Morton Subotnik's Buchla 300 at IRCAM, 1981

Click here for a post on Chroniques de la Mao. Sent my way via Peter Grenader of Plan b, ear, and Buzz-Click.

Update: Be sure to check out the comments. I was going to continue updating the post with them but figured I'd just call out to check them instead. With all posts it's a good idea to check out the comments for more info.

  4. Thanks Peter, I updated the post with that for those that don't check out the comments.

anonymous, regarding posting this already, you are right. I found the previous post here back on April of 2006. Different image but it went to the same post on Chroniques de la Mao.

With this new info I'm glad this went up.

  5. Octal means 8

  6. Programmable OCTAL signal source - 8 voice.

  7. the Octal Signal Source is 8 voices not VCOs..

to get technical it has in fact 24 wavetable Oscillators (1 Principal Osc, 1 Timber Mod Osc and 1 Freq Mod Osc per voice) with 8 dedicated extended function Lopass Gates and specialized output phase circuitry for mono, stereo quad or octal output.

  10. Sorry for my bad english. I am surprised by this sentence: "I' m not sour the system in this photo was actually Mort' S - possibly it was Ircam' S." A thing is sure, Morton Subotnick worked on this Buchla 300 during the summer 1981, date on which I followed the training course of Ircam. It is Morton Subotnick which presented Buchla to us. It used it with the 4C of Ircam (computer at real time) to compose "Ascent into air". I explain all that, with the bonds, in my blog the new Chronicles of the Mao: http://magelectrique.blogspot.com/ Just a question, is this a beginning of polemic?

  11. I explain all that, with the links (not the bonds), in my blog the new Chronicles of the Mao: http://magelectrique.blogspot.com/
The picture one was inserted corretement and I put a news of Morton Subtonick inserting the instructions for the 4C of Ircam.
Matrixsynth, I would like well that the explanation on my blog is developed, with a visible link by all. I find that the remark of Peter Grenader carries me damage on my credibility even my honesty.

  12. This is not appropriate to me. The evil was made. During several hours - to see the number of comments - was read by very many people. Peter Grenader commented on my photograph - what is its right - but while bringing erroneous comments. Not to know that Buchla 300 was used by Morton Subotnick to create with the 4C Computer in Ircam for "Ascent Into Air" is rather light for somebody who says specialist in Morton Subotnick. But it is not most important. What I dispute, it is the doubt thrown on my photograph. I made an answer, in English, on my blog, with links indicating that Buchla 300 formed part of the device of Morton Subotnick in Ircam. I thus ask, that this link be made available of all readers, and not only on the window of the comments. When there was damage - moral - it is necessary to know to recognize it and to rectify it. It is for me a question of principle.
    My answer is here :
