"Gives wonderful 303 style lines in a very experimental and fun way. Comes with 8 banana cables and non-original 9 volt power suppy.
---
Liquid Foam is a modular monophonic analog groovebox that revolves around a dual sequencer designed to encourage complex pattern exploration.

By making connections with banana-type patch cables it can generate anything from straightforward 4/4 loops to ever-changing byzantine synth lines, off-key tantrums and organic percussive phrases.

At the core there’s an analog VCO with two stages of waveshaping, a decay-only EG that can be inverted any step, a 2-pole resonant low pass VCF and a CMOS-based final overdrive stage.

Liquid Foam can sync with virtually any other machine via its clock input mini jack and it sends a 5v clock out/through pulse for further syncing and chaining."

What makes a good synth? // Herbs and Stones // Gianluca Herbertson

video upload by

"Disregard the convention in the search for playfulness - probably good advice for anyone who's looking to innovate. In particular with instruments, where playfulness is key to inspiration, prioritizing the experience over the 'perfect sound' might lead to happy accidents.

Gentle Wham and his older sister (or brother, however you wanna see it) Liquid Foam, are both quite special in that sense. Their sound is gritty and surprizing and their visual style, typography and icons reflect a bold artistic vision that does not conform.

Gian, from Herbs and Stones, started tinkering with electronics at an early age. But it was only recently that he has taken the step to make his own instruments.

In this conversation, we go through the various prototypes that lead to Liquid Foam. We touch on an unreleased filter 👀, and end with his latest creation - Gentle Wham!"

"Unique synthesizer / Sequencer. This is an incredible piece of Musical Technology. It's call the Lorre-Mill Double Knot V2. Comes with 7 Banana Cables (good quality ones too), Original Box, Power Adapter, Printed Manual & Unit. Start using right out of the box. If you never owned one of these before, then your in for a Sonic Shock as you Patch & tweak the 2 Sequencers on board.

You may be asking what is this?

Well the Double Knot is a Semi-Modular synthesizer/Sequencer & is a collection of some analog blocks and simple digital logic blocks to construct Electronic sound patterns. The interface is made up of knobs, switches, and banana plugs for patching. Inside the Double Knot synthesizer there are two voices.

Each voice consists of a Triangle/Square wave oscillator, a shift register sequencer, an enveloper and a voltage controlled amplifier. To set the tempo of the shift registers there is a clock. Functional blocks associated with the clock are an XOR gate and a binary counter. One of the aims of this design is to provide the most flexibility while still having some shape to the piece. The envelopers are triggered by the shift registers unless the trigger inputs are used. The triangle outputs of the oscillators are fed to voltage controlled amplifiers. This makes the Double Knot semi-modular. This system can be used to make complex textural sounds and FM Drones, or Techno Drums at Polyrhythmic Intervals.

This is the V2 version which has enhanced and newer features such as newer enveloper design with mode switch to set trigger mode, loop mode or off. wide range cv input can nearly halt envelope mid-decay for sample/hold type output. trigger input in lieu of the fill input from the previous model.

The shift registers on this unit are CD4015 with 4 bit R2R DAC on the first four stages and logic outputs on the last four stages

Also to add to the percussive effect we can shape the envelopers by feeding the outputs back to the CV inputs and then tweaking the knobs to get the shape to a more dramatic slope. ● Lengthen the decay by turning the decay knob counter-clockwise and add positive modulation by turning the CV level knob clockwise. Now you are bouncing.

One amazing Feature on this unit is the FM Modulation. The FM section allows easy modulation of one oscillator to the other or both at the same time. with a knob for FM amount, a CV in jack that allows control of FM index and a toggle switch to set the modulation routing

This is indeed an amazing piece of Technology. I truly enjoyed this and will miss it a lot. I have a few Youtube Videos so feel free to browse my more recent Videos. just go to youtube and type in the search engine rhampton1914 and my latest is there. An open box Video is on this link."

Molten Music Monthly - April 2020 - Superbooth Special

Published on Apr 30, 2020 Molten Music Technology

"It's been Superbooth 2020 Home Edition and there's too much stuff. Not all of it was new but we had unprecedented detail in awesome live streams about a load of modules and synth. Including my own live stream interviews with synth related people who fascinate me. There are lots to get through and this is just the stuff that I liked in particular - there are loads of things I didn't have space for.

Erica Synths goes nuclear, ST Modular releases 1000 DIY modules, Ritual Modular gets into 1U, 1010music gives us a mini sampler, Befaco does a mini VCMC, Expert Sleepers gives us double the trouble, Bastl loops MIDI, Liquid Foam is a very cool box, Tangible Waves lets us all build modules, Strokes 2 is a mad software groove machine, TiNRS has a Covid kick drum module, Future Sound Systems has a complex VCO, Noodlebox is a thing, Critter and Guitaris does video, There's a whole synth in KOSMO format, Elk Audio OS does something interesting, and there's a shed load of stereo filters. But first, Distrokid.

TB-303 from another dimension: Herbs and Stones Liquid Foam

Published on Jan 9, 2020 HAINBACH

"In which I demo, review and make music with the Liquid Foam by Herbs and Stones from Italy. This little banana patchable synth feels like a parallel universe Roland TB-303 - squelchy, full-sounding and with a unique sequencer. Its left-field but likes to dance, and has constant good suggestions on how to do so. It has its quirks and is certainly not perfect, but its bold and beautiful and I am happy it exists."

Playing live with nuclear instruments and unknown synths

Published on Dec 16, 2019 HAINBACH

Some new gear in the second half of the video includes the Herbs and Stones Liquid Foam and the Neon Egg Planetarium (demos below).

"In which I play an improvised live show with a setup that is new and barely rehearsed.

Usually when I play live, I like to work with the setup I have had for the past three years. In fact, the reason for this channel was that I needed an audience to get better at improvising on my instruments, the camera became an important tool to get good it. But after five weeks of doing art projects, theatre soundtracks and live performances I was burned out. So I decided to play myself a little bit - I choose a completely new setup. Only the Plumbutter was with me on stage before, the rest, including FX and mixer, are studio pieces. Some, such as the Boxcar I had never used in that function before, and one synth had just arrived that day. I did not even know if I could safely travel with the nuclear instrumentation modular rack, without it breaking. The excitement of trying something new helped break the block I felt and I had a good time at the show.

Neon Egg Planetarium - Sidechain Compressor, Reverb, Delay, Chorus

Published on Feb 8, 2019 NEON EGG

"This is the Planetarium from Neon Egg.

It's a stereo reverb and chorus, running into a delay (with stereo modulation) which then runs into a compressor (with external sidechain).

Create beautiful tapey wobbly reverb tails from any instrument, then sidechain it live to a drummer (or anything else) without needing a computer or click track."
