Somewhere Over The Rainbow on Solo Continuum

video upload by JOSH MADOFF

"Headphones/Speakers recommended (Super Dynamic Sound)"

"I really wanted to explore what is possible when treating the amazing Haken Contiuum as a solo instrument. The range of dynamics and expression it is capable of is unbelievable.

In this performance, I demonstrate several techniques that are only possible to play on a Continuum. I find it especially inspiring when I find harmonies that normally only work when they are spread across an entire orchestra, yet they work beautifully on the Continuum.

There is no other solo instrument on earth that can achieve many of these sounds!

Headphones or speakers are highly recommended. The dynamics and frequency range of this performance are way too broad and detailed for a cellphone.

Continuum voice on the Onde

video upload by La Voix Du Luthier

"Short demonstration of a user defined audio analysis played from a Continuum on an Onde from La Voix du Luthier (audio recording: you can hear the friction noise on the Continuum surface ;-) ).

The original audio sample that was analyzed was kindly provided by Deep Forest (can you guess what song it is coming from ?). It was analyzed with the tools we are currently working on at Haken Audio (demonstrated at last Superbooth) and played realtime as an additive set by the Eagan Matrix (synth engine of the Continuum, also shared with Expressive-E Osmose). Only a very small part of the analysis is used here.

The left hand (that you barely can see) is on an Osmose...

Haken Audio - EaganMatrix Module - Testing Processor Presets

video upload by EaganMatrix Programming

"The HakenAudio Eurorack EaganMatrix module is not only a CV and MPE midi controlled physical modelling synth (supporting many other sound generation models) but also can function as a DSP audio processor. The Module comes with a number of Audio Processing presets in the 'Processor' category that you send Audio to through the L/R Audio input ports. These range from reverb and delays to Karplus Strong and FeedBack Network Delay processing options (many more options will likely be available in future releases and you can easily create your own in the EaganMatrix (certainly a heck of a lot easier than writing your own DSP processing code).

I thought I'd test them all using a filtered, envelope generator shaped noise pulse (which is ideal for some of the Karplus and Delay network examples). Some of them don't do much on a short noise pulse so at the end I run them on constant filtered noise as well.

No talking on this one. Just stepping through the presets sending the noise pulses and then playing with some of the Macro Controls that change various parameters of them in real time - which you can do from the module with the Rotary or through the Haken Editor or using a Midi Controller. But this test is all CV and Audio controlled."

EaganMatrix Colour Delay

video upload by HakenAudio

"A single EaganMatrix preset showing one thought out audio processing possibility with the EaganMatrix eurorack module. A mBiraski kalimba is used as the sound source. The EaganMatrix module is the only module used on the audio path. EaganMatrix bespoke controls i, ii, iii, and iv are controlling Time Offset, Tonal Colour, Delay Time, and Delay Feedback, respectively. The mBiraski audio source is captured, looped, sonically altered both destructively and non-destructively, and converted to stereo space through the application of morphable convolution body responses, all within the EaganMatrix module. All external control is through control voltage input from third party sources, documented in the signal flow diagram on the left of the video."

Haken Audio Introduces EaganMatrix Eurorack Module

EaganMatrix Eurorack Module bagpipe-like demo video upload by HakenAudio

"Edmund Eagan patched together this bagpipe-like sound in our hut at Superbooth21. The sound is made by the EaganMatrix module, with notes coming from both the keyboard (via usb-midi connection) and the ContinuuMini (via Evaton micoCVC connection), and control input from MakeNoise Math module."

via Haken Audio

Integrate the power of EaganMatrix Sound Technology into your Eurorack! The EaganMatrix Module is a full-featured EaganMatrix Sound Engine for Eurorack, and can be controlled by control voltages and/or Midi. This versatile module can act as a sound source, a sound processor, a CV source (via connection to an external Control Voltage Converter), a Midi source, or a customizable combination of all these capabilities.

The EaganMatrix Module provides a truly versatile framework for both studio and live performance. Flexibility is key, due to its audio inputs and outputs, integrated CV inputs, external CV outputs (via Control Voltage Converter), and robust implementation of MPE and MPE+ Midi.

A single EaganMatrix Preset can give completely different sonic results, depending on how it is patched into a particular Eurorack ecosystem. Hundreds of System Presets are included with the EaganMatrix Module. In addition, an external cross-platform (Mac and PC) Haken Editor may be connected to modify and customize the supplied EaganMatrix System Presets, or create completely new presets from scratch.

The EaganMatrix Sound Technology, originally created for the gesturally highly sensitive Continuum, is now available to you in a Eurorack module. The EaganMatrix Module will quickly become a 'goto' component in your modular sound design and sonic composition.

"ContinuuCon, the First Continuum Fingerboard Conference took place June 9–11, 2016, at the Altamont Theatre in Asheville, NC.

Performers, sound designers, composers and electronic music enthusiasts who attended ContinuuCon explored this uniquely expressive instrument through concerts, workshops, lectures and more. Dr. Lippold Haken, inventor of the Continuum, and Edmund Eagan, developer of the Continuum’s synthesis engine EaganMatrix, were among those sharing their knowledge and musical talents.

With sponsors including the Bob Moog Foundation and modular synthesizer manufacturer Make Noise, the event opened with a reception at the Make Noise factory and included an evening concert, and a dinner (with multiple jam sessions) at Streamside.

Continuum Fingerboard Edmund Eagan Intervew Superbooth 16

Continuum: http://www.hakenaudio.com

I had the opportunity to have a talk with Edmund Eagan, the extraordinary sound designer, and really the "ears" of Haken Audio. We talked about new features of the Continuum Fingerboard engine, also touching upon what makes the Continuum feel so "real", and the importance and vurtue in practising playing an instrument to improve your skills. Also in the end I tried to film Ed's hands when he's performing, with a long lens (although a bit shaky) so that you can all see the subtle level of pressure required to play the Continuum."
