Ana Modulation Multiplier

video upload by Mystic Circuits

"Another quick patch showing off Ana's many capabilities. This patch shows how to use Ana to turn a single modulation source into multiple modulation signals and control your entire patch with the turn of a knob. Ana is incredible for feedback patching and unlocking the full potential of modules that provide their own modulation signals for self-patching.

This is a much longer demo because I have been having a lot of fun with this module combo as I have been beta testing the Entropic Loops Grackle, an innovative phase modulation oscillator from a new company that is a collaboration of Naomi from Omi Industries and genius programmer Eris. If you would like to know more about this module there will be some information posted to their website soon:

ANA Patch - Voltage to Trigger Sequence Converter

video upload by Mystic Circuits

"Here is a patch where we use Ana to extract a pair of trigger sequences from an incoming voltage sequence using the BOX output. While BOX normally outputs a 3-level square wave involving a positive and negative pulse, we can use a second ANA to invert the BOX signal for our second trigger sequence as most trigger inputs will ignore the negative portion of the signal. This patch can give you some interesting ways to riff on an incoming musical theme either by turning knobs or with incoming modulation. It's also a great example of the advantages of analog logic over digital logic, even when we are expecting gates at our output we are processing continuous voltages and getting useful behavior from it.

I am going to just mention that the editing on this video is a little sloppy, I am doing a lot of experiments with the filming setup as I am figuring out how to streamline filming/ editing/ posting as much as possible. There has been some experimentation with lighting, camera positioning, etc. during this process so I appreciate your patience as we figure this out."

ANA Patch - Voltage Controlled Voltage Processor

video upload by Mystic Circuits

"Here is a simple yet incredibly useful patch that wasn't possible with ANA 1 ~ using ANA 2's MIX output for attenuvert/ offset style voltage processor. Despite not being a revolutionary design, these sorts of processors are often the glue that holds a patch together. When ANA isn't performing other duties it can still be a vanilla utility that enables other modules to really shine.

On top of that, the MIX output gives us the ability to voltage control the knob functions of a normal attenuverter by focusing on the input processing section. Using the multiply input we are able to voltage control our attenuverter and with both addition inputs we can voltage control the offset knob."

ANA 2 Patch Example - Taming Delay Feedback w/ Multimod

video upload by Mystic Circuits

"This patch is a particularly satisfying way to push the boundaries of delay feedback loops without destroying your ears or overwhelming the input. In this case we are using ANA's XOR output as a hard clipper to limit the overall voltage level of a delay feedback loop while also adding in an input signal using the SUM input. This technique allows us to simultaneously amplify a signal while also setting a hard boundary on how loud the signal can get. By using ANA to tame our feedback we are able to get the characteristic "bloom" effect of a high-feedback delay while making sure that we can always hear our input signal and also constantly add new material into the looping delay line. Here we explore this patch with the amazing Make Noise Multimod, also using our 3DVCA module to mix multiple taps together."

ANA 2 Patch Example: Macro Controller

video upload by Mystic Circuits

"This is by far the easiest patch that you can make with your ANA 2 but it is deceptively powerful. With no inputs you can still use the knobs on ANA to send a static voltage into the analog logic circuits. This creates 9 correlated output voltages that are perfect for controlling other modules with lots of CV inputs. Here we have one ANA controlling our landscape NOON and a second ANA controlling a Mutable Instruments Beads ~ 3DVCA combo. Check out our website for more info or to order - we will have a handful of black panel units available on Black Friday!"

ANA 2 - What it Do?

video upload by Mystic Circuits

"Here is our admittedly super long ANA video manual. Doing the overview video for ANA was kind of tough because it is sort of like doing a demo for 9 different modules and they all work in a bunch of different contexts. As a result, we decided to focus this video on the absolute basics of the module to hopefully give you the fundamental understanding needed to use it. There will be another, hopefully shorter, video following this one showing some actual musical patch examples using ANA.

For the written manual and to order go to our website here:

Here is a link to the awesome replacement IDUM panel that I forgot the name of in this video. To be fair "nkurence" is not an easy word to remember:

Mystic Circuits ANA 2 - the ultimate analog logic module

video upload by Mystic Circuits

"ANA 2 is a cross modulation powerhouse that derives nine different analog logic operations in tandem from two input signals. Each input channel features a processing section that attenuverts, adds, or multiplies up to six inputs before being sent to the cross modulation circuits. ANA 2 performs a wide variety of functions including mixing, boolean logic, rectifying, cross-fading, voltage sampling, ring modulating, gate converting, bizarre wave shaping and much more. While you may have seen these functions in individual modules before, ANA 2 combines them all into one place with all of these functions available simultaneously to give you a Swiss army knife utility that is capable of happy accidents.‍"

IDUM RETURNS!

video upload by Mystic Circuits

"At long last IDUM is back! IDUM is our multi-effect processor for gates, allowing anything from a little variation to absolute insanity. Here is a little jam showing off using IDUM's new features - split mode and the improved looper.

We have a two IDUM system here with one controlling the VPME quad drum and a second controlling a set of SSF percussion modules as well as a voice made with the Schlappi Engineering Three Body and Boundary. We are also controlling our Tree/ Leaves combo module which is doing the main sequencing duties. The entire patch is mixed using our 3DVCA modules and our upcoming Ana v2 modules are acting as a macro controller, allowing us to change the whole patch with just four knobs. The main sequencer is the amazing Westlicht Performer.

In this jam I am focusing on showing how much variation you can get out of IDUM without changing the source sequence at all. This means that the same trigger sequence is driving IDUM the entire time and the note sequencer is not changed at all either, all of the variation you hear is either from manipulating IDUM or from changing some of the timbre settings of the drums.

If you would like to learn more about IDUM go to our website here:

https://www.mysticcircuits.com/produc..."

"‍IDUM is a gate processing effect that turns its input effortlessly into IDM. Making complex electronic music with the modular usually requires meticulous sequencing done in advance or a large ecosystem of modules. Unfortunately, the level of expertise needed to accomplish this is not accessible to the average modular user. IDUM aims to make this process easier and put Intelligent Dance Music, also known as IDM, into the hands of people with average intelligence. IDUM does not require much knowledge to get immediate and compelling results; but with some extra familiarity, this module can enable innovative music making techniques. Instead of generating musical patterns on its own, IDUM acts like an effects processor for the sequences that run through it. For example, a filter or a delay allows the user to alter their sound by twisting the knobs or modulating the parameters. Similarly, IDUM manipulates the actual gates and sequences of connected modules, but with a level of playability normally inaccessible to a sequencer. IDUM can vary carefully crafted sequences or turn your music into an onslaught of controlled chaos. Its open source code and hardware based on the beginner friendly Arduino Nano Every encourage users to tweak their modules to taste or to add new features all while ensuring future improvements as IDUM makes its way into the wild."

Superbooth 2023: Mystic Circuits - Audio and Lofi Visual Modules

video upload by sonicstate

"We met up with Ely from Mystic Circuits and he introduced us to their new modules. First we saw the 3D VCA, a quad vca in a 6hp space. Ely told us that they managed to cram it into a smaller space by using macro controls over the VCAs rather than independent controls. This design also offers interesting routing possibilities.

We also got a look at ANA 2, an updated version of their analogue logic module, with an attenuverter, multiplier providing thru-zero multiplication and Cut, which Ely described as a bizarre non linear waveshaper.

3DVCA Shipping June 2023. Price: 225 USD

ANA 2 Available soon. Price TBC"

Mystic Circuits Panels Are Purple Now & Using Ana for Note Sequences

Mystic Circuits

"Here is a little announcement about something we have had in the works for awhile now. All of our modules will have Purple and Silver PCB Panels going forward with limited runs of black panels every once in awhile. Let us know what you think, we hope you like the new panels as much as we do."

Using Ana for Note Sequences
Mystic Circuits

"Today we have another instructional video on how to get the most out of Ana with this episode focusing on how to use Ana to process note sequences. Unlike normal logic processing modules Ana also works with variable voltages which allows us to do all sorts of fun non-linear processes to instantly transform a melody with the twist of a knob. When it comes to note sequences Ana is capable of a lot of handy tricks either processing a single sequence or combining multiple sequences and always providing multiple outputs for quickly manipulating polyphonic note information."

Mystic Circuits ANA Processing Gates and Triggers

Published on May 14, 2020 Mystic Circuits

"We at Mystic Circuits have been hard at work improving the overall quality and style of our videos. Im an engineer, not a Youtuber, so it has been quite a process. Hopefully the work is worth it and the new demos will be more enjoyable and easier to follow.

This demo is on using ANA to process gates and triggers for manipulating rhythms either with the twist of a knob or with voltage control. Unlike most logic processors ANA computes analog logic so variable and negative voltages can also be processed. This adds a ton of flexibility even when processing static unipolar signals like gates and triggers. Many complex logic functions are possible with some creative patching.

For more info on ANA and how it works check out our first ANA demo:" [posted here]

ANA by Mystic Circuits

Published on Aug 21, 2018 Mystic Circuits

"At it’s core, Ana is a collection of ring modulators and other signals based on these ring modulators. Two inputs to Ana yield six outputs, each one a different process of these two inputs. By varying one of the front panel controls, all six outputs are changed simultaneously. If you have been looking for a slim, multi-function device to add both utility and a dose of weirdness to your workflow then Ana is the swiss army knife module for you."

Additional details via Mystic Circuits

"ANA is a utility module comprising six functions that combine two inputs. These functions are:

MIN – compute the minimum of the two input voltages

MAX – compute the maximum of the two input voltages

VCA – compute the XOR, or multiplication the two input voltages

MAG – compute the difference between the two input voltages.

STEP – perform a track and hold based smooth/ stepped process from the two inputs

BOX – perform a bipolar comparator process resulting in a 3 level square wave.
