Scentury Cedar Custom Luthier Wood Eurorack Cases

This one in via Ryan Gaston: "I'm contacting you today because I wanted to make you aware of a new Eurorack case luthier--a small carpentry shop in Booneville, AR (the town in which I grew up). Several months ago, I confronted them about making me a Euro case for my own use--they've been making gorgeous boutique furniture for years and I absolutely loved their visual aesthetic. So I helped them learn about modular synths, showed them where to get vector rails and threaded inserts, power supplies, etc. so that they could make me a case. They decided that it was fun and new enough that they want to continue to make and distribute these cases.

I want to stress that this is not made from wood purchased at a hardware store--these come from trees that this company has harvested purely based on each tree's unique imperfections. These trees were born and grew in Arkansas and are crafted into these gorgeous cases completely by hand and with a tremendous degree of attention to detail.

I'm not commercially affiliated with the company--they're just good friends and trusted people who are trying to branch their business in a new and interesting direction. They wanted me to check in to see about spreading the word, so I thought I'd send you an E-mail in case you're interested in sharing the information.

For any inquiries, you can contact Kim from Scentury Cedar at:

Or I'm glad to relay any messages that you send to me here or to strawpolygon@gmail.com."

Flame Talking Synth with Dual Joysticks

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This is the ultra rare and very cool Flame MIDI Talking Synth from Germany.

Two Speakjet speech synthesis chips provide a stereo spread of robot voices plus beeps, alarms, noise and retro-style sci-fi sounds.

It can babble like a maniacal R2D2 robot or say dozens of pre programmed words like;

"bass, plastic, music, black hole, tekkno, mystery, sex, drugs and rock'n'roll!"

Using the 72 phonemes and allophones of the English language in it's memory it can be programmed to say any words you like.

You can hours and hours of fun with this. When hooked up to a sequencer this is a monster. You can modulate the sounds with the dual joysticks in real time and record over and over. If you are familiar with using Speak n Spells, this is the Ferrari with limitless control. You can save words and phrases you create and play them back with keyboards and sequencers via MIDI.

Also functions as a MIDI controller as all controls and joysticks send MIDI control/change data to the MIDI-OUT connector.

The synth comes with original box and manual. It is only missing one rubber foot dot on the bottom (see last pic) which does not affect it's performance at all. Works perfectly. Requires a standard 9-12V 500ma DC powersupply."

Yamaha V50 Demonstration - 4OP FM synthesis workstation with PCM drum samples

Published on Jul 31, 2014 renevanderwouden

"Demonstration of the songs made on the Yamaha V50 synthesizer workstation. This synth has the famous fm sound chip but this is an improved version of the TX81Z rack synth.

Imagine the excellent sonic characteristics of the DX11 synthesizer or TX-81Z sound module with an improved sound chip. The V50 is the ultimate 4-Operator FM synth workstation comprising 16-note polyphony, a dual effects processor (with distortion), a large dual line, backlit LCD display, a drum machine, a 16,000 note sequencer and a 3.5in floppy drive to save your songs and voices!

The DVA function and built in voice-based pitch delay are two interesting features in this synth. It's great for percussive sounds such as short bass sounds, marimbas, clavinets, etc and should one pitch an operator really high and work with the pitch bender, one gets very cool ambient effects. It's very rare yet cheap in today's 2nd-hand market and coupled with an outboard (analog) filter it makes an unbeatable digital FM synth!

This is a rare monster of a drum synth - Good luck ever seeing one of these guys again.
This UP K2-X sounds big, warm, punnchy and tough, works great and its built like a tank! All metal.
Used by Warp Records artists Plaid - in this link you can see it in their studio.
Have a listen to them to get a vibe of the sound of this.
8 trigger inputs
Individual outputs + stereo main outputs and headphone output
One special Bass drum channel
One special Snare channel
Six completely tuneable oscillator synth channels
All channels have these controls - Level, Pan, Trigger Sensitivity, Decay, Bite, Noise Filter, Noise + VCO mix, VCO pitch and VCO Sweep
All channels have Pulse button - Pulse generates an in temp trigger, good to get you tweaking right away
All channels have Preset Mode button - allows two different sound settings
Physical condition - As you can see in the photos some knobs are missing their caps and some caps are attached but need a little glue to keep them from spnning. There is one missing led light but everything functions and all knobs are clean. Marks and scratches visible in photos. Nothing major. Youll see some tape on the bottom also, you can just take that off though.

Audio condition - all good."

PITTSBURGH MODULAR ANNOUNCES THE CHAIN REACTOR LIMITED EDITION MODULE

via Pittsburgh Modular

"Our second limited edition module, the Chain Reactor is a quadraphonic voltage influenced chaotic waveform generator. The module is available now exclusively at pittsburghmodular.com. Production of the Chain Reactor was limited to 50 modules and once it is gone, it is gone.

The Chain Reactor combines two of our classic VILFO modules with two additional free running LFOs to create an endless supply of chaotic fluctuations. VILFO1 and VILFO2 feature our unique voltage influence control. Voltage influence works differently than standard voltage control, it allows the incoming CV to mingle with the LFO waveforms in interesting ways, creating unique modulations and patterns. The output of each VILFO is a voltage controlled variable waveform that shifts from a triangle to square wave.

The Voltage Influence Circuit
A typical Voltage controlled oscillator works by using a CV input to directly control the oscillation frequency. The more voltage sent to the CV input, the higher the frequency of the oscillator. The lower the voltage, the lower the frequency of the oscillator. Voltage Influence works by using the CV input to attenuate the frequency of the oscillator while at the same time injecting some of the voltage from influence CV input to the feedback loop of the oscillator. Results can vary from subtle to chaotic. Subtle results can be similar to tremolo, shuffle, or soft reset while more extreme settings produce glitchy, rhythmic, chaotic fluctuations in the frequency of the oscillator."

KOMA Elektronik Introduces Attenuator Cable for Eurorack and More

Introducing: KOMA ATTENUATOR CABLE Published on Jul 31, 2014 KOMA Elektronik

"The Attenuator Cable is a cable with one jack input socket on one side, an output socket on the other side and a slider in the middle that gives the user the opportunity to attenuate both CV and audio signals traveling between modules. You simply connect a 3,5mm patch cable to the input socket of the Attenuator Cable and connect the output jack plug to any input of your liking. You can use the slider in the middle of the cable to attenuate and adjust the signal, easy peasy!

The cable design has been optimized to function with any CV or audio signal and with all known and widely available 3,5mm jack cables.

More information and sales:
http://koma-elektronik.com/?product=k...

KOMA Elektronik offers free worldwide shipping for all preorders of 5 cables or more made from our website! All pre-orders ship on August 21st 2014."

And the press release:

"After releasing the modular Kabelhänger at Musikmesse earlier this year, Berlin-based instrument manufacturer KOMA Elektronik has now released a new innovative solution for modular synthesists: the Attenuator Cable.

The Attenuator Cable is a cable with one jack input socket on one side, an output socket on the other side and a slider in the middle that gives the user the opportunity to attenuate both CV and audio signals traveling between modules. You simply connect a 3,5mm patch cable to the input socket of the Attenuator Cable and connect the output jack plug to any input of your liking. You can use the slider in the middle of the cable to attenuate and adjust the signal, easy peasy!

At KOMA we always understood the importance of attenuation, this is why we implemented control voltage attenuators in all of our modular designs; it's useful to keep everything running the way it is supposed to and to match voltages for different modular platforms. The Attenuator Cable gives you dedicated control for every signal coming from or going to modules without input attenuators, which there are a lot of! Since it is not a module, but a cable, you don't waste any space in your case and you can use as many cables as you like in one setup. The cable design has been optimized to function with any CV or audio signal and with all known and widely available 3,5mm jack cables.

The Attenuator Cable is available for preorders from KOMA Elektronik's website and from KOMA dealers worldwide. KOMA Elektronik offers free shipping for all pre-orders of 5 cables or more from our website!

MRSP is 9 € per cable (Incl. EU VAT) and 39 € for a pack of five cables."

Pics of the inside below.

"The Sequential Circuits Drumtraks was the first drum machine that supported MIDI. (The Drumtraks can also send DIN sync and clock.) And while the drum pads were not velocity-sensitive, you can control it via a MIDI keyboard and trigger it with different velocities. While the kick sound is a bit thin, the 13 8-bit sounds can be pitch-shifted dramatically, adding some flexibility.

Two Patchblock Microsynth

via this auction

"Hello, this is the pretty amazing Patchblock synthesizer. It's a micro synth that you make modular style patches on your computer and load them to the unit. They can do lots of things like full polyphonic synthesizers, mono synths, or be used as effects units that include filters, bit crushers, delays, and several other things. Really neat new concept. The other thing is they can be connected and to create really complex modular setups.

Check out the website, it's patchblocks.com

Really cool units. I bought four of them to use as effects, extra voices, and filters for my OP-1. Would work great with volca's, OP-1's, and even the MS-20.

I have two colors for sale, one magenta and one white, these also have the blue LED's. Currently for sale as a pair. I realized I am just to busy with other projects to really explore the potential these guys have.

The software is free and in the beta stage, you can download it from the website and start making patches and the emulator will play your results.

Each block gas two knobs, two buttons, stereo audio in, stereo audio out, USB, and the four patchable connections between units. So they can be stereo audio and two digital controls. Really fun addition."

JEN SX-1000 Synthetone SN 06519 with Mods Demo

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"I followed mods from various sites on the net. especially Neil Johnson's page. (where he proves that it has a 24db filter NOT a 12db as everywhere else states)

I've also documented the installation of the mods on my blog page if you wish to have a read.

The mods completed are:

1. Better quality filter capacitors and for richer VCF sound.

2. Increased LFO speed to almost audible range, much faster than stock

3. Added circuit for Sawtooth up & down waveshapes to LFO as well as standard triangle. (small 3 position switch on fascia) - this affects the VCF LFO and also Vibrato for extra modulation possibilities

4. -1 Oscillator Square wave Sub Oscillator circuit (Noise off switch position engages circuit - noise level controls amount)

5. Equalize and boost White & Pink noise circuit

6. External Audio In (into VCF&VCA section via the Noise off switch postition)

7. Removed trailing power lead and fitted IEC power socket where old power switch was (standard 'kettle' cable) see pics

8. Fitted new power switch where old power cable was located. (see pics)

I have a demo on my Soundcloud account, it's a long one so if the basic waveforms and modulation bores you head for the meaty bottom end stuff to around the 10 minute mark onwards, It does sound even better 'in the flesh', especially the Pulse Width Modulation.
It's just showing a little bit of the modulation possibilities that you can't get from a standard SX1000.

I started with showing basic waveforms with Noise, then Sawtooth, Square, Pulse Width etc and finally the Resonance on it's own without the oscillator and modulated each with Cutoff/Res, LFO speed & shape, VCA LFO & Env Level and added the Sub Osc at various points.

It's not a 'playing' demo, just wibbly wibbly noises showing some of the possibilities, I didn't really use the VCA much on this, or the glide & vibrato but it should give you some idea of what it's capable of. No effects have been used"

"This auction is for the vintage music lover. For those of us like myself who hold true to the fact that plugins can never replace the beauty and nuance of original analog and digital equipment. You are looking at a vintage Emu EMAX Synthesizer and Digital Sampling Keyboard circa 1987. This keyboard is one of the most popular synthesizers of the late 80's. It got a 5 STAR rating on Vintage Synth Explorer and has been used by the likes of U2 to Depeche Mode to the Beastie Boys. This keyboard is in absolutely fantastic cosmetic condition as well as fully functional. There are no dead keys or buttons. The pitch bender, modulation and disk drive all work perfectly. As you can see in the pictures it powers on fine and loads sounds from disk. It has stereo outputs as well as 8 other outputs and an external sampler input. It has full MIDI I/O, World Clock I/O, 2 foot pedal inputs and another mod pedal input. This model is the original Emax but is upgradable to the SE version. I am including the following accessories:

- Power cord
- Original instruction manual
- SE instruction manual and upgrade stickers (for the keyboard faceplate)
- The original receipt from 1987 (tells a part of the history of this particular EMAX)
- The original Hybrid EMAX case
- A copy of the OS Rev 3.2 on floppy disk
- 4 sound disks from Northstar Productions (149 sounds total)
- I will also email a link where you can find all the original sound banks for the EMAX for downloading"
