And more about sound
AND MORE
[PRESET WAVE AND FLASH MEMORY UPGRADE] MONTAGE M offers twice the memory over its predecessor with an increase from 5.67GB to 9.97GB of Preset Wave memory, and an increase from 1.75 to 3.8GB of User flash memory. Plus, you’ll find a host of new sounds and instruments, including pianos, orchestral instruments, drums, and more!

[FM-X] MONTAGE M rekindles the Yamaha legacy of expressive and dynamic FM Synthesis with its 8-operator FM-X engine, offering a wide variety of diverse tones: from crisp and bell-like, to edgy and aggressive, to mellow and evolving. This is an excellent complement to the AWM2 and AN-X engines.

[VCM ROTARY AND DRAWBAR BEHAVIOR] Using sophisticated modeling technology, the VCM Rotary Speaker effect simulates the rich and enveloping motion of a classic rotary speaker cabinet. Plus, the new organ drawbar fader setting simulates the vintage “pull out” drawbar organ behavior.

[16 LIBRARY LOCATIONS] With 16 Library slots at your disposal, you can house up to 10,240 additional Performances (that’s in addition to the over 2,700 performances in the presets), facilitating quick searches by Category, Name and Attributes.

[PURE ANALOG CIRCUIT 2] The upgraded Pure Analog Circuit included in MONTAGE M reduces noise and improves the dynamic range, crosstalk, low-frequency phase, and distortion rate, resulting in clearer sound at all volumes. You’ll also find the sound has more detailed low-mids and presence.

GEX ACTION WITH POLYPHONIC AFTERTOUCH (MONTAGE M8x ONLY)
Available exclusively on MONTAGE M8x, GEX Action elevates your performance and sound creation with Polyphonic Aftertouch – a revered synth control found in the legendary CS-80 and DX1. Polyphonic Aftertouch allows you to individual modulate held notes with pressure. GEX also provides key repetition behavior typically found in grand pianos.

NEW PERFORMANCE CONTROLS
MONTAGE M introduces new performance controls: a 5-segment ribbon controller with dedicated HOLD button, a new KEYBOARD HOLD button for sustaining chords while using knobs to edit, and a Portamento on/off button and dedicated Portamento time knob.

Yamaha EX5 Demos by Snupps

videos upload by Snupps Synth channel

Use the player controls to skip through videos.

1.
A demo of a effect sound i made, Under the Name The Abyss, its a strange sound. And only the EX5 can achieve this type of sounds, I used no external FX for this and there is almost no layered tracks, mostly one continous recorded track. I used the AWM/FDSP engine for this, Cheers!
Yamaha EX5 Demo The Abyss 2. Public Transport (Yamaha EX5 Demo)
A ambient track, where i mostly use my Yamaha EX5, and most specifically a sound i made under the name Transporter, which kinda sounds like a bowed string instrument, where i used the FDSP synth engine. I also used my Korg M50 and Kawai K5000s for some more layered sounds. All the sounds were made by me.

video upload by Canned Sound

"A presentation of this modified vintage keyboard demonstrating the use of the multi-timbral manual vector controller joystick in conjunction with the custom 30-point patch bay. This turns the unit into a generator of noise, bizarre soundscapes, a range of lo-fi ambient, aliasing, glitching and unison pads, corrupted rhythms and percussion."

via Canned Sound's Reverb Shop

"The Yamaha PSS 795 is a rare 1990 49-key digital keyboard which implements Advanced Wave Memory synthesis- the use of real world instrument and voice samples which are looped and/or blended with digitally generated sound. Four of the unit's onboard presets can be assigned to the vector controller- a joystick which allows the user to morph between each of these sounds. With the addition of the custom built 30-point patch bay, this adds up to one of the most remarkable, enigmatic and useful modified instruments Canned Sound has to offer. This feature unlocks an endless array of other-worldly soundscapes, bizarre loops, weird sample hybrids, drones, warped digital distortion, garbled and staccato FM sounds, ethereal effects, powerful unison patches, strange percussion hits and grinding bass tones. The unit also features a switch which triggers completely random streams of noise, sequences, effects and tones- another great option for sampling.

When utilising the patch matrix, each configuration of the five included stackable patch cables produces an often multitimbral range of sounds across the keyboard. The percussion pads and onboard rhythms are also affected. The capacity for the generation of unusual pads, noise and percussive hits is immense; this modified PSS 795 is a source of distinctly different sounds which any alternatively minded electronic producer will find inspiring. Demo to follow.

Specs:
61 mini keys.
ROM: 100 sounds, 50 rhythms.
8 percussion pads (46 percussion sounds + voiced numbers 1 - 4 are assignable to each).
4 patch vector controller (a user created movement sequence is writable in the 8 track sequencer).
Pitch bend wheel.
MIDI: In, Out, Thru.
Twin 3 watt speakers + headphone/AUX out.
Dimensions: 776 mm x 302 mm x 141 mm.
Weight: 4.5 kg."

YAMAHA SY77 - Synth Demo | Sounds, Patches & Presets

video upload by synth4ever

"Yamaha SY77 FM and AWM synthesizer demo featuring various, sounds patches and presets. The SY77 was a flagship Yamaha FM & AWM2 synth released in 1989. In this Yamaha SY77 synth demo I showcase pads, plucks, ambient soundscapes, strings, motion loops and more.

The Yamaha SY77 has 32-voices of polyphony (16 FM, 16 AWM) and features 6-operator AFM synthesis. This provides 45 algorithms, 3 feedback loops and 16 waveforms, and 16-bit AWM2 sample ROM waveforms which can all be used in various ways to craft layered and complex sounds.

The Yamaha SY77 also has multi-stage Time Variant Filters (lowpass, highpass, multi-pole) with resonance, LFO (sine, saw, triangle and sample & hold), 16-track sequencer (16K note capacity), 61 drum sounds, 16-part multi-timbrality, 4 independent digital effects (2 reverb units w/ 40 effect types & 2 modulation units), as well as a 61-key velocity sensitive keyboard with aftertouch. The SY77 can store up to 128 preset & 64 user patches, 16 preset & 16 user multi-patches. There is also a rack-mount version released in 1990, the Yamaha TG77.

The Yamaha SY77 brings the best of 6-operator FM synthesis and blends it with AWM2 samples to provide new sound design possibilities beyond traditional FM. The combination of these two methods was marketed as Realtime Convolution and Modulation Synthesis (RCM) and enables sounds not possible on a DX7 or DX7 II.

Some advantages of the SY77 include: 5 additional waves besides the standard sine; 45 algorithms (vs 32 on DX7); flexible routing of up to three feedback sources within any algorithm, ability to design custom-routed algorithm via MIDI; routing of FM signal through a configurable filter; and of course layering and manipulation of AWM2 PCM samples with the FM synthesis.

The Yamaha SY77 is still an exceptionally powerful FM synthesizer and can be found for good prices on the 2nd hand market. Build quality is also quite substantial. If you have the opportunity to acquire one and want to go beyond traditional FM and DX7 sounds, the Yamaha SY77, TG77, or even the SY99 are great options. Hope you enjoy this Yamaha SY77 synth demo."

Yamaha SY35 FM/AWM Synthesizer - Part 3 - Programming

video upload by Runningonair

Yamaha SY35 FM/AWM Synthesizer Runningonair posts

"In this video I get into the programming and try to come with a few decent sounds.

I also created an accompanying track, which just uses sounds from the SY35 (plus a vocal sample). The majority of effects are from the SY35 too. I have added compression and EQ, as well as doing a basic mastering job.

Let me know what you think of the synth in comments. I've been pleasantly surprised by it!"

Best Ambient Synth Shootout #120: Alesis Fusion 8HD - Song 3

video upload by Christian's Sonic Spaces

"This is the third song with the Alesis Fusion 8HD. It's a synthesizer workstation (up to 190 voices per engine, 16 parts multitimbral) that offers several different synthesis types: AWM (sample playback), FM (freely configurable 6-operators engine), Virtual Analog (VA) and Physical Modeling (Wind and Reed models). There are three oscillators per voice that can be any of the above mentioned synthesis types and 20 different filter types including low-pass, band-pass, high-pass and a 4-band EQ for every patch.

I used for the recording the following FX chain:
Fusion 8HD - Elektron Analog Heat - Pigtronix Echolution 2 Deluxe - GFI System Specular Reverb 2. Depending on the recorded track some FX are deactivated

The signal went through a Presonus StudioLive 16.0.2 into the PC via USB for recording. To create the complete song I recorded consecutively several stereo tracks. The final song was then mastered with a bit EQ and compression on some tracks and some limiting on the master track."

VSL Eurorack analog modular synth demo JAWS theme wavefolder AWM-3, env gen D-ENV, filter VCF-74

Vintage Synthlab

"JAWS theme on Eurorack modular synth.

Here we have an AWM-3 wavefolding, while a D-ENV drives the front end (input) of the AWM-3 first stage to created dynamic wave folding (as opposed to static wavefold). Each stage has modulation injected to it's bias / threshold / offset CV input, allowing for a big, chorus-like sound.
The VCF-74 mk2 is our LP filter also being driven by independent D-ENV for both filter cutoff and VCA. The VCO-81 is our synth voice--being driven by the Beatstep Pro Sequencer #2 (yellow)."

Vintage Synth Lab Eurorack Demo - Depeche Mode - To Have and To Hold

Vintage Synthlab

"Short demo of VSL Eurorack modules playing To Have and To Hold by Depeche Mode. Wavefolding is dynamic, driven by the D-ENV (delayed env gen module) VCA feeding the AWM-3 (wave folding mixer module), in triple-wave fold configuration.

Next we see three modulation sources, all injected into the three independent wave-fold stage bias or threshold (CV input). This creates a HUGE chorus sound. Think of it as the PWM for non-rectangular waveforms (sine, tri, ramp, saw).

And the use of our VCF-74 (analog filter) with additional D-ENV modules, creates the widest array possible for analog synthesis texture, dynamics, and overall character."

Vintage Synth Lab Eurorack AWM-3 Halloween 2020

Vintage Synthlab

"Wishing everyone a safe, healthy, happy, and creative Halloween!

The AWM-3 is a 3 channel mixer, with additional features such as wave folding/shaping (for both independent positive and negative folding), per channel.

Channels can be chained together to create multi-folding, up to triple wave folding. A compressor allows for dynamic signals (VCA driven) to fine tune a wide array of new sonic character.

Bias is adjustable (threshold for wavefold action), as well as a level trim (6 total) for each channel's positive and negative bias modulation via the additional CV inputs.

Each channel also has a buffered output.

And last, master mix, and three matrix mix combo outputs are always accessible."

VCO-81 percussion / tom drum synthesis demo 20160625

Published on Jun 26, 2019 Vintage Synthlab

"Two VCO-81s, utilized as the main body voicing of the percussion sound (tom drums in this case). A modulation and equal tracking of exp FM is applied via a D-ENV env gen. One of the VCO-81s is also receiving a slight Lin FM of ~2 Hz..

AWM-3 used as attenuators / gain for CV routing to VCF-74's LP filter cutoff (of white noise portion of drum sound) to allow for custom spread, aka 'keyboard tracking' mixed with a D-ENV env gen.

A huge percussive sound can be synthesized and shaped in a very wide variety of drum sounds, metallic, organic, wood, small to large."
