"Selling an Access Virus C keyboard version (KC) in simply beautiful condition. Almost gutted to let this one go, but it’s not getting much use and I should be responsible and let it go to a new home where it will be loved. Cosmetically I’d give it a 9.5/10 - it’s in truly remarkable shape overall. The synth is functionally perfect. Updated to the latest and final OS version 6.5. All knobs and pots still have a nice feeling and sturdy resistance to them. The Fatar keybed is a dream, with delicate and sophisticated velocity and aftertouch response. This is one of the best ever master controllers. And of course, there’s the legendary Virus sound that holds its own to this day.

Some very nice extras include:

- Factory original owner’s manual.

- A very rare book on “Programming Analogue Synths.” Features in depth yet highly accessible techniques on synth programming, along with fantastic writing on synth history and insightful facts touching on Moog, EMS Synthi, Arp, TB-303, etc. and demonstrating how to emulate all such classics.

- 4GB flash drive filled with a massive 500 MB folder of Access Virus soundbanks, including dozens of paid for third party banks including those from UXS sounds (conservatively over a $500 value in itself).

In addition, the board has undergone some very essential servicing including:

- 5V voltage regulator issue that is common with this model has been resolved via a replacement with a new and more reliable voltage regulator.

- Modwheel issue where values skip and jump also common with Viruses has been cleaned and resolved. 0-127 values now reliable and good to go for 10+ years.

- All of the electrolytic capacitors have been replaced with high grade audio capacitors and the synth sounds as good as brand new.

Some useful info regarding caps:

Factory capacitors age with time, and after 10 years, the synth can sound more dull and noisy. The new caps restore the synth to like new glory with no noise or hiss in the sound, and no sag in the power supply voltage which affects the attack of the sound. Such recapping is a standard procedure with high end audio gear such as the Access Virus.

In a nutshell, this is one of the best Virus KCs and package you’ll ever find. It’s often (subjectively) argued that the C model is the greatest out of the Virus line as it retained the darker tone of its predecessors with 18-bit DACs before the pristine hifi sound of the Ti line’s 24-bit DACs, while still being deeper and more feature rich than the A or the B models."

Are capacitors really an issue for relatively newer digital synths?
