

Published on Sep 11, 2017 Resident Advisor

"The Dutch artist performs a freaky extended live session.

This whole lo-fi, straight-to-tape, DIY aesthetic that’s so popular these days? Danny Wolfers invented it. OK, that’s an exaggeration. But it’s true that the Dutch artist has embodied these characteristics for longer than some of this style’s recent adopters have been alive. Wolfers gets additional respect for never wavering from these core tenets of his artistry. He’s popular, to be sure. He plays live all over the world, and he releases records on big labels like Clone and L.I.E.S. But he still clearly values unfiltered creativity above anything else.

Head over to his website. There’s a section for the Ableton plug-ins he makes and gives away. There’s a bit for his zine, Shadow Wolf Cyberzine. He writes reviews of old synthesizers, and has a section called Obseuriosa where you can download his weird, sample-based experiments. Then see his Discogs page. He has over 30 aliases, and he’s released two albums already this year. He called the first, A Vampire Goes West, “amateur space jazz meets professional ambient.” He described the second, Unfolding The Future With Amateur Space Jazz, as “a lo-fi minimal [wave-ish] version of cosmic space jazz and anything closely related to it... from spiritual soul, G-funk, Ethiopian jazz to ambient and everything in between.” (He wrote and illustrated a 24-page graphic novel for that one.) To summarise all of this in a few words, Wolfers is the real deal.

His RA Session is longest we’ve released so far, which was probably to be expected. He turned up to our London office last month with a trunk full of gear and, roughly speaking, performed five tracks. The first two are versions of forthcoming material, and from around 16 minutes onwards we get Wolfers in full-blown improv mode.

"My first experience (if testing in store won't count!) with the Arp Odyssey. I am speachless. I'll let the video speak for itself and if you have questions, I'll gladly answer to you!
During the video I added on some sounds a little reverb, you'll see why! There's no end on this video, camera stopped after its 4.28Gb allowed on card."

Roland Boutique D-05 Walkthrough with Legowelt

Published on Sep 11, 2017 RolandChannel

"In this video, producer Legowelt takes a closer look at some of the unique features of the new Roland Boutique D-05 Linear Synthesizer.

The D-05 includes many modern enhancements not available with the original D-50. The 64-step polyphonic sequencer is ideal for performance and music creation, and offers the ability to sequence shuffle and gate timing along with tempo and patch changes. You can create, save and recall up to 64 patterns. There’s also a built-in arpeggiator for adding movement to the D-05’s already evocative LA Synthesis sounds.

Plus, the D-05 features all of the sounds from the complete D-50 Sound Library featured in the rare D-50 Memory Cards. There are six Preset Banks and eight User banks for a combined total of nearly 900 sounds! All instantly available at the press of a button.

Every detail of the original has been carefully crafted from the Structure graphics on the panel, to the joystick for editing and tone mixing. This attention has carried through to the implementation of the same PCM samples and 16-voice polyphony as the original D-50"
