With significant new functions and many improvements, Firmware 2.0 offers more sonic and functional versatility for creative musicians and sound designers alike. At the same time, a new release of the free MODALapp 2.5.0 becomes available for all supporting platforms, including macOS, Windows, iOS, iPadOS and Android, while the MODALapp plugin for AU and VST3 compatible DAWs was undergoing a refreshment, too.

With the newly introduced MPE support SKULPT is compatible with MPE controllers. With MPE, every played note can be articulated individually and allows a more expressive performance. Because each MIDI note is assigned to its unique MIDI channel, every MIDI note can receive dedicated MIDI Channel-Expression commands. This feature delivers creative, next-level performance opportunities. SKULPT is now the most affordable MPE polyphonic hardware synth available on the market.

"Modal Electronics Argon 8 is an 8 voice digital wavetable synthesizer with full size keys - although only three octaves.

It shares much of the DNA from the SKULPT, which we also reviewed and enjoyed. Even though it's a digital machine, still capable of some lovely organic sounds.

The Argon 8 shares these characteristics, but with an expanded set of controls, 3 FX generators, up to 512 step sequencer and an arpeggiator, plus the distinctive Modal joystick."

We thought we'd pair it up with the Arturia MicroFreak, stick them both into the Ventris Dual Reverb (a favourite of ours for its routing flexibility and well, the sound)

The Micro Freak is supplying the mono bass sound - has a Chemical Brothers vibe to it we think, and the SKULPT the harmonic pads."
