InstaComposer 2 - Evolved AI MIDI Tool (VST / AU / AAX)

video upload by W. A. Production

Press release follows:

W.A. Production introduces InstaComposer 2 as advanced AI MIDI Tool taking popular MIDI creation station plug-in predecessor to another level

PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC: W.A. Production, producers crafting creative plug-ins to help anyone achieve studio-quality processing speedily and easily, is proud to introduce InstaComposer 2 as an advanced AI MIDI Tool taking its popular InstaComposer MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) creation station plug-in predecessor to another level — launching new features and improvements that enhance the user experience with more MIDI tracks, scenes, new scales, and new modes married with enhanced generative coding and superior performance to make practicable new ideas flow more quickly than ever before by producing a wide variety of musical elements, including melodies, phrases, riffs, and chord progressions to provide both beginners and professional musicians with endless possibilities for creating unique and engaging music in any genre or style while working with an intuitive interface and advanced algorithms allowing them to focus on the creative aspect of music production without having to think about composing every note — as of July 6…

Ever experienced those testing moments when creativity runs dry? Do not fear, for InstaComposer 2 is the ultimate musical muse. Indeed, infinite inspiration is at the creative core of the thinking behind making InstaComposer 2 what it is — an advanced MIDI generation plug-in designed to revolutionise music creation. By building upon the solid foundation of W.A. Production’s popular InstaComposer — itself released to widespread critical acclaim in its original incarnation in October 2021, InstaComposer 2 truly represents an even more attractive proposition, with exciting new features and improvements to enhance the user experience. Example highlights include an ability to organise ideas and song parts with eight new so-called ‘scenes’ — Scene 1 through to Scene 8 — that provide a convenient way to store different variations within a single preset; upgraded Scale support, with 22 additional scales ranging from Arabic and Spanish through to Miyako Bushi, Ryukyu, and more; a new virtual keyboard and highlighted chord menus to help with scale and chord selection; and melodies that can be generated in different modes and paired with unique chord progressions for each scale. Speaking of which, InstaComposer 2 adds two new-generation modes to its notable name — namely, Drums, enabling effortless generation of drum lines (supporting a wide variety of complexity levels, styles, and time signatures), and Pad 2, facilitating creation of a fuller, richer sound (by combining Pad and Chord modes). AI algorithms have been further improved for rhythm, phrase, and melody generation, conjuring more refined results, while new additions like the Sustain parameter — provides control over the length of the notes that are going to be generated — and a Chord Helper — highlights the notes for the selected chord on the virtual keyboard — help take things to another level entirely.

Each new starting point for InstaComposer 2 generates a unique result to ensure that users never run out of fresh ideas and possibilities for their compositions, ultimately. Unlike random note generation, InstaComposer 2 employs meticulously crafted algorithms and databases to produce musical ideas. Indeed, it constructs rhythmic and melodic structures that sound correct by mimicking human creativity — selecting notes that fit the given scale and context, and creating cohesive phrases that complement underlying chords. Clearly, InstaComposer 2 ‘understands’ the human brain’s affinity for pattern recognition. After all, AI (Artificial Intelligence) is involved in making InstaComposer 2 do what it does — different shapes and formats are used to build captivating combinations of beats and bars, adding rhythmic and melodic consistency often found in chart-topping music. Moreover, by using smaller musical chunks that repeat or occur in various forms throughout the melody, InstaComposer 2 builds larger blocks, creating a sense of unity throughout its user’s music-making interactions. It even harmonises notes to enrich the sonics (depending on selected mode and settings), resulting in a more cohesive composition as it aligns melody to chords. Adjustable AI controls — Generate Chords generates harmonious sequences of chords inspired by the most commonly used chord progressions, for instance — and a convenient Chaos control — ensures everything remains under control by preventing unwanted chaotic situations such as notes repeating excessively, jumping erratically, or climbing too far in one direction — mean that users can comfortably remain in charge of how InstaComposer 2 develops ideas (and how far it strays from any set rules), while fine-tuning of chord complexity, note population, beat and bar structuring, pattern generation, harmonisation, velocity randomisation, and more are always available.

As an advanced AI MIDI Tool, InstaComposer 2 includes complex algorithms for generating Melody (generates a wide variety of melodies and phrases), Riff (similar to Melody, but with shorter phrases, more repeating patterns, and more restricted structures), Ostinato (generates short melodic phrases that keep repeating, often ignoring chord changes underneath), Rhythm (generates more harmonies, focusing on rhythmic patterns and chord notes), Bass (generates bass lines that compliment chords and melodies being played), Chord (focuses on the chord notes with options to inverse chords and add bass notes), and Pad (emphasises longer notes often focusing on harmonies based on underlying chords). Creatively exploring the potential of these modes means users are always uncovering unique and compelling music. Moreover, with those eight scenes available alongside six tracks — Track 1 through to Track 6, InstaComposer 2 offers flexibility and organisation for multiple layers, alternative variations, and different song parts within a single preset.

Put it this way: with a user-friendly piano-roll interface at their fingertips, users can effortlessly manoeuvre, duplicate, and remove notes, and even change velocity to effectively breathe life into their riffs, while the onboard MIDI editor can be used to tweak the output of InstaComposer 2, meaning music can be manipulated before it even leaves the plug-in. Personalised style and creativity can be easily added to the AI-generated phrases, in other words.

Modifying MIDI playback directly within the InstaComposer 2 interface itself is also on offer — simply save the output as a MIDI file or conveniently drag and drop it into a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). It is also worth noting here that each track can be saved separately. Setting up multi-channel instruments as an alternative workflow also allows for routing MIDI from InstaComposer 2 into virtual instruments to preview all six tracks simultaneously — and all without ever having to leave the plug-in environment.

It is fair to say, then, that by taking its popular plug-in predecessor to another level as InstaComposer 2, W.A. Production has surely succeeded in creating the only MIDI creation station anyone could conceivably wish for... today, tomorrow, and into the foreseeable future!

InstaComposer 2 is available to purchase at an attractive 70%-discounted introductory promo price of $32.70 USD until August 17, 2023 — rising thereafter to its regular price of $109.00 USD — as a 64-bit AU-, VST-, and VST3-compatible plug-in for macOS (10.15 or later) and 32- or 64-bit VST-, and VST3-compatible plug-in for Windows (8 or later), as well as an AAX-compatible plug-in for Pro Tools (11 or higher), directly from W.A. Production via its dedicated webpage, which also includes some superb audio previews, here: https://www.waproduction.com/plugins/view/instacomposer-2

Owners of the original InstaComposer can upgrade to InstaComposer 2 for only $10.00 USD.

14-day, fully-functional trial versions of all W.A. Production plug-ins — including InstaComposer 2 — are available by signing up for an account for free from here: https://www.waproduction.com/users/login

MUSICGEN AI Generated Electronic Music

Two MUSICGEN AI generated releases in via Liquid Sky Berlin.

First up:

AI sessions #01 - brainFKK noise - entirely created by AI by Gehirn Bernstein featuring MusicGen & Dr Walker

"all sounds you hear were generated with and by MUSICGEN
an AI freeware
arranged and mixed in ableton live
100% of the income of this release - well.... its not a "real" release - more a kind of test what is possible - goes into the Liquid Sky reforestation project.

so lets go & plant some trees!"

2nd:

#AI techno #01 - created with artificial intelligence by djungle fAIver

"Fresh from the digital womb of MUSICGEN, an AI that spins "text-to-music", comes this experimental release.

We kicked off with our hopes tuned to minimal, questioning if this machine intelligence could vibe with our underground ethos.

But, damn, the bot surprised us, spitting out raw, pulsating bad ass underground beats that made our speakers throb and clip.

On track 02 & 05 we cheated :
on track 02 we added a drumloop in the background as the AI generated loops didn t have much high freqs.

On track 05 we sprinkled in a touch of 303, just to spice up the synthetic stew. The rest, though? 100% AI machine-crafted. Pure digital grungey dirty noisey artificial intelligence techno, birthed from MUSICGEN's binary brain.

We were only using Ableton for arrangements and mixdown and some FX like eqs and compressors.

Sure, the AI's BY FAR not perfect - but the ride's only just begun.

We did not correct rendering errors from the AI.
Some of the generated loops are really WAY out of timing.

100% of the income from this release goes into the Liquid Sky reforestation.

G-Sonique Psytrance AI Voices - VST / AU plug-in instrument for Win & Mac - psytrance intro voices

video upload by G-Sonique

"G-Sonique Psytrance AI Voices - VST / AU plug-in instrument for Win & Mac - psytrance intro voices Available here: https://www.g-sonique.com/shop.html

Psytrance music is characterized by exciting and elaborate intros, outros, intermezzos, breakouts. Nothing gets a crowd crazy more than an professional built-up graduating from chill intermezzo to a dance passage with atomic bomb energy.

And it is in these passages often interesting thematic voices /vocalsare used. However, it seems boring to people if they hear the same message 1000 times from Timothy Leary, McKenna or from the movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. People want to hear something new, different. That's why the Psytrance A.I. Voices - VST / AU plug-in instrument for Win and Mac was created. AI voices instrument is full of robotic, synthetic psytrance themed psychedelic voices and slogans. The sounds are created by artificial intelligence, then resampled and resynthesized with various futuristic sound design methods. They sound excellent in a wide range of octaves. You will find every voice in different sound variations from classic AIs, to robotic, mystical, crystal-glass-sounding ethereal beings, matrix entities and witches, created deep in the mind of artificial intelligence.

These notes can be used in intros/interludes as well as together with beats.

Listen to the demo. Spice up your production with unexpected sounds - people remember the spoken word best because it is closest to our DNA.

Very well usable in genres such as: psytrance, hitech, darkpsy, full-on psytrance, progressive, darkprog, tech trance, psycore, experimental, neurofunk, psybient, but also techno, minimal and others.

Acids Neurorack - The First Deep AI-based Eurorack Synthesizer

video upload by Acids Team - Ircam

Note Artisan Electronics has a Neurorack module system (4:52 here), however it does not appear to be AI based. There is also this user labeled Eurorack system with "brainwaves/EEG signals as source of modulation (the Neuro portion of it)", but again no AI (there is also soundmachines' BI1brainterface (no AI). (Update: there was also the Hartmann Neuron and Jomox Neuronium, both based on neuronal networks.) As for AI applied to synthesis in general, you can find posts mentioning artificial intelligence here. I believe the earliest reference would be John Chowning in 1964: "Following military service in a Navy band and university studies at Wittenberg University, Chowning, aided by Max Mathews of Bell Telephone Laboratories and David Poole of Stanford, set up a computer music program using the computer system of Stanford University's Artificial Intelligence Laboratory in 1964."

Description for the above video:
"The Neurorack is the first ever AI-based real-time synthesizer, which comes in many formats and more specifically in the Eurorack format. The current prototype relies on the Jetson Nano. The goal of this project is to design the next generation of music instrument, providing a new tool for musician while enhancing the musician's creativity. It proposes a novel approach to think and compose music. We deeply think that AI can be used to achieve this quest. The Eurorack hardware and software have been developed by our team, with equal contributions from Ninon Devis, Philippe Esling and Martin Vert."

More information

Motivations
Deep learning models have provided extremely successful methods in most application fields, by enabling unprecedented accuracy in various tasks, including audio generation. However, the consistently overlooked downside of deep models is their massive complexity and tremendous computation cost. In the context of music creation and composition, model reduction becomes eminently important to provide these systems to users in real-time settings and on dedicated lightweight embedded hardware, which are particularly pervasive in the audio generation domain. Hence, in order to design a stand alone and real time instrument, we first need to craft an extremely lightweight model in terms of computation and memory footprint. To make this task even more easier, we relied on the Nvidia Jetson Nano which is a nanocomputer containing 128-core GPUs (graphical unit processors) and 4 CPUs. The compression problem is the core of the PhD topic of Ninon Devis and a full description can be found here.

Targets of our instrument
We designed our instrument so that it follows several aspects that we found crucial:

Musical: the generative model we choose is particularly interesting as it produces sounds that are impossible to synthesize without using samples.

Controllable: the interface was relevantly chosen, being handy and easy to manipulate.

Real-time: the hardware behaves as traditional instrument and is as reactive.

Stand alone: it is playable without any computer.

Model Description
We set our sights on the generation of impacts as they are very complex sounds to reproduce and almost impossible to tweak. Our model allows to generate a large variety of impacts, and enables the possibility to play, craft and merge them. The sound is generated from the distribution of 7 descriptors that can be adjusted (Loudness - Percussivity - Noisiness - Tone-like - Richness - Brightness - Pitch).

Interface
One of the biggest advantage of our module is that it can interact with other synthesizer. Following the classical conventions of modular synthesizers, our instrument can be controlled using CVs (control voltages) or gates. The main gate triggers the generation of the chosen impact. Then it is possible to modify the amount of Richness and Noisiness with two of the CVs. A second impact can be chosen to be "merge" with the main impact: we will call this operation the interpolation between two impacts. Their amounts of descriptors are melt to give an hybrid impact. The "degree of merging" is controlled by the third CV, whereas the second gate triggers the interpolation.

Hypercube VST: Reduce 100+ Synth Parameters to Just 3

Novel Insight Software

https://www.novelinsight.fi

Here is an interesting program in via Novel Insight Software. In short it uses artificial intelligence to pick from all available parameters in creating a three new parameter. The three act as macro controls for the parameters selected and they can change over time. One of the thing that makes the Yamaha DX-200 and the newer Reface DX are the macro controls allowing you to morph multiple FM parameters at the same time. And of course there's the macro knob on the Yamaha MODX series.

The following is what Novel Insight Software had to say about the software:

"We have been developing a new (still beta) software which makes it easier to find new sounds from VST synths. (Novel Insight Hypercube VST).

The freeware software uses machine learning to analyze presets and reduces the number of parameters to three making it easier to find new sounds. Currently VST2 plugins are supported.

The algorithms start from a random starting points so the results are a bit different everytime parameters are calculated, especially when there are no large number of presets available (machine learning methods require large amount of data and typically the number of presets are only in hundreds meaning the results depend on a random starting points).

Software is also quite slow on laptops, it can take 10 minutes or hours to calculate parameter reduction for a single VST instrument. I’m developing GPU acceleration which should speed up calculations significantly."

And via their website where you can find the download and a few demos: https://www.novelinsight.fi

"Hypercube VST is a parameter reducer plugin for VST2 instruments. It reduces the number of synthesizer/effect parameters to just three (3) which makes it easier to find new sounds than changing 100+ parameters that may be available through the normal user interface.

In order to to do parameter reduction a VST module must have roughly more presets of good instruments/effects than there are synthesizer parameters. The existing good presets are used to find "three dimensional space of good sounds", which can be then explored by using only three parameters: X, Y and Z.

Hypercube VST currently supports only 64bit VST2 modules. Support of 64bit VST3 instruments is planned in future releases. This software requires 64bit Windows 10 (earlier versions not tested) and 64bit Java (plugin generator user interface).

License

Hypercube VST is free to use (freeware) but closed source."
