What is Salome?

"A quick look at Salome:

Salome is a sampling gadget for quickly capturing (or importing) any snippet of sound, creating seamless loops out of it, and playing it polyphonically using MPE, MIDI or the onscreen controls.

I made Salome, because I needed something that would allow me to easily create seamlessly looping soundscapes, without the need to use sound editing applications. Salome allows you to do all of this within your host/DAW, in mere seconds.

The onscreen play-controls provide basic (but expressive) tools for performing soundscapes and ambient pieces. Obviously, you can also use any other MPE/MIDI controller - hardware or software to play Salome.

Plugins for iOS and MacOS (ARM and Intel) are included, so you can move projects from your mobile device to your laptop, and vice-versa."

The pads are made from field recordings of Malta harbor and slowed down Nagra loops.All are processed and played with my new instrument Fluss. Bass is Roland SH2, melody Juno60 through a wire recorder, harmonies are Fluss processing the Juno. Drums are a modded TR-606. Cameron Entzminger sent me an audio file of a Soma Lyra-8 performance to run through the Flame Mäander’s filter bank.

In this video I first fade in the various filter bank channels. Then I morph to the filter bank’s 12-track envelope sequencer, which adds rhythm to the drone and introduces stereo panning effects. The 10 filter bands above the bass frequencies are split between the left and right channels when you plug cables into both audio output sockets.

Later on, I add sequenced white noise shots from the Mäander and additional percussion from Bram Bos’ Ruismaker iOS drum machine, turning the Lyra-8 drone into some kind of dark industrial beat music.

Finally some good weather on our camping trip. My 9V + USB power bank is all charged up so here’s another jam session with the Flame Mäander wavetable and filterbank synth. I played it for a bit in my camping chair, making gratuitous use of the noise shot beat repeat feature and wavetable morphing. Later on my iPad Pro then, I added a kick drum and additional percussion in Steinberg Cubasis 2, with Bram Bos Ruismaker AUv3 drum machine iOS plugin. Of course I also threw some Audio Damage EOS 2 reverb on the Mäander’s audio track there, because those two just sound so beautiful together :)"

The noise snare is still the original Mäander though. Of course there was also a bunch of Kosmonaut delay and Audio Damage EOS2 reverb involved."
