I believe this is the first post to mention the "Drum Machine Rhythm Dictionary" by Sandy Feldstein. Sandy also wrote this TR-606 book.

Accordign to the listing: :The 'Drum Machine Rhythm Dictionary' by Sandy Feldstein 1988, is a programming guide for many different styles of music including rock, jazz and latin. It includes the styles of the great drummers at the time like Phil Collins, Steve Gadd, Van Halen and more. It is written for the beat boxes of the time such as the Roland TR-707 and the TR-909. The notation given can be used on any current rhythm box, software or stand alone. The book has very faint minor pencil marks easily erased if you want to."

"'The Synthesizer' copywrite Roland Corp.1979, is a complete course on how to program analog synthesizers. Even though this is analog the concepts are the same in the digital world. There is a lot of good information here. It goes from the very basics of electronic synthesis to how to create different sounds such as percussion and strings."

You can find electronic copies of Roland The Synthesizer here.
