"JCS BN-1" 4-Bit Linear PCM Synthesizer - Part 2 (Finished)

video upload by blarrer20

"This video demonstrates the final version of a 4-bit Linear PCM synthesizer that I have designed and built over about two months. It makes use of mostly Soviet clones of 7400 and 74LS series TTL chips, with no microcontrollers involved. It has a 256 x 4 SRAM chip that allows the user to program whatever waveforms may be desired, with looping capability, and starting at whatever point desired. Most importantly, it is able to be controlled by an external source, for example a keyboard instrument. It also has a frequency doubler circuit. This video is part 2 of 2, showing the finished product.

Chip Maestro - 8 bit chiptune MIDI synthesizer cartridge for NES

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Chip Maestro 8 bit synthesizer cartridge for NES. I bought this from the original kickstarter years ago, but have never really used it. Just popped it in the NES and tried it out for a few minutes. This is very easy to use, but does not display anything on the screen while it's plugged in - everything is configured via MIDI. The instruction booklet is available on chipmaestro.com."

You can find some demos in previous posts here.

The last one featured for sale, in 2013, had a green case.

VGM #148: Manoria Cathedral (Chrono Trigger) Ambient Industrial Doom Cover

Published on Sep 11, 2018 Ace Waters

"It's like if the Cathedral was in Bloodborne, instead of Chrono Trigger. I got real dark on this one, and I am so happy with how crunchy and heavy it got. My friend Khalil Moutrie helped by lending his smooth, monk chant vocals to the mix. We have been talking about collaborating for a while, so I am happy to have gotten a chance to work with him!"

Sequential Prophet-6, Tempest, Kurzweil PC3X, Moog Voyager XL, Nintendo NES with CHIP MAESTRO, Korg Arp Odyssey & more. These are great and pass the posting guidelines for the site as you can distinctly see and hear what each individual synth is doing.

Game of Thrones Remix on NESKeytar (8-bit)

Published on Jun 3, 2014 Theremin Hero·28 videos

"Full explanation of the NESKeytar construction and it's various features coming soon.
Yes, I know I misspelled "functional". A complete lack of proof reading, woops :(

Most of the buttons are functional and can be remapped to different functions, as can the whammy bar. It also has an onboard arpeggio and drum sequencer.

The sound comes from the original RP2A03 chip in the NES, giving it that classic 8-bit sound. All of the available sound channels are utilised.

The software runs on a raspberry pi and is written in a language called Pure Data (pd). There are various modes including a midi controller mode as well as a standalone mode, which allows the whole instrument to be used with a battery pack.

Components:
NES
Guitar Hero Controller
Famicom Controller
NES controller
Toy Keyboard
3 Mini Arduinos
Raspberry Pi
MaxM LEDs
Midi IN/OUT connections

Chip Maestro NES MIDI Synthesizer Cartridge

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

"Most chiptune artists today use 'software synths' to try to recreate the unique sound we grew to love, but even the best emulation can't capture all the tones and nuances of a real NES. Now, using the Chip Maestro, you can use your NES to compose your music, right on the console! Chip Maestro allows you to play your NES using any MIDI keyboard, or by hooking up your favorite DAW through a USB-MIDI converter. By controlling the 2 Pulse waves, Triangle wave, and Noise channel, you can compose 8 bit symphonies that sound exactly like the originals!"

Chip Maestro - An NES MIDI Synthesizer Cartridge

"The Chip Maestro is a finished product up on Kickstarter, and it's seeking backers!
The Chip Maestro is a special NES cartridge that turns the NES into a synthesizer. You can play it using a MIDI keyboard or a USB to MIDI converter. By directly manipulating the NES CPU's sound circuitry, all sounds played through this cartridge are authentic NES tones! This is as realistic to the 8-bit era as you can get with live sound. Previous trackers have been able to play music, but all of them required pre-composition. This cartridge lets you do improvs and solos during live shows, or fiddle around with new tunes. I hope to get it into every chiptune artist's hands soon. Thanks for your support!"

Update via Jarek: "The advantage of the Chip Maestro over the MIDInes is its availability and price.

The Chip Maestro will support parameter changes to all sound channels of the NES. If you pledge at any level, you will get first look at the technical documents, and be able to propose changes/improvements that you would like, such as which parameter changes are important, and how they would be best implemented."
