via music-service.de

"Get the classic analog sound for your PC ! SAM is a recreation of the famous Oberheim™ SEM analogue synth module.

Our goal was to catch the typical analog sound of the original hardware emulating circuit instabilities, while leaving some limitations behind; so the plugin is polyphonic, allows more than one MIDI modulation source, has an extra LFO for pitch (reacting on the mod wheel) and a noise oscillator.

But besides this extensions, the plugin is following the simplicity and sound options of the original. Clear layout, easy to use, full sound.

64 presets included. A demo version is available.

George Harrison & His Moog Modular - Zapple & Electronic Sound

via the Beatle Photo Blog.

via Wikipedia: "Electronic Sound is George Harrison's second album. Released in May 1969, it was the second and final record released on the Beatles' short-lived Zapple Records label, a subsidiary of Apple Records. The album features two lengthy pieces performed on the Moog synthesizer. It was one of the first albums to make exclusive use of the instrument.

Zapple was intended as a creative outlet for avant-garde musical works. Not long after the release of this album The Zapple label was folded at the insistence of the Beatles' then-manager Allen Klein. Because of its experimental and highly non-commercial nature, Electronic Sound failed to chart in the United Kingdom, and barely made the United States Billboard 200 album chart, peaking at #191.

The album was issued on CD for the first time in late 1996. CD versions of the album have the recordings (but not the titles) in the wrong order. In recent years this error has led many listeners to confuse the two tracks.

The track on LP side one "Under The Mersey Wall" (25 minutes) begins with a series of gunshot-like sounds and appears to be a performance of a single Moog instrument, though often making use of tape delay and echo effects. Portions of white noise from this track are used throughout "I Remember Jeep," one of several jams included on Harrison's third solo album, All Things Must Pass, released in 1970.

The second LP side "No Time Or Space" (18 minutes) uses the sound of two Moog instruments playing at the same time, an effect made possible through the use of overdubbing.

The cover of Electronic Sound was painted by Harrison himself. The inside sleeve included minimal notes on the album and a quotation attributed to Arthur Wax: "There are a lot of people around, making a lot of noise; here's some more."

Synthesist Bernie Krause later pursued legal action against Harrison, claiming that "No Time Or Space" (side two of the original vinyl album; track one of the CD) was essentially a recording of him demonstrating the Moog III to Harrison (this is detailed in Krause's book Into a Wild Sanctuary). Krause also claimed that the demonstration was recorded without his knowledge or consent. Krause's name was originally credited on the front cover under Harrison's cover credit, but it was painted over at his insistence. Despite this, the words "Assisted by Bernie Krause" can still be read from under the silver ink on the original LP pressings.

The words "Produced by George Harrison" appear on front cover of the original LP pressings printed in light blue ink, but were recolored in dark blue and red on later re-issues.

Track listing

All pieces credited to George Harrison.

Side one

"Under the Mersey Wall" – 25:10
Recorded in Esher, England, in February 1969 with the assistance of Rupert and Jostick, the Siamese Twins

Side two

"No Time or Space" – 18:41
Recorded in California in November 1968 with the assistance of Bernie Krause

Note: This is how the titles appear on the original LP pressings. Later CD versions incorrectly switched the actual order of the recordings and the timings but failed to switch the titles."

Solvent "Curtains" (official music video) RDJCS5-ep

Footage shot by Solvent.

"Curtains" is taken from the 12-inch-vinyl/digital release "RDJCS5-ep" (09/2011, Suction Records - suction022).

Available to purchase through BandCamp:
http://solvent.bandcamp.com

In-depth technical info:
http://modyfier.wordpress.com/2011/07/25/solvent-process-part-271/

In April 2006, a Yamaha CS5 monosynth, having been owned by Richard D James (Aphex Twin), with the actual liner notes for his landmark "Selected Ambient Works Volume II" etched into the bottom, was sold at VEMIA auction for approximately $1200 - a bargain in retrospect. The winning bidder was, in fact, a friend of Solvent's, and the synth resides not in a display case, but in Solvent's studio, on generous long-term loan.

"RDJCS5", a new 4-track 12-inch / digital EP by Solvent, is the result. Each and every sound on this record came from RDJ's old CS5, painstakingly programmed and multi-tracked by Solvent over the course of several months. The limited capabilities and sound palette of this humble little synth provided quite a challenge, but ultimately the results are not merely an exercise in technical synthnerdery; "RDJCS5" speaks more of Solvent's musical kinship to thee Analord.

The 12" vinyl edition is limited to 300 copies, in brown chipboard sleeve with sticker, and also contains an additional noise/drone piece at the end of side B. Entitled "Sandpaper", this cut will be individually hand-etched by Solvent, for a 1-of-a-kind cut/click/loop experience."

Analogue Solutions HH88 Eurorack Dual Hi Hat Module

via this auction
Noisebug (RSS)

"Dual HiHat
- 2 drum sounds in 1 module -
OPEN and CLOSED hihats
Width 10HP
Requires 5V

Based on the TR808 Hi-Hat sounds. Both open and closed sounds are provided meaning this is 2 drum sounds in one. When played together the 'muted' sound is obtained. The inclusion of a tune control allows greater variation in sound. A 'Source' audio output provides the raw waveforms for external use and processing.

The HH88 is an accurate replica of the TR808 hihat drum sound. The module is entirely discrete analogue circuitry, based as closely as possible on the original.

The HH88 has addition of a Tune control for both, and Decay on the closed hihat sound.

The two hihat sounds are made up of six filtered square wave oscillators, fed through separate VCA’s controlled by envelopes (a VCA and EG per hihat sounds).

The HH88 can produce more than just hihat drum sounds. The HH88 has the addition of a decay control for the closed hihat and the decay time for the open hihat has been extended. This enables TR808 cymbal style sounds to be produced.

Controls & Sockets:
Tune, CH Decay, CH Level, OH Decay, OH Level.
CH Accent, CH Trigger, OH Accent, OH Trigger, CH Audio out, OH Audio out, Source out"

Vintage 70's Freeman String Symphonizer

via this auction

"In my opinion the sound of the Freeman Symphonizer has a richness and complexity unlike any other string synth. It is as rare as it is unique. It was the first string machine ever produced! (Mr. Freeman actually invented the concept of a "string machine.") It is also the largest string machine I have ever owned and features a full 61 key keyboard and on board spring reverb. The reason to own this Freeman is the sound. It has a very unique and BIG sound. Cosmetically this Freeman is rough from being toured in the 70's BUT no expense was spared in fully restoring every inch of this machine mechanically so it plays and sounds as good as if you went back in time to the 70's and bought your own.

Everything that needed to be done was done including a complete keyboard rebushing. This machine was professionally owned/toured and then put into storage so it did not need that much work to get it perfect. The Freeman weighs 75 pounds and measures 38x33x9 so shipping will be a little expensive, please contact me for an exact shipping quote if you live outside of the USA I may be able to get it to you cheaper than the ebay shipping calculator depending on your location. I do NOT have an original pedal for this one but I have tested it with an original Freeman pedal from my near mint Freeman and it works great. (I would be charging way more for my near mint Freeman with pedal) It would be pretty easy to build your own or modify an existing pedal to work with the Freeman. In conclusion, the Freeman is not in great cosmetic shape (but still looks cool), It works perfectly, has been fully restored, and recently serviced."

Custom Roland Jupiter-8 Reproduction Keyboard Controller

via this auction

"Up for auction is a one-of-a-kind, custom built model of the heaviest hitter of analog synthesizers, the legendary JP-8. Every “synth freq” wants one, but who can afford the $5000 or more price tag so . . . . Our small team of Houston synth experts, builder, modeler and graphic designer took this challenge from concept to reality: To build a full-scale, working keyboard controller that can be used with Arturia’s JP-8V program, soft-synths, or any other synth module. Not only a midi controller, this unit is built around a 32 voice polyphonic synth module with 375 high-quality instrument voices and 100 accompaniment styles that in demo mode, will auto-play for hours!

First, this is an exceptionally accurate model as you can see in the pictures, right down to the stainless steel screws into the beveled side panels, the acrylic crystal and polished fasteners over the faux LED display and signature rainbow of graphic buttons. Huge illuminated on/off power switch and supplied standard 3-prong power cord power up the module inside. Twelve OEM style knobs, pitch bender, LFO button, amazing crystal display and 26 slider caps do not move, light up or operate but are securely mounted to the cover that lifts up and tilts back out of the way – just like the real JP-8 – to reveal all sound selecting and programming controls.

The brain inside is a brand-new Yamaha YPT-220 synthesizer wearing a nifty Roland badge. LCD Display, 9 reverb effects and 102 built in songs allow it to stand on its own as a fully functional intro synth/keyboard, but with its midi on and local “off” – this amazingly accurate model is ready to bring even the most well equipped studio right back into 1985! We’ve used this unit with Arturia’s JP-8V synth free demo and with their on-screen display, slider movement and patch programming – we think this is an amazing combination for anyone who craves their own Jupiter 8 but simply can’t justify such an investment.

On to the back side of the unit: midi IN and midi OUT, jacks for sustain pedal (not included) and output are easily accessed. Internally, a 2.5 watt amp and speaker which is loud, clear and active until a ¼” plug is plugged in, then the speaker is silenced and all audio is redirected though this stereo output jack. Drawing less than 10 watts (unlike the real one you can fry an egg on), we keep it on and set to Sawtooth . . . certainly a surprise when people touch the keys and find sound coming from the unit itself! This unit generates no heat and never goes out of tune.

Now, this keyboard is actual size (it’s a monster) at 43-1/4” wide, 6” high and 19-1/2” deep and weighs in at about 35 lbs. Built entirely of high-grade MDF, marine plywood laminates, our Jupiter is very strong, very well built and easily moved or carried. As a model however, it needs be treated with same care a real JP-8 would require: liquids, small children and cigarettes should stay away.

You may have seen our ¼ scale JP-8 model that sold on ebay last month, or maybe the “black plastic side cheeks for the Juno-60” we produce . . . Our commitment is keeping this classic equipment at the forefront of the modern studio. This project is a result of that total commitment and the experience we have in this area. "

Pet Shop Boys Fairlight CMI Series III for Auction

via this auction
"You are bidding on a Fairlight Series 3 music computer, its an ex Pet Shop Boys system, this unit powers up but currently doesn't boot up from the hard drive (message displays 'insert boot disk') Either the drive was wiped or has a problem. The hard disk powers up and spins up so may well take another format, it will require a set of system disks which are easily available. Current revision is rev5/6. It will need some work to bring it back to full functionality and would be ideal as a project for a collector, musician or studio. The monitor works but is intermittent, so will also need work but this should be a fairly easy fix. The music keyboard has one broken key, and 2 of the keys have been repaired. The qwerty kbd/graphics tablet has the stylus missing ( I have contacts for several replacement kbds if needed) I also have contact details for engineers who can refurb this machine to the later revision 9 Waveform Supervisor and Rev 11.39 MFX2 operating system if needed. This is a very rare opportunity to buy a complete and original system. Also comes with original operating manual and full set of flightcases, please note the keyboard flightcase has suffered major damage on one side and will need rebuilding. This machine is sold as is ,no returns and collection only from Bath in Somerset. I've had several of these systems so if you have any questions please ask.
