"These FLAME Modules were announced at Superbooth 2023! Some of my favorite finds. We'll spend some time exploring them. This will probably be a small series because there are a few others that really jumped out for me as well.

Module Description:
'FIRE' is a full blown 8 track drum & percussion synth, also capable of much more than just drums.

'TAKT' is a compact 30HP Eurorack sequencer module for playing or programming trigger/gate/velocity rhythm sequences."

Superbooth 2023: Flame - Fire Drum Machine

"We spoke to Felix from Flame about their new eight-channel drum synthesizer, Fire. The drum machine currently has nine algorithms, and while it is virtual analog, it offers an extensive range of parameters that allow for manipulation of click level, click envelopes, transient samples, and resonance, among other features. It also offers a unique advantage of not having a fixed structure and allowing for eight bass drums, for example, and you can morph parameters for happy accidents. Fire has a global user CV, and a total of eight audio outs. It can be controlled via sensors, LFOs, foot pedals, and MIDI.

Flame's new sequencer, Takt, can be used in combination with Fire via MIDI, freeing up the gate trigger outs and CV outs. Fire can be used with triggers and MIDI concurrently, if you enjoy things getting messy.

"A stereo pling plong synth jam with Gotharman's Urano modular synthesizer and its Eurorack expansion: 4MS POD Case with Erica Synths Bassline, Flame Joystick and Synthrotek MIXIV. Pling Plong sounds, percussion samples, sequencing and FX from Urano. The Joystick modulates morphing and stereo position of the plings and plongs. Erica's Bassline is another simple voice fed into the audio input of the Urano. Happy Sunday, everyone!"

Eurorack CV Modulation Recorders

"Headphones on, please. This vid leverages the stereo image as part of the demo.

Modulation recorders are handy for coordinating modulation moves with a melodic or rhythmic sequence. You could also use a full sequencer, but in many cases that's overkill. These modules do the trick without too much complexity. (Though it must be acknowledged that the Voltage Block does market itself as a sequencer of sorts.)

These four all offer at least 3 channels of cv recording. Some are limited by steps in the sequence, some by memory. Also note that the level of quantization (simplifying the smooth recorded curve into something more stairstepped) varies from module to module. Lastly, note that they output different voltage ranges, which in some cases can be customized.

All work well for their assigned purpose, no duds here.

Source audio: Dixie II+, using an Morgasmatron as the target of modulation. I added a pulse from a second Dixie II+ to give me some rhythm to move along with. Modulation with no rhythm to it sounds a bit uninteresting in this context.

"Curves is an analog filter bank with twelve bands. Thanks to a built-in pattern generator, the channels can be played rhythmically. – Including variations. The module features a variety of sequences. You can create your own patterns using a free software editor (Windows / OSX). The module holds up to 99 patterns. Clock and reset inputs are available for synchronization with other modular equipment plus there is a MIDI connector. While the sequencer is deactivated, you can choose between several filter types. – A feature that makes Curves even more versatile."

A New Ember: Flame 4VOX Polyphonic Wavetable Oscillator

"The 4Vox is a quad wavetable oscillator with up to four voices per VCO channel, resulting in a maximum of 16 voices at four individual outputs.

This is a weird one. I sold it after having it for about a week after buying it new. It's a really interesting oscillator but I found it pretty unwieldy to use. YMMV!"

Flame - Chord Machine 2

"Flame’s Chord Machine 2 comes equipped with a chord generator, an arpeggiator and a quantizer. The module generates tuned CV signals for up to five voices. You even don’t necessarily need an incoming CV to generate these output signals. You define a chord and an arpeggio based on internal note and tuning settings, these settings can be saved in lists that function as song lists or chord progressions, depending on how you use them. The arpeggiator output can alternatively be used as a very flexible quantizer. For a quantizer and chord generator module of this size it has a lot to offer. All in all, the module is very powerful, which also makes it complex – but it is worth taking the time exploring it!

The voices generated by the Chord Machine 2 can be spread over a range of eight octaves. 42 presets plus 16 user chords with up to four voices are available for musical experiments. Additionally, it is possible to choose between first, second and third inversion. All in all, musicians get access to 232 chords, which are playable within 54 preset and 15 user scales. Transpositions can be done via a CV input. The arpeggiator can run in several directions. The octave range is variable as well. Program and arpeggiator parameters are not only editable by hand, but can be modulated via a CV input as well. For synchronizing the module to other equipment, there is a clock input."

"The Benjolin is modulated by the Klangbau Köln Eurorack Joystick CV Processor. Its mono audio is routed through the Flame Mäander’s sequenced filter bank, turning the sounds into a stereo signal, by panning certain filter bands hard to the L and R channels. At the end of the chain sits the Mooer Ocean Machine ambient guitar pedal with two stereo delays, a lush reverb and a live audio looper. It’s a fun noise and drone music doodle :)"

"Today I have a small demo of the Curves 12 Band Filter Bank & seqencer from Flame instruments and modules like Lifeforms Primary Oscillator, Lifeforms Micro Sequence and Lifeforms Mod tools from Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizers .😀

For this I used Time Wizard from Shakmat Modular , X-4 from Flame as VCA and Dual LFO from nakedboards .
As a delay I added the guitar effect Red Repeat from Carl Martin .

The whole voice is basically from Pittsburgh ,so Sine wave and Timbre out added to INA and INB in ​​Mod tools.
it was used as a mixer 😀, filter sound and fun with LFO when in the Curves filter for a given band I added LFO , and various gates from Time Wizard module , so the sound is moving all the time,

In curves I only used the ODD input and ODD output but you can also use EVEN or ALL and each band its own VCA and also the Audio OUT.🔥😍

it's best to watch the video yourself and take a look at the pages of these modules and check out the cool ECHO modeled on the Vintage sound from the 1950s. 🔥🔥👌

for me, these are great modules and a nice delay effect that I often use in new music recently

Flame 4VOX- Overview wavetables and menu

"Hello Guys.
I have a small overview of one of the 4 wavetable oscillators and the menu in the 4Vox-Quad Polyphonic Wavetbale VCO module from Flame instruments
it's basically an introduction to a further series but you can see how you have 4 voices in one VCO and many wavetables for one voice.
this is a total of x4 wavetables and times 4 Vcos .. that gives you 16 voices polyphony.
this module has some nice functions like octave management, morphing between scales, octaves and wavetables.
two knobs, which can be freely selected pot 1 and 2 for .detune, morphing, amplitube move, chord semitone, portamento etc.
both CVs can also be assigned to morphing wavetebles ,scales , octaves etc from 0 ... to 5v, = / - 2.5v or = / - 5v
for this there are many more functions, but here you have access to the menu"
