"Crooked Teeth" Cover ♬ Death Cab for Cutie on Gotharman's Little deFormer 3 #TTNM
video upload by THE TUESDAY NIGHT MACHINES
"Here's another Gotharman's Little deFormer 3 groovebox song-mode thing. A weird synth cover of Death Cab for Cutie's 'Crooked Teeth'. Some liberties were taken ;-P
All sounds created and sequenced on the LD3. Voice recorded separately and mixed and processed on a Zoom R16."
Fell in Love with a Girl / The White Stripes / Covered with Gotharman's Little deFormer 3 #TTNM
"Gotharman's Little deFormer 3 synthesizer covers The White Stripe's 'Fell in Love with a Girl'. This has been a favorite song of mine, ever since I learned power chords on my Squier electric guitar. I'm way past that though and just let synths play for me nowadays. Well ... after I program those songs manually into their memory for hours on end ... although with the Little deFormer 3's "song mode" it's actually fun and even a zen-like experience ;-P
All sounds made on the LD3. Voice sampled and sequenced and then deFormed with onboard FX."

1983 Linn LinnDrum LM2 w/ Original Box
Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction
Pic of the inside below.

"This was bought brand-new in August of 1983 and acquired from the original owner. It is as close to a time-capsule piece as I’ve ever seen and I’ve had 10 LinnDrum’s in the last 3 1/2 years alone. There are just a few very fine marks on the face (the small flecks in the 2nd photo are just dust) that keep it from truly being ‘mint’ which is pretty wild because the original owner actually used it. These were $2,700 back in 1983, which is over $8,000 in today’s dollars, so it’s not surprising someone took great care of it. It has been meticulously restored and is functioning as well or better than it ever did even back when it was brand-new! The circuit is unmodified to retain it’s original spec and for the fact it is so well-preserved. Another huge bonus is the individual tuning pots for the voices actually function properly and sweep with consistence. A vast majority of these machines have some degree of instability in the tuning pots due to age (DeOxit does not normally fix this issue). Not this one, though. A true collector‘s piece and one you can actually use consistently.
- Full electrolytic recap
- Auxiliary board cleaned and refurbished with battery holder and new rechargeable batteries
- All buttons cleaned and rebuilt
- All 32 faders removed, disassembled, cleaned (and repaired where necessary), lubricated, greased, and rebuilt
- ZIF quick-release sockets added to 7 voices (bass, snare, congas (x2), toms (x2), and clap)
- Factory presets reloaded
This classic piece is essentially ubiquitous with popular music starting from the day it was released. Nearly every major label recording artist and/or band used one of these somewhat extensively (that had hits, anyway). Part of that is due to Roger Linn & Co. dishing them out like tic-tacs in order to promote the machine, but that’s beside the point. The fact of the matter is this machine is all over so many songs, it would be nearly impossible to catalog them all. It’s a who’s who list of household name because it clearly made the impression they’d hoped. And the best part about it is it’s as relevant to today’s scene as it was back then. You can even swap in sounds from your other favorite drum machines to create a truly versatile, desert island instrument!
Most of these are banged up, corroded from battery acid leakage, modified poorly, unrestored, or all of the above. This is the nicest, most-complete LinnDrum available anywhere in the world. Includes original box, sales receipt, user manual, promotional paperwork, and cassette with pre-sets."

A QUICK TEST : SOLTON DISCO 64
video upload by Vintage Audio Institute Italia
"Before the Solton Programmer 24 - the by now fairly well-known Italo Disco machine - there was the Solton Disco 64.
After picking up this beautiful and mega rare species in Perugia not too long ago I filmed the first 10 minutes of trying it out and reacquainting myself with its perks.
I needed to touch up on how these work - which maybe isn’t as straight forward as it should be.
I already have another unit here but haven’t used it in a long time since it started emitting smoke a few years back. The machine has some minor scratchy pots but is otherwise working fairly well - every time something we buy isn't completely dead is kind of a miracle.
The Wah chord sound doesn’t sound right so that will be taken care of - it's in the shop for a check-up and a re-cap of the power supply and a few other minor interventions as we speak.
This is a nice, heavy chunk of a machine (main unit Is 16 kilos) in a brown faux leather suitcase with saloon style wood details, this is not really a disco machine per se - quite a few machines featured Disco in their names for no other reason than the hype and coolness of the genre at the time.
But this is a unique auto-accompaniment beast none the less - with a great sounding analog string machine, an analog, monophonic bass synth with filters, different chord sounds and of course a drum machine with individual sound mute options.
You can play the string machine and bass synth alone and independently from the auto comp section."

Roland VP-330 MKI Vocoder Plus
Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction
"The Roland VP-330 is a paraphonic ten-band vocoder and string machine manufactured by Roland Corporation from 1979 to 1980. While there are several string machines and vocoders, a single device combining the two is rare, despite the advantage of paraphonic vocoding, and the VP-330's synthetic choir sounds are unique. Despite the VP-330's electronic string and choir sounds being less realistic than those of the tape-based Mellotron, touring musicians used it as a lighter and more robust alternative.
One of the coolest instruments out there. The vocoder shapes its envelope and filters by any sound source fed into it, your voice or even a drum loop can be used which is then applied to another sound source, typically a synth pad. This creates a very unique and famous robot-like sound.
Aside from the 10-band vocoder, the VP-330 added a string synth section, choir and a human-voice sound, both of which are quite excellent themselves. Its 3 sound sections offer a few different presets that can be slightly edited with de-tuning and vibrato. The VP-330 is one of the best Vocoder synths ever."

Viper Synths Robotron MIDI Controller
video upload by Viper Synths
"Watch a presentation of the new Robotron MIDI Controller. A powerful new tool for music producers, giving them the feel of vintage analog synthesizers, with the freedom and flexibility of digital technology and software."
Playlist:
Robotron MIDI Controller Teaser
Robotron MIDI Controller Demo
Taho Live using 2 Robotrons!
5 min track challenge with Robotron, Launchpad mini and Touchable Pro

via https://vipersynths.com.
Note the Robotron is available with Moog or Sequential style knobs.
ROBOTRON is a MIDI controller that looks and feel like an analog synthesizer! It is hand made in France, with the highest quality material, it's very robust and durable, like the vintage machines that made history. Robotron has 26 potentiometers and 6 momentary switches. They are all assignable to any CC you desire. By default the layout of ROBOTRON gives you the essential commands of pretty much every synths that exist.
Robotron comes with a Max for Live plugin that allows you to map your virtual synths on the fly and save the mappings once and for all. You can download it here. A VST version of the plugin is coming in 2024.
Robotron has 9 sections. Oscillators, mixer, filter, 2 enveloppes, a volume, LFO, a MIDI channel selector and the free to assign knobs. Every knobs and buttons are assignable.
It works on all DAWs.
With its 16 MIDI channel selection directly available on its panel, you can quickly switch from one instrument to another, without touching your DAW. You can also control all your hardware synths using the MIDI OUT of your computer.
For those who work without no computer, a very small USB to MIDI DIN converter is coming in 2024 and will be included with Robotron at no extra charge. When you order now you'll receive your converter as soon as it's available.
The assign section has 6 aluminium knobs, the same found on Sequential Circuit synthesizers. The other knobs are made of Bakelite, an extremely solid plastic invented by Leo Baekeland in 1907. Bakelite can resist extreme temperatures and chemicals. Those knobs are the same found on Moog synths.
The top panel is made of anodised aluminium with a beautiful brushing effect to it. The wood sides are made of exotic Sapelli, often used on boats for its robustness and beautiful look. It is particularly prized for its lustrous iridescence. It is also used in the manufacture of furniture, luxury flooring, and musical instruments.

Dewanatron machines and the Swarmatron
video upload by Robotussin Vintage Synths
"Here's the Swarmatron and its creators Brian and Leon Dewan, talking to Detroit Public TV about 10 years ago.
I posted about the Swarmatron about a year ago. It's an analogue synth that creates a tone using eight oscillators all playing slightly different frequencies. The pitch is controlled with a ribbon at the front. The difference between the 8 oscillators is controlled with a span control, from tightly aligned to woozily detuned. It's designed to produce a sort of cacophony, almost like multiple voices singing at once.
It's best known for its use by Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor on their soundtrack to "The Social Network", which won an Oscar and changed a lot of minds about the sort of movies that could use electronic scores.
Leon and Brian Dewan are cousins and together they run Dewanatron, which makes a family of instruments like the Swarmatron, the Novitiate – a one-off they made for the Bob Moog Foundation. Their instruments are unique, expensive, beautiful and very unusual. In the video you see another of their machines, which has two keyboards that face each other so two people play it at the same time.
I also found some great footage of the Novitiate they made for the Bob Moog Foundation on the YouTube channel AutomaticGainsay, which is a great resource for synth reviews and videos. I've posted more videos of the Swarmatron, the Novitiate and other Dewanatron instruments on my YouTube and on the subscriber section of this channel.
The Dewans, whose family is originally from Syria, spoke to a Detroit Public TV show about Arab Americans."

Generative Drum Machine sneak preview
video upload by SPHERICAL SOUND SOCIETY
"So I was trying to check if I could port BRAIDS to the PI PICO. It took me near 3 months of studing and tweaking and adapt the code and finally I got it running
PICO is like 6 times more capable than the original stm32f103 of braids so it left me with a ton of power to experiement and tweak. The first logical step was to replace the 7 segments screen with a 128x64 pixels OLED screen.
Then I added a generative sequencer. And a second envelope. And an LFO. BOOM, it starts to look like a generative drum machine. I fucking love generative drum machines and most of my projects ends looking like one, but they all came from a totally different perspective, sounds totally different and has a unique archhitecture tailored to that system
Currently this one has parameter locks, per step saving and I will be adding probability probabily too :D
Another branch of the project would be to add MIDI (currently working on it) and turn it into a polysynth. Kind of Microfreak, but with the braids oscillators. But that one if ever, will be quite in the future yet.
The Drum machine, is near ready to lauch, and maybe ready to appear as build units, kits and PCBs in my Tindie and Etsy stores, as always

New Module: Farb Highpass - Analog Transistor Highpass Ladder Filter with Tilt EQ
video upload by Making Sound Machines
"Here's another neat little jam with a module from our brand new Farbfilter series!
This time introducing Farb Highpass - an #analog transistor ladder highpass filter, with a few tricks up its sleeve! It is a lovely sounding eastcoast subtractive synthesis filter topography that is often somehwhat overlooked and distinct from the classic lowpass ladder circuit.
We tweaked the #circuit and added CV controlled resonance to the feedback path. We also added a Tilt EQ. It lets you either bring some of the warmth back in, or double down on the #highpass effect and go all sizzly.
In this patch, we're using Stolperbeats to sequence the @WeAreElektron modelcycles, its audio processed through the left #FarbHighpass. The module receives resonance CV from Stolperbeats' envelope out, generating a pulse whenever the kick drum is playing. You can hear the filter's lovely self-resonance kick in with the sweep at the start of the video.
The bass is a Sharktooth wave from @apolloview9305 awesome #Allscillator complex VCO (kits available from Thonk). Its output is folded using the right hand Farb Highpass, with Stolperbeats sending a CV ramp to the filter cutoff with every bass drum. With CV patched, the cutoff knob becomes an offset for the incoming voltage.
At the drop, the voltage controlled resonance is expertly wobbled using @Befacosynth Rampage, good news! We have a small batch of DIY kits packed - you can solder the DIY version with our lead #engineer Enrica and be the first to get your hands on one of these modules! If you can't make it, the kits will become available after Superbooth via our friends at @ThonkSynthDIY and @explodingshed5542 .

"Original vintage 70’s EML Electrocomp 500 analog synthesizer in excellent playing condition!
This fine example has just been fully serviced, recapped, calibrated, and is ready for another 50 years of weirdness!
For the uninitiated, these old EML machines are beasts! They were designed for possibilities, rather than performance, and can get really, REALLY far out in terms of sound creation, and experimentation. Sure, you can make leads and basses, and classic Moog/ arp sounds, but you can also go deeeeep. This one was actually used in a high school science lab to teach electronics and synthesis, and still has the school name, and serial inscribed on the walnut side panel!
Super rare, super cool. Enjoy!!!!"

Vintage Drum Machine Demos & Book - RHYTHM MACHINES The Rise and Fall of the Presets
video upload by Momtnz
"RHYTHM MACHINES - The Rise And Fall Of the Presets - by Alex Graham
Rhythm machines – the precursor to what we in the modern age refer to as a drum machine. This book documents the emergence of the preset pattern electronic rhythm instruments that (for a time) were used as a viable alternative to the drummer. Contained within are the Rhythmates, Rhythm Aces, Rhythm Boxes, Rhythmers, Rhythm Kings, Rhythm Masters, Donca Matics, Mini Pops and many more. Nearly three hundred rhythm instruments are documented here, with over two hundred pictures and information provided on their country of origin, instrument sounds, patterns and features. The book is a ‘must have’ for collectors, vintage instrument enthusiasts and recording artists.

RS056 Casio FZ-1: Ferris' new synth
video upload by rejected synths
No talking demo video below.
"I’ve acquired my Casio FZ-1 quite a while ago and other than installing a floppy disk emulator, I hadn’t used it much before starting this video. Disks taking forever to load and the mostly mediocre patches I found online made me neglect this wonderful machine at first.
But from all the praise I read online and the very few videos that actually existed, I already knew that there had to be something special about the FZ-1. Countless hours later, I now understand that this sampler/synth really is a very capable machine that offered stuff in 1987 that must have been way ahead of it’s time back then. Not only is the, admittedly tiny by today’s standards, graphic display a great help when editing samples, Casio’s engineers really went out of their way to add as many features they could think of in terms of wave editing and creation. They even went as far as adding the possibility to expand the capabilities of the machine even further by additional tools that can be loaded as programs from a floppy disk.
The FZ-1 has unique analog filters, is 8 voice polyphonic and has 8 individual outs that can be assigned freely, filter cutoff can be midi controlled, it has a very nice low end and is built like a tank.
Yet nobody seems to care at all!
Yes it’s crazy how the fact that it says Casio on the back has kept this wonderful machine from receiving much praise at all, even second hand prices are FAR lower than those of comparable machines of the same era. It is said, that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. For me the FZ-1 has really turned out to be real gem :)"

Ghosts of Spring (bioelectric composition #6)
video upload by Musical Miscellany (Poorness Studios)
"Last fall, I made a bioelectric composition as these lilies were withering. Now that spring has arrived and they've broken through the ground, I thought it would be fun to do another one with the same plants. Both setups use the Garden Listener from Clatters Machines to interface the synth with the lilies.
