Introducing the Sequential Prophet-10 Special Edition

Press release follows:

San Francisco, CA – [October, 22nd, 2024] – As part of the 50 Years of Sequential celebration, the renowned synthesizer company proudly announces the launch of the Prophet-10 Special Edition, a tribute to half a century of groundbreaking innovation in analog synthesis. This exclusive edition, with only 150 made, features exquisite lacewood panels that make each instrument a unique masterpiece.

The All-Natural Elegance of Lacewood
While the electronics are identical to the existing Prophet-10 Rev4, the Special Edition is distinguished by its stunning lacewood panels. Sourced from the lush forests of South America, lacewood is celebrated for its intricate grain patterns that create beautiful and varied designs. This exceptional wood not only enhances the visual allure of the Prophet-10 but also honors the long-held tradition of using fine woods in classic analog instruments.

A Collector's Dream
With only 150 in existence, the Prophet-10 Special Edition is a rare opportunity for discerning collectors. Each synthesizer comes with a certificate of authenticity, recording its specific serial number, and an embroidered dust cover, ensuring that this piece of musical history is preserved in pristine condition for decades to come.

The Return of a Legend
The Prophet-10 is Dave Smith’s ten-voice version of the analog poly synth that revolutionized the music world. Known for its warm, organic, and dynamic sound, the Prophet-10 combines all three revisions of the legendary Prophet-5 synth — Rev1, Rev2, and Rev3 — with a Rev switch that allows users to choose between the two distinct filter designs. The Prophet-10 Special Edition also includes the Vintage knob to fine tune instrument’s character, Poly Mod for wide timbral flexibility, and velocity sensitivity and aftertouch for new levels of expression beyond the 1970s Prophets, making it as versatile as it is powerful.

Experience the Prophet-10 Special Edition
Sequential invites professional musicians, collectors, and dedicated synth enthusiasts to experience the Prophet-10 Special Edition. This deeply organic lacewood edition is more than an instrument; it's a piece of history, a testament to Sequential's unwavering commitment to creating inspiring instruments for generations of artists.

Knight Dream // Synth Jam feat Sequential PRO 3 + Korg minologue XD + Access Virus TI

video upload by Sounds of Synth

"A synth Jam for the hardware jams challenge. Create some music to accompany a fantasy story / dream.

The story in full :

You awake, its early morning and the garden is full of cool mist. You stand up and consider your options, you notice another gate to your right through some trees and remembering the family is away this weekend you decide to go through the woods to the other gate. The gate is unlocked and walking through you now seem to be in some sort of castle turret. From a nook on your right an old man appears and he points at a large fish bowl. In the fish bowl there are two kittens, they are swimming in opposite directions and bump heads when they meet, the one crys when they bump, the other you notice has a blindfold on. You point to the one with blindfold and the man smiles and hands you the kitten. You take its blindfold off and gently place it on the stairs to your left and urge it with a friendly stroke to go up them. The man then points to the stair case on the right which you then climb. You find yourself at the top of the turret with two large wooden doors infront of you, and you wait for what seems like hours. Then you notice a large black panther on a balcony above to your left.....your heart starts beating twice the speed. The panther leaps down on you and gently licks your face, and you realise this is the kitten you chose. He gently walks to your right and sits down, and as you look at your new best friend you notice he has armour on, and then notice indeed you are holding a golden spier and are too dressed in armour. There is a creak as the doors begin to open, you know this going to be the start of something .....you look at your friend again glady trusting and knowing each other, then gaze forward watching as doors unfold to reveal a new world.

"Using the Make Noise Rene as a traditional sequencer, outs to Tip Top audio Z3000 Mk I and II smart osc.. One Z3000 out is straight sine wave out to the mixer from the QMMG - Format jumbler with Hall effect. Second Z3000 is getting passed through the Korg Kaoss pad and is kind of sounding like vocal phenomes. Second sequence from the Casio SK-1 with a flute patch, recorded using the internal memory and auto play.

OK, so I have had this little melodic sequence running through my head since the Christmas / New Years Holiday Season and I spent two days and many hours on Rene dialing it in to what was running in my head. It wasn't until I was watching this video after I made it that it clicked where I got the melody from. I was playing with my NDS over the Holidays and was into Professor Leighton's Curious Village (great game BTW) and this is kind of similiar to the backround music in the game. I wasn't trying to re-create the music as it was in my head and I had not played the game in a few weeks since. It is kind of creepy and dark and makes me think of strolling a path in the woods and hearing strange things that creep you out.

Special appearance from the cow who jumped the Moon. Enjoy."

The Monument - live ambient music in the woods with Nigel Rippon on gyil (West African xylophone)

video upload by drone-in-the-woods

Half an hour before this session it was pouring with rain, but it was the last day of the storms down South and we sheltered from the receding winds on the side of the hill.
This was the first of three tracks recorded during that session, and you can see and hear the wind in the trees above us whilst Nigel improvises flowing patterns on his gyil overtop of the track that I started writing in my last video.

Electribe 2 | Ambient IV (In the Woods)

Published on Jul 20, 2015 r beny

"Ambient jam on the Korg Electribe 2 in the woods. I find a lot musical inspiration in nature and decided to take the E2 on a hike. The ability to run the E2 on batteries is a boon. Also took a field recording of the area I was in and added it to this track, because why not?

Didn't have a tripod so the camera angle is less than desirable, but I liked what I got. Planning some more nature jams in the future."

BIG UP TO JOHNNY GODDARD for MAKING this vid!"

Sam Battle, aka LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER closes out the year with his cathartic new single Time Is Not A Healer It’s A Fuel for Resentment. The latest release from the renowned musician, innovator and maker is an upbeat melancholic indie ballad that finds him at his most contemplative.

"This is a song I have been humming for a while, I initially made up the riff when making the furby organ, and played it in the furby organ video but to me it was always this song I was playing. I wrote it in a lonely place in me life, no idea what it’s actually about but I have my ideas haha! Only sad times you can write tunes like this I think! I made it on my home made synth and an

old analog polyphonic synth to make it fit with my other tunes even though this one is a tad more on the emotional end of it all."

Speaking about the accompanying video, Sam says:

"We went to the woods at sunrise but we just missed it because I spent an hour in the morning trying to figure out a bow tie. We shot it to make it look as believable as we could it being a low budget music video from 1986 including power stances and arm waves. All the good stuff"

Dog in the woods

Published on Feb 6, 2017 Jörg Schaaf

"I shot this video with the little campark 4K UHD extreme camera (ACT73R) with 60 frames/second 1080p. The footage has been edited in Final cut Pro. In most cases I added some coloring with the sepia filter plugin. Sounds are mainly from the Radikal Technologies Accelerator, RT-311 swarm oscillator, RT-451 multimode filter and the strymon timeline. The track has been published last year in summer for the first time and had a different name in the beginning. It was called "homage to the strymon timeline delay". In this video I did some doggy overdubs and added some complex pad work at the very end. BTW.: For the close to ground and tree detail footage I used a simple selfie stick ;-)"

Synthwood Custom Prophet T8

"A little history: This was the last Prophet T8 made by Sequential Circuits. There was no wooden keyboard made for it and it was either given or sold to an SCI employee.

Later the case was taken to a machine shop where the front end was rip sawed off and the wheels were placed inside of the case. It was necessary to keep the wheels plugged in so that the modulation section would work properly. If you have a T8 with a keyboard that is far beyond repair, this can be done for you."

Title link takes you to more shots on Synthwood. Reminds me a bit of the Rhodes Chroma Expander.

Synthwood specializes in:
Synthesizer Woodworking
Specializing in replacement wood parts for Classic Analogue Synthesizers
Custom design for modular synth cabinets, cases, side or end bells and conversions and modifications
Beautiful and exotic woods: Koa, Mahogany, Black Walnut, English Chestnut, Maple and more
Tasteful finishes (French polish, Linseed Oiling and blends)
Tapered black stainless finishing screws included

Update via Stephen in the comments:
"I've got an update for this. John Bowen confirmed that my T-8 was used on the bench at Sequential and that Stanley Jungleib ended up with it during the Yamaha liquidation. Stanley sold it to person in the Bay Area who then sold it to a friend of mine in 1989. I had known about the 'keyboardless T-8' since 1992 and eventually coaxed my friend into selling it to me just last year. My father finished the case earlier this spring and I updated the ROMs to rev 3.8 (they were 3.7)."

Tales from the Hedge no.2 (as dusk falls mix) 2 synth ambient jam with Roland Sh-01 Gaia and SH-101

video upload by drone-in-the-woods

"A little piece I recorded for the Hardware Jams weekend challenge - two box jam.
After all the gorgeous sunshine, it was raining on the day I had some time free for jamming in the woods. I waited and waited until it finally stopped and I managed to get a relatively dry session in as the sun set and dusk fell.
I missed getting footage of the small herd of 6 fallow deer that were my audience for my practice takes, they moved on as the mist came in across the field.

minima in the woods

Published on Nov 26, 2016 Matthew Tyas

"An improvised performance using a Striso board as controller and an Axoloti as sound source and effects"

Some info on the The Striso as a stand alone instrument. You'll find some videos on their site.

"The Striso is an entirely new musical instrument. It is intuitive to play, has its own distinct and very versatile sound, and combines the possibilities of electronic with the experience of an acoustic instrument. It is small enough to easily take with you, and you can play everywhere you want.

The base of the Striso is a field of small yet powerful buttons that are sensitive in all directions. They let you control the subtle properties of the sound of each note independently. Additionally, you can add accents and sound effects by shaking and moving the Striso. Together this creates enormous possibilities for musical expression.

The intuitive and systematic arrangement of the buttons makes you comprehend musical patterns, as all intervals, chords and scales have the same shape in every key. This lets you play in all keys with the same ease. Read more about the note layout at DCompose note layout.

The Striso is designed to keep you connected with the music you’re playing, whether you want to play lively folk melodies, complex jazz progressions, diverse world music, experimental microtonal compositions or anything else."

DSI Poly Evolver Tracks by Mason Chrysler

Playlist:

1. DSI Poly Evolver Multitrack - Spring Awaits
This is a short track made using only the Dave Smith Instruments / Sequential Poly Evolver Keyboard recorded into Logic Pro X. For this example, no further processing was applied - pure Poly Evolver.
2. Windchimes & Evolvers // Feeding Windchime to a Droning DSI Poly Evolver
This is a single droning patch with some slight improvisation on the Dave Smith Instruments Poly Evolver Keyboard. The external inputs are being fed a recording of some beautiful windchimes. This was recorded into Logic and I slightly rolled off the high end with eq. The video was recorded by myself. The Poly Evolver experiments continue!
3. Poly Evolver Patch 01.23.21 - LFOuterspace01
Here's another fun patch on the PEK that's a little rough around the edges as well. Full patch demo yet to come!
4. Poly Evolver Patch 01.17.21 - CrankTheMagicWheel

5. Not out of the Woods Yet | Multitrack Demo on the DSI/Sequential Poly Evolver
This is a multitrack recording demonstrating sounds from the Dave Smith Instruments / Sequential Poly Evolver. All sounds are from the PEK recorded into Logic Pro X, with the exception of 1 field recording of quiet forest ambience recorded at the scene of the video in the woods (Field recording is not processed by the PEK in this one. Video & audio recorded separately). Some EQ, compression, delay, & reverb were applied in Logic.

Ambient drone jam across the South Downs via modulated light beam with SH101 Crave MC101 birdsong

video upload by drone-in-the-woods

"Original drone jam in Brandy Hole woods with SH101 and Crave. The Crave was triggered using the 101's internal sequencer and this was the recording with all the birdsong.

The audio from this session was then transmitted the following day, via light, from Butser Hill to the Trundle, 12 miles away. The audio modulates the intensity of a bright red LED and a lens is used to form a beam. The white flashing light on the Trundle is the locator for the LED transmitter, once the LED is pointing towards the white light, the scope is used to align the receiver's photo diode. The output from the photo diode is then converted to audio and played through the Cube. This was recorded live with additional sounds from the MC101.

Future plan is to build a couple of two-way transmitters/receivers, so that light-speed communication can be established between the hilltops. Greater distances are being tested too.

Roland SH101-SH32 loop jam, analogue vs digital synthesisers in the forest. A hedgehop video remix

video upload by drone-in-the-woods

"Dragged out the SH32 again, this time I looped it to make use of different sounds and it's drum samples. Got a bit stuck in a groove in the windy hollow and after a failed attempt at recording a live overdub, I decided to layer the drums and bass to beef up the sound a bit.
The video overdub is from the Draca Caves in Mallorca 17th July 2023.

Tales From the Hedge No.3 - acid hedge-hop in the forest with no snow! Synths outside: MC101 TD3

video upload by drone-in-the-woods

"Thought I'd try to get a video with some snow falling but whilst the rest of the country received a dusting, here on the South Downs it just rained. It was so warm that I could play without gloves on!
This was my rehearsal take but as you can hear at the end, it had started to rain and so this is what I got before packing up :)

I'm running the 101 through the looper so that I can record parts into it, freeing up tracks on the 101 for other parts, whilst also getting to use the reverse feature.

Oh and nearly forgot...the small mound at the end of the video is a tumulus - a small barrow probably linked to the iron-age hill fort on the Trundle close by.

To Be Expected (1974)

YouTube via herowouters — May 07, 2010 — "'To Be Expected' (1974) was the end-result of a whole series of movies: Psyche, Middeleeuwse Film, A Boy's Ballad, Difficult Meeting in White Dress and more. All of them with the same subject: two people in a park or wood, standing, looking, having no physical or mental relation that can be clearly decided upon.
To Be Expected features Hannah van Boeschoten and Jan Lemair, and the title seems to point at the inevitable demise of their, already fragile, relationship.
The original soundtrack consists of the composition "Welcome Home, Satansboleet" opus 100 (1974), created with an EMS VCS 3 (the Synthi-A). A satansboleet, by the way, is a highly poisonous toadstool...
Hero Wouters-movie number 41."

A Boy's Ballad (1973)

"herowouters — May 07, 2010 — "A Boy's Ballad" (1973, Hero Wouters-movie 26). Featuring Gerard Stafleu and Jan Lemair. Improvised perfeormances on two saturdays in the woods near Zeist (The Netherlands). Used music: "As Long as we are Happy" (opus 161, 1978), a bizarre mix of electronics (EMS VCS 3), a sax and a string-instrument that looked primarily like a typewriter, called a "mexican banjo". When you like the sound of it, don't miss the soundtrack of "De Nagul verkoolt zienderogen" (1972, HW-movie number 10)."

Psyche (1972)

"herowouters — April 18, 2009 — "Psyche" came forth from the irresistable urge to walk around in a park with a potted plant. Gerard Stafleu was very good at it, but the film was missing something: the female element. So Hannah van Boeschoten was added to park and movie. Used music: D 50 opus 464 (2005). Hero Wouters Movie nr 16 (1972). See http://www.herowouters.nl"

Middeleeuwse Film (1972)

"herowouters — March 04, 2009 — "Middeleeuwse Film" (or "Mediaeval Movie") has something to do with the eternal (and not just mediaeval) confrontation between man and woman. What do you want from me?
With Hannah van Boeschoten and Hero Wouters, camera Gerard Stafleu. Used music: "Golven over de Afluitdijk, opus 257" (1983). Hero Wouters Movie number 17 (1972). See http://www.herowouters.nl."
