Small rhythm generators - instant gratification test

video upload by John Schussler

"There are a metric ton of rhythm generating modules in Eurorack. I have a few of them. My goal in this video is to look at the instant gratification level the modules in this group provide. Some of them are significantly more complicated than others, but all are 10hp or less.

It's not a feature-to-feature comparison, since some are Euclidian and several are not. It's really a 'how hard is it to hear something good come out' kinda deal, without having to study and elaborate manual. Yes, one should RTFM, but on the other hand it's a sign of good design when the interface is so intuitive you don't need the manual.

The drums are an MSW SY0.5, a WMD Kraken, and a WMD Chimera.

Generative Eurorack Drum Tips for Making Fun Messy Drums

video upload by Perfect Circuit

"In this video Wes brings in his personal eurorack case to show off some interesting uses for random utility modules such as the Bastl Kompas and how to easily patch up generative drums.
Generative patches are characterized by their ability to generate new rhythms and melodies based on feedback from other modules or sources of modulation. They're a great way to practice patching in different methods, as well as a fun way to find unique sounds and sweet-spots.

Kompas & Tom Leclerc - Study of Getting Lost and Finding The Way Back (Petit Bois)

video by Bastl Instruments

"Marbles as thinking head and clocking Kompas, Kompas triggering Skis and Seed from Beads Rings, Plaits and Tides as sound sources. Tides is envelopped by Skis and a doepfer VCA. Plaits filtred by Ripples and processed by Beads. Rings and Tides processed by Clouds"

Stziopa x Bastl: Kompas

Published on Sep 26, 2019 Bastl Instruments

"Kompas is a three-coordinate probabilistic pattern navigator. Each coordinate has a unique travelling pace and a dedicated trigger output. The amount of probability can be adjusted manually or by external voltages. Once a coordinate has been adjusted, a new pattern is generated and looped until the next change of direction.

this tool is the outcome of the environment we are in
and is inspired by non-linear approach to music and life – don't build any expectations, choose your direction and discover new paths

Unlike common probability operation, instead of filtering a pre-determined sequence, Kompas uses probability to generate new looping patterns based on the direction you choose.

Features
global clock and reset input
3 x 32 step pattern generators with travelling algorithms
3 CV inputs for coordinate modulation
3 trigger outputs
2/5/10ms selectable trigger length (via boot settings)
DIY and hacker friendly Arduino programmable hardware
open-source schematics and code
includes a printed fanzine with navigation topics
available also as a DIY soldering and coding workshop"

Kompas wes first introduced in May for SUPERBOOTH 2019.
