Herbs and Stones - Arms

video upload by Herbs and Stones

"Arms is a digital dual percussion module in eurorack format"

via Herbs and Stones

Arms is a two voice digital percussion module.
It is based around a combination of FM synthesis and ring modulation.

Each voice has CV control over decay length, FM mod range, FM mod decay and the frequency of the ring modulator oscillator.
The two identical voices are designed to synthesize a wide range of drum and percussion sounds, from hi hats to harsh snares and low frequency tom toms.

Each CV input accepts 0-5V signals and is protected from voltages above and under the expected CV range.

Length: sets the duration of the percussion sound
Mod range: sets the amount of FM modulation
Mod decay: sets the length of the modulation
Rm freq: sets the frequency of the ring modulation stage oscillator
Trig A: gate/trigger input for voice A
Trig B: gate/trigger input for voice B

width: 12hp
maximum depth: 22mm
Panel material: aluminum
power consumption: +12V 12mA, -12V 8mA

ST Modular - KRAKONG (Duophonic Semi-Modular Sonic Voyager)

video uploads by Stefan Tretau

"KRAKONG is a duophonic generative synthesizer with a sequencer per voice, FM crossover modulation, an additional random modulation sequencer, one multimode filter with VCA, a buffered multiple and a resettable LFO. The design includes a collection of manual controls and connections for patching and CV control.

Each of the unit's two voices consists of a triangle and a square wave oscillator, a shift register sequencer, a decay envelope generator and a filter-based gate. In addition to the two synthesizer voices, which can be manually distributed in the stereo field, a third ring-modulated output of the two voices can be mixed to the main output. The tempo of all sequencers is determined by a clock generator, which can be controlled internally or synchronised externally to any voltage (audio and CV).

This musical instrument has a complete structure that allows for a wide range of sonic possibilities, from rhythmic drum patterns and tamed sonic chaos to textural and rough synth-sounds. The essence of this unit lies in the exploration of the interplay between the elements of the synthesiser, using the three sequencers and filters, manual controls and modulation patch points."

SUPERBOOTH 2024: Instruo - Dail Quantizer

video upload by sonicstate

"At Superbooth 2024, Jason from Instruo introduced their latest innovative product - the Dail Quantizer*. In a conversation with Sonic State, Jason explained that the *Dail Quantizer has been in the works for a while, with initial designs dating back to 2020. Due to the chip shortage, the product had to undergo a complete redesign, but the functionality has been well thought out over the years. The Dail Quantizer serves as a monophonic quantizer, precision adder, and MIDI-to-CV interface, providing a versatile solution for musicians looking to enhance their sound and performance.

The Dail Quantizer features three pages controlled by a toggle switch, allowing users to easily navigate between quantizer, precision adder, and scale programming modes. With the ability to set different scales, from major triads to pentatonic scales, users can customize their sound with ease. Additionally, the Dail Quantizer offers multi-octave spanning quantization, allowing for complex spread voice patterns and modulation of quantized signals.

Dail Quantizer Price: 289 GBP"

The Instruō dàil is a high resolution quantiser, precision adder, MIDI-to-CV interface, and USB MIDI Host with a very small form factor suitable for any system.

As a quantiser, scales can be defined locally as well as externally via MIDI. The USB Host port will accept and power class compliant devices offering convenience and immediacy to melodies and sequences.

As a precision adder, existing signals can be offset by any defined chromatic interval. Transpose anything with accuracy using the calibrated buffered throughput which runs parallel to the quantiser engine. This feature alone makes for a great companion to any sequencer or 1V/octave source within a system.

No longer is a single repeating octave of quantised notes a limitation. dàil features a fully bipolar quantiser engine through which any multi-octave spanning scale/chord/arpeggio can be engaged immediately from your MIDI keyboard. Patterns can also be programmed onboard with precision with the ability to auto fill from a wide range of major and minor starting points.

Small form factor, big feature set!

dàil will suit any scale of system adding flexibility and immediacy to your melodic needs.

The Scorpion Tail from Zerosum Inertia

video upload by NOISEBUG

"The Scorpion Tail from Zerosum Inertia is absolutely radical!

Check it out and then go to
For ordering info"

The Scorpion Tail 5U synthesizer module for dotcom systems is an audio signal processor designed to amplify, distort and create new waveshapes by processing audio through a 19EZ8 triple triode and A1B neon lamp.

The signal flow of the module is 3 gain stages in series fed into the neon lamp.
The audio result sounds like 3 waveshapers in series with the neon lamp as a fourth waveshaper or as a resonator/oscillator that tracks to incoming audio.
When the neon knob is at maximum setting clockwise it oscillates.
When neon knob is turned counter clockwise more distortion and waveshaping and lower frequency audio manipulation happens.
When gain stage knobs are full clockwise this creates a very crisp, clean and low noise loud amplifier.
When gain stage knobs are turned opposite of eachother and counter clockwise this creates oscillations and wavemangling distortion.

CV is handled by an SR3 vactrol for slewy slappy liquidy modulation behavior of the waveshapers instability.

It is recommended to start with all knobs full clockwise/about 5 o’clock position and then work the knobs backwards slowly while observing the sounds.

The sweet spot for the offset knob is about 2-3 o’clock when no CV is applied.
Then full counter clockwise when CV is applied.
When no CV is applied the offset knob manually sweeps the instability of the 3 waveshaper gain stages.
When CV is applied the offset adjusts the response of the incoming CV.
Work that offset knob when applying CV.
The most interesting and bizarre mangled sounds come when the first gain stage is barely letting audio through.
The loudest and less scrambled sounds are found when all gain stage knobs are full clockwise and offset is about 2-3 o’clock.

There are so many hidden sounds in this module you will have to record them before they disappear and warp into a new sound.
The intended use of this module is to process audio waveforms from an oscillator.
There is a lot of gain so you will most likely want to place this in the middle of the chain with a voltage controlled attenuator at the end of the chain to control final volume and dynamics.

Very interesting results are found when also processing synthetic percussion and rhythmic beats and sequences.
