WERSI WERSIMATIC II / CRB OBERON

video upload by Vintage Audio Institute Italia

"This is an analog auto-accompaniment machine produced by the German organ manufacturer Wersi sometime in the mid-70s. Originally part of a big, dual manual organ called Helios, this auto-comp section was probably removed from the organ and squeezed into a faux Teak cabinet - literally crammed with circuit boards - all beautifully snug inside - a very good job by whoever built it.
We used a ton of effects of this track - most noticeably the Davoli 2K disc echo - insanely rare unit with a Schaller disc unit mounted inside - the very mounted inside the Lombardi mixing desks.
The Digitech Synth Wah is also going strong - an envelope follower pedal on the cheap side.

We're pairing the Wersimatic II with the glorious CRB Oberon - a unicorn of a dual oscillator monophonic synth made in Italy in the late 70s - one of very few still existing.
Lots of fun features it can really sound huge - there's still lots more to explore here

The grey string machine in the video is also marked CRB - a simple, two sounds (violin and cello) string machine, unusually light weight for the oldie it is - the CRB 709.
It's sound is bright and lush - really not at all bad.

Vintage Audio Institute Italia is a gear vendor and recording studio in the hills of Florence."

"Whilst taking a holiday in Italy we stopped off at Museo del Synth Marchigiano for a couple of days and this is the account of what I experienced there.

Enormous thanks to everyone at the museum, particularly Riccardo and Paolo.

Crb Elettronica Oberon Italian Vintage Synthesizer

video upload by Riccardo Pietroni

"Some sounds recorded by Crb Oberon, one of the rarest and most exotic Italian electronic instruments.

This particular unit was found completely empty and without the internal cards and was totally rebuilt by the 'Museo del Synth Marchigiano'."

V.A.I. 67 CRB Computerband 2000 / CRB Oberon

video upload by Vintage Audio Institute Italia

"Another little track we threw together with these rare oddballs.
The CRB Computerband 2000 is a four section auto-accompaniment stand-alone unit usually built in to big, furniture style home organs.
The CRB Oberon is a monophonic synthesizer made in a very limited run by the same company around the same time. It has two oscillators plus an added 3rd more limited and with 4 footages it can get quite big, but this time around we wanted a more delicate lead sound out of it."

V.A.I. 64 - CRB Oberon / CRB Computerband 2000

video upload by Vintage Audio Institute Italia

"Another little video with some neat CRB equipment, the CRB Oberon is a two oscillator monophonic synth from the late 70s.
The CRB Computerband 2000 came out a few years later and is a classic auto accompaniment machine with 4 sections"

Note it's branded Computer Band 2000.

V.A.I. 63 CRB Computer Band 2000 / CRB Oberon

video upload by Vintage Audio Institute Italia

"Introducing the wonderfully quirky CRB Computer Band 2000 - a mainly analog auto accompaniment machine from the early 80s with four sections:

1.Drums with individually mutable sounds
2.Bass section with three sounds and two modes
3.Two chord sections with a total of seven sounds, decay and volume controls.
4. And an arpeggiator with four different sounds and decay control.

These sections were originally made for big home-organs, they're incorporated into the CRB 910 organs and a few Solton branded ones as well.
The stand-alone units are quite rare.
The CRB Oberon is a two oscillator monster synth from roughly the same era, it has some interesting features and is probably the most complicated Italian mono synths out there."

V.A.I. : CRB Oberon / CRB String Machine

video upload by Vintage Audio Institute Italia

"Another video of the glorious CRB Oberon, a unicorn of a monophonic synth made in Italy in the late 70s.
We wanted to sample the more odd side of the machine, bringing out unusual, harsh and bright sounds.
Sorry for the sloppy playing, we’re not keyboard players and the action on this machine is frankly pretty terrible, we need to take a look at that in a near future.
The grey string machine is also marked CRB - a simple, two sounds (violin and cello) string machine, unusually light weight for the oldie it is.
We’re really digging it for that factor, as well as its sound - not at all bad.
We’ll be looking into a few other rare CRB machines soon, so please subscribe and follow us on Instagram for gear sales."

V.A.I. 69 : CRB Oberon / Elka Drummer One

video upload by Vintage Audio Institute Italia

"The CRB Oberon is a dual oscillator monophonic synth made in a very limited production run in Italy in the late 70s by CRB, at the time mainly makers of consumer transistor organs. The synthesizer is equipped with a third limited oscillator and it has a wide range of sound capabilities: it can produce huge lush leads - like in this video here - but also the very opposite : harsh and oddly thin textures and sound effects.
It’s fairly stable in pitch and performance and has lots on board, 2 noise generators, a switchable low and high pass filter but also sporting a third filter type, that we need more time to explore, plus interesting LFO possibilities.
We want to give a massive thanks to Marco Molendi and Mirco Trentin for repairing this unit - reverse engineering it to create the schematics from scratch - literally saving a machine that was in bad shape on arrival. Also big shout out to Riccardo at Museo del synth Marchigiano who helped out by cross referencing his machine to this one, and lastly Marcello Colò, who developed the CRB Oberon in the 70s, while working at the CRB plant.

These are immensely rare and there aren’t many recordings or videos of the Oberon out there so we hope you enjoy, all in all we need more time with this machine since it’s a bit more complex than the other monophonic Italian synths of the era - but they'll be more videos coming - so please stay tuned."

The Forgotten Synthesizers Of Marche Region

video upload by HAINBACH

Update: you can find additional posts featuring The Museo Del Synth Marchigiano here.

"The Marche Region in Italy was home to a thriving industry of music instrument production from the 1950s to the mid-90s. Tens of thousands of people made organs, accordions and small runs of synthesizers that were like nothing else in the world. Much production closed in the 90s, leaving only a few companies around, and many people lost their jobs. The history of Marche synths was not talked about, too bitter were the memories. The Museo Del Synth Marchigiano aims to change that - a motley crew of synth lovers work together to get the story about this special time in music instrument history out.

I was invited to play a show at Acusmatic Festival in Ancona and visit the collection before. I was overwhelmed by the amazing sounds these machines made, so I captured them on tape and for use in my performance. I also just had to film every synth I could get my hand for you to enjoy. You will find instruments by Siel, Elka, Elgan, Farfisa, Crumar, CRB and more here.
