ARP Odyssey – What a monster!

video upload by Marius Leicht

"I recently got my beloved ARP Odyssey back from restoration after more than two years! But it was so worth the wait.

The Oddy (pun intended) can be a bit intimidating at first glance: No pitch and modwheels, sliders instead of knobs, a bit of a quirky layout... combined with its surprisingly complex modulation capabilities, this puts the ambitious synthesist on the quest for the "taming of the unruly".

After spending some quality time with this now fully restored beauty, I get in touch with her soul deeper and deeper and I just performed a little improvised sound meditation, pushing the amazing 4023 filter of this rare whiteface mk I to places where no Behringer clone will ever go... ;-)

It touches my heart how she sings and dances with the Juno! Let me know what these sounds evoke in you!"

Aerated Distortion: synth track criada com Moog Sub 37 e MPC One

video upload by Marcus Padrini

Tudo sequenciado no MPC One.

During the pandemic, I recorded some ideas with an alternative setup. Now, little by little, I'm transferring the tracks to the main setup. This is the case with the track Aerated Distortion, created from a Dave Smith Tetra preset, with a sequence from Arturia Keystep pro, strings from the Behringer VC340 and lead from the Moog Sub 37. Of all of them, only the Sub 37 remains in the setup.

The Tetra and VC340 have been replaced here by the MPC One and its virtual instruments. I recreated the Tetra timbre using Jura (juno 106) and the strings with Solina from MPC. I included a bass from the ARP Odyssey (also from MPC) and kept the same lead patch from the Sub 37. All sequenced in MPC One."

RECREATING Let the music play by Shannon | Sequential Prophet 5 | Casio CZ1 | Behringer RD8

video upload by benanderson89

"On the original track, a Roland CR8000, TB-303, JX3P and MC202 were used. Unlike my previous recreation of Into the groove by Madonna, this one doesn't feel quite so accurate, and I blame all of that on the 'Celeste' and 'Xylophone'; I cannot figure out how they were done on the original. Even so, I'm still really happy with the results.

Instruments used:
Sequential Circuits #prophet5 : Filter sweeps, 7ths, Strings, Brass

#CasioCZ1 : 'Guitar' chords

#Behringer #deepmind12 : Bell, Celeste (sequences), Xylophone (sequenced)

Behringer #rd8 : Drums (programmed entirely using the internal pattern and song sequencer)

LinnDrum: Congas (sadly not using my real LinnDrum since it appears to be two different conga ROMs in the original song, or maybe they were using a sampler in the original?)

#Roland #tb03 and Behringer #arpodyssey : Bass. Sequenced entire on the TB-03 internal sequencer (IMO it's really not that hard to use a 303 sequencer), which was synced to via MIDI to the DAW, but also output said sequence to the Odyssey.

The effects are period correct, using tape-style delays, a simulation of the AMS RMX16 for reverb, some stereo CLA76s and tape simulators for that final touch."

"Clair de lune" - 3-voice synthesizer rendition: Moog Sub37 CV, ARP Odyssey, Blue Marvin 2600

video upload by Piotr Garbaczonek

"Thanks for watching!
I split Clair de lune into 3 monophonic voices, and ran each voice through a different synth, using the MOTU midi express 128. The first voice was the Behringer Blue Marvin 2600, the second voice was the ARP Odyssey, and the 3rd Bass Voice was the Moog Subsequent 37 CV. Just a little experiment. Let me know in the comments what rendition you want me to do in the near future. Cheers:)

The Mighty ARP Axxe II

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
video upload by Erich Izdepski

"I performed major repairs on this synth as documented here. Everything works really well. This is a sales demo video but will also show you how cool this synth can be. https://erichizdepski.wordpress.com/2...

This is a great synth. Powerful filter with the ability to play it in tune with the other oscillators. Great spacey sound fx potential. Much stronger audio output level than the Behringer Odyssey (which I have and really like). Can control Eurorack gear or other analog synths using CV (has pitch, gate, and trigger in and out jacks)."

via this auction

"This is a great little synth with many interesting abilities. One of the best single oscillator synths, in my opinion, and I have owned several.

Here is a list of problems I fixed:

Several sliders did not affect the sound- all sliders cleaned, lubricated and working fine now

replaced all key bushings; cleaned key bus bar

repaired about 10 keys with 3-d printed parts

replaced power LED – new green LED with a 2.2KOhm series resistor installed to control voltage

installed a fuse and fuse holder in power supply

replaced IC 723, large filter capacitors, and tantalum capacitors in power supply

replaced tantalum capacitors at input to positive and negative rails on main PCB

not in tune – calibrated and sounds great

check power supply voltage output and look at ripple – calibrated and voltage is spot on and clean

You can search for my blog (erichizdepski.wordpress.com) and read about the repair details.

Even has the original slider caps!"

Clouds Forming

Martin Peters

"A couple of weeks ago I got my Oberheim OB-Mx back from repairs after it has been in repair for a year. There are 3 voicecards inside, each containing 2 voices, so it has 6 voices in total. But 1 of these voicecards could not be tuned anymore. The repair-shop could not find the problem so I still have 1 voicecard I cannot use.

Anyways, this video starts with the Oberheim OB-Mx having the VCA's opened playing a G minor chord. The Minimoog solo comes in and there is a sort of 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' deja-vu. The Polymoog with the Behringer VP1 Phaser accompanies the Minimoog. After that some tones are added from the Synthesizers.com Modular, Oberheim SEM and Korg ARP Odyssey with the VCA's opened. Then the sequences start, adding the Joranalogue Generate 3 and Mutable Instruments Plaits. It all builds up to a climax where the Odyssey plays some notes. And after that it all fades out to nothing.

The track was recorded live to multi-track on the Behringer X32 Compact and mixed in Studio One afterwards. The mix only involves some gain staging, EQ and compression. No track edits where performed and no automation was used.

I hope you will enjoy it

November Storm

Martin Peters

"Last weeks I made some nice music but none of it was good enough to record in my opinion or I could not play it without hitting the wrong keys...

This week I came up with this track. On the Cirklon there are 5 monophonic sequences. The bass is played on the Synthesizers.com Modular. The other voices are played on the Synthesizers.com and Eurorack Modular, the Tom Oberheim SEM and the Korg ARP Odyssey. One polyphonic sequence is played on the Roland JD-800 doing a strings sound. The manual keyboard interaction is done on the Polymoog, which is fed through a Behringer VP1 Phaser, and the Minimoog. In the video I have placed some pictures so you can see which modules and instruments are playing.

The track was recorded live to multi-track on the Behringer X32 Compact and mixed in Studio One afterwards. I hope you will enjoy it.

The track can be downloaded from Bandcamp:"

Reflections

Martin Peters

"This music is somewhat inspired by the beautiful music accompanying the slide show of the Node Live Blu-Ray. You hear the Sequentix Cirklon sequencing 2 voices of the Synthesizers.com Modular, the Oberheim SEM and the Mutable Instruments Stages which is configured as a Harmonic Oscillator. The NDLR is sequencing the Korg Odyssey and the DSI Mopho. The VCF of the Moog Polymoog is triggered by the gates of a separate Cirklon sequence. The solo is on the Moog Minimoog.

The title refers to questions spinning around in my head for which no one knows the answers to.

The track was recorded live to multi-track on the Behringer X32 Compact and mixed in Studio One afterwards. I hope you will enjoy it.

The track can be downloaded from Bandcamp."

Michael's Anthem (Kebu cover): Korg Radias, Arp Odyssey, Yamaha DX7, Moog Sub 37 & Nord Stage 2EX

Marcus Padrini

"In 2017, I recorded a video with a version of this great Kebu song. At the time, I did everything using only Korg Radias and a few other synths, without sequencing, playing just about everything live.

Recently, I had to move the synths to another space, think about a new dimension, position of each instrument, make all the audio, MIDI and electrical cables. After everything was ready, it was time to test the synth sequencing. The idea was to use that same structure as the version of Michael's Anthem (simply because I like it a lot), but now with new elements, sequenced synths to fill this humble version even more :)

This time, the lead was played with the DSI Tetra, great analog synth by Dave Smith. And the noise sweep filter effect was programmed on the Behringer MS-1. Sequencing on account, as always, of the Roland MC-808.

I'm still getting used to the position of the synths, suffering a little in the execution, with the lighting, etc. But soon, everything will be ready to start creating and recording again!'

Original version by Kebu posted back in 2012 here, followed by a live at PIUG performance here in 2016.

Behringer Odyssey as a performance synth - 5 patches in one track

Published on Nov 9, 2019 Arrayzable

"In this video I will use 5 different patches while playing live.

1. Plucked sound with echo effect.
2. Lead sound.
3. Soft and round flute like sound.
4. Hard but thin sound, kinda like a harpsichord.
5. Ultra powerful lead sound.

The 'backing track' is sequenced via the Korg Electribe EMX-1, and I'm both playing the EMX-1 and changing patterns on it, so it sometimes steals my concentration from the Odyssey - sorry about that :)
The string sound in the beginning comes from the Korg X5Dr and is a Jay B patch.
The guitar like sounds up next are from the Novation KS4.
The heavy long noted bass sounds comes from the DSI Mopho.
The short noted bass line comes from the Volca Bass.
The Vocoder sound comes from the Korg ih (Interactive Vocal Harmony) and is controlled live from the Korg R3.
The rest is all Behringer Odyssey. The Bodyssey uses it's inbuilt reverb effect.

This is an original track called "All Over Again". Lyrics and music made by Arrayzable.

As always live play with synths and sequencers.

Used in this track:

Behringer Odyssey
Novation KS4 (K-Station)
Korg Electribe EMX-1
Korg ih Interactive Harmony
DSI Mopho
Volca Bass
Korg X5DR
Korg R3
Arrayzable"
