Today I'm auditioning my original patches made for the Kawai K1m. A very limited digital synth from the 90s. And yet after digging into the architecture was able to harness some very powerful and unique features that are really, I mean, REALLY surprising. You'll hear some cheesy things, some pads, basses. And then there's fat poly action, swirling digital synth soundscapes. And alive motion things that are frankly astounding for such an unassuming little black box. Try to keep in mind when you hear the Mesmerized patch - the K1m has no sequencer nor arpeggiator. No freely assignable LFOs, just a fixed vibrato and that's it. And NO filter ha! Introducing auras:polyscape, the first in a new series of free instrument releases exploring the deep and cinematic sounds of the Polybrute 12 sourced from my custom patches and recorded through analog tube preamps to capture the glorious and imperfect nature of analog synthesis all wrapped up for the free Decent Sampler platform.

Featuring a brand-new UI design and editor, polyscape brings the expressive nature of these custom patches featuring 'motion recording' to life with new dynamics and expression controls (bound to CC1 and CC11, respectively) a re-designed velocity response mode toggle for more organic and realistic velocity performance, custom IR's captured directly from the Polybrute 12, and a hand selected A-B layer system that can be set or automated to explore the morphing and organic nature of each sound to bring every performance to life.

All for the low, low price of $0 and in a highly optimized format to offer big sounds in a little package.

1st Seqtrak + Minilab Jam

"In my quest for an even smaller, more portable DAWless setup, I picked up the Yamaha Seqtrak and Arturia Minilab 3 last week. With only a few days working with both pieces, I was pleased with what I was able to come up with. The Seqtrak by itself is usable, and the companion app is very handy, but pairing it with the Minilab 3 makes live performances a possibility I'd say. Part of putting this together was so I could travel and still make music, and potentially jam with other people, like at Knobcon coming up. I'm pretty encourages so far, and I think I'll get quicker with everything once I really learn the Seqtrak. Audio is directly off the Seqtrak, with mild brick wall limiter for YouTube... Enjoy!"

"The MFX Pedal from ALM Busy Circuits is a standalone version of the MFX Eurorack multi-effects module, and it’s designed to work with guitars as well as line-level sources. I’m definitely not a guitarist, but I do have a few synths and drum machines in my studio, so for this video I thought it might be fun to try putting them through it. I don’t go through all 18 programs or demonstrate every parameter, but I pick six of my favourite effects and offer some real-world examples that hopefully show off some of its range.
