"Yes this beast is ugly but yes it works, it could use a-little cleaning. It sounds big and it has an interesting organ tone. The top section is a built in Moog Satellite which that alone goes for 800-1000$."

VSMI - Vintage Synths Made in Italy Live Stream 1/1/22

video upload by VSMI - Vintage Synths Made in Italy

Anyone ID the synth to the top left of the Cordovox Moog White Elephant?

Update: looks like it's a Welson "Symphony" as seen at the one minute mark in The Forgotten Synthesizers Of Marche Region.

Not sure what he's playing on the shelf with the blue panels. Thought it might be a Siel Opera 6, but the spacing is wrong.

Update via gridsleep in the comments: "Blue synth is a Jen Synx 508, featured in the site previously."

"This is an extremely rare Moog collaboration with Cordovox. When I purchased this beast it was in rough shape so I restored most of the outer shell and got most of the internals working the way they should. This includes

1. Exterior UV treated to restore the original "white" appearance.
2. Fixed various wiring miss connections within the circuitry.
3. Reconnected trouble spots that needed to be resoldered.
4. Repaired sliders that were no longer operational.

This is about as far as I got on the restoration. There are however some issues with the Moog side of things. These include.

1. Pitch on particular keys don't always work perfectly. (I speculate that this is due to bad key contacts, which should be an easy fix)
2. Some presets are not fully operational.
3. In manual mode not all parameters work perfectly.
4. Some Moog sliders don't have caps

This was a really fun restoration project, the Moog side has a few issues as noted above but the organ side of things is truly amazing! All together this Synth/Organ sounds great and is a true one of a kind.

I had to part with this because its taking up too much space and I would like my living room back ;)"

1974 Moog White Elephant CDX-0652 Vintage Cordovox Combo Organ & Synthesizer

"Up for sale, a 1974 Moog/Cordovox "White Elephant" CDX-0652 vintage dual manual synth/combo organ, fully serviced and optimally functional. A truly one-of-a-kind circuit, the White Elephant is not only a very rare, sonically complex behemoth, it's also a circuit that very few techs will tackle. Thankfully we've wrangled the beast, and to the tune of $1500+ worth of thorough servicing, this Elephant delivers the goods.

A joint venture between Moog and Corodovox, the Moog Satellite synthesizer was licensed by Thomas Organ for a particularly hefty price tag, and Thomas designed a circuit that integrated Moog's synth technology with traditional combo organ features, offered via the Cordovox brand as the CDX-0652. The keyboard was produced in Italy by EME, the same factory responsible for most of Vox's Italian combo organs including the Jaguar and Continental.

The synthesizer voices play only on the upper manual, while the organ voices play on both, with organ and synth sections simultaneously available on the upper manual. The CDX-0652 also includes a batch of 9 preset synthesizer voices which don't appear on a Moog Satellite. The sonic options available are vast, with banks of switches, buttons, and sliders to shape both the combo organ and Moog circuitry. The Moog bass signal can also be accessed on the lower manual and blended with the organ, and the combo organ even has a full percussion bank.

Pics of the inside below. Video demo in the listing previously posted here.

From the listing: "Here it is! That elusive beast, the White Elephant! If you don't know, this was produced in the mid 1970s as a joint venture between Moog and Cordovox, an organ manufacturer. The result is a massive instrument that combines an Italian-sounding combo organ and a Moog Satellite synthesizer. Plenty of information out there, so I'll say no more about the history.

This is a project, and one I have no time for. The organ section works well. All of the footage sliders function as they should. All keys on both manuals trigger.

The Moog section does not currently produce sound. Could be something as simple as a loose connector, could be something more. I have no idea. All boards and parts do seem to be present inside and in decent shape."

"Overall good working shape, ready for years of life left for a new owner. Includes the feet/screws. Missing a few knobs but I think they’re in storage I will update when I find them. No Cracks or damage. This is a vintage synth, so like other other electronics from decades ago it will have some imperfections in sound and function even though it works properly. To reach maximum potential it should be tuned up by a professional, as this has been sitting in climate controlled storage for years."

MOOG White Elephant CDX-0652 Cordovox Organ Demo

Published on Nov 21, 2010 PunchandJudyDuo

"Demo video of the Cordovox CDX-0652 Moog 'White Elephant' keyboard. This is an Italian combo organ manufactured by the Thomas Organ company in 1975. Thomas licensed the Moog Satellite and grafted it into the top tier of the organ. The monophonic synth and the organ can be used independently or together on the top tier and the bottom tier organ can also be split with a Moog bass on the left. We have enjoyed many keyboard demos on YouTube and thought that we should post this since there aren't many others... ***Be sure to watch our other videos to see the White Elephant and other keyboards in LIVE action!*** [For your copy of the debut CD by The Show FEATURING THIS KEYBOARD send $10 and a return address to: The Show P.O. Box 426 Enon OH 45323. Please make checks and money orders payable to Jessica Kinzer.] Thanks!"

"The original white cover is missing, also the metal legs. The organ portion works (makes noise). All keys seem to function, the slides all move freely. The MOOG top slides are missing their plastic knobs. The MOOG portion (upper keyboard) also make noise and the flip switches on the top panel all move freely. Once again, it turns on and plays normally...for how long is anyone's guess."

MOOG Cordovox White Elephant

Some details:
"Moog Cordovox White Elephant Electric Organ, model CDX-0652. I believe that these were made from 1975-79.

from Synthmuseum.com:

The Moog Satellite was designed to be an organ player's synth. It was manufactured by the Thomas Organ Company, who paid a large royalty to be allowed to manufacture the Satellite for Moog. In return they were allowed to incorporate the Satellite into their organs. Thomas Organ Company also, along with Cordovox, designed the Moog CDX.

The Moog CDX is basically a Cordovox organ with a built in Satellite monosynth. It is the only organ product that bears the Moog name prominently across the front. Somewhat rare in the US, they seem to be in plentiful supply in parts of europe.

from combo-organ.com: CDX-0652

A dual-manual combo organ with a Moog Satellite grafted onto it. I understand that the Satellite had a very thin sound, nothing like the MiniMoog. It had only a single oscillator and several preset sounds, similar to other semi-preset synths like the Arp Pro Soloist and the Roland SH-2000.

Thomas bought the rights to the Satellite from Moog. The CDX-0652 was designed by Thomas in cooperation with Cordovox. A Thomas version of the Satellite (the "Synthi 1055) and the CDX-0652 were both manufactured by EME, the same outfit that made most Italian Vox organs. Thomas also marketed the Satellite under the "Orbit" name on some of their home organs.

The synthesizer voices play only on the upper manual, organ voices play on both. Organ and synth voices may be played simultaneously on the upper manual. It includes a batch of 9 preset synthesizer voices that don't appear on a Satellite. Unlike the 0642, this one seems to have all of the organ features (many of which seem identical to the 0642) available on both keyboards.
