"Ok so after talking making the "favorite sounds of the QMMG" video I had some requests about making a shootout between it and the 292t from Tiptop Audio & Buchla.

I decided to indulge AND to add two other recent lpgs to the table with the Sosumi by Nekya Circuits, a small 4hp, knobless, dual LPG inspired by the original Buchla 292; and the Centaur's Gate by Shakmat, that does MUCH more (multi mode filters / VCA, with preset recall) than all others but does have an internal analog vactrol emulation that I wanted to check out alongside the others."

"The Centaur’s Gates is a fully analog signal path dual multi-types gate. Each of its two channels can take many forms : a smooth and warm two poles filter, a ready to ping low-pass gate, a VCA with distorting feedback loop, or an aggressive filter reminiscent of the unfamous Korg MS20. Both versions of the filter are available in three modes (low-pass, band-pass and high-pass), bringing to eight the number of types a channel can take the form of.

The extended sonic palette the Centaur’s Gates delivers is not its only asset as the module includes handy features such as serial/parallel routing, vactrol analog emulation, control link, variable input gain with drive, Select Bus compatibility, and last but not least, clickless switching for channels type selection via cv.

Superbooth 2023: Shakmat Modular - 4 New Modules

"We spoke to Francois from Shakmat Modular at Superbooth 2023, who introduced us to their four new modules. First up is the Clock O' Pawn MK2, a new version of a previous clock generation model. They also showcased the Centaur's Gates, which is a dual multi-type gate that allows for different kinds of VCF, LPG, or VCA. The Battering Ram and Arches Rig are two new modules in their German model line. The Battering Ram is a collaboration with Mark Nostrom, an instrument and plug-in designer, and is a synthesis-based kick drum that has controls for pitch, decay, drive, and click. It has a gate or trigger mode and also features a volt-active input. The module also comes with a store and recall function that allows you to make a snapshot of all the controls.

Next up, Shakmat Modular introduced the Archer's Rig, a high hat generator that bridges the gap between analog and digital synthesis. The module features digital sensors processed by analog VCA, VCF, and distortion. There are various algorithms based on different square waves, such as 808 squares, and noise. The Archer's Rig has 10 different algorithms and eight different effects that allow for a lot of sonic possibilities. The module also allows for 96 presets and has a random generator for each parameter.
