A Eurorack Mixer that eats big euroracks for lunch. This is XER MIXA - from Noise Engineering

video upload by Rochefsky

"Get to know Xer Mixa - a Eurorack Mixer Module from @NoiseEngineering - This video describes and demonstrates the basics. Consider this module seriously - especially if you have loads of Eurorack Modular voices and you often find yourself limiting how many you use, or sending signals to multiple small sub-mixers first. The workflow with Xer Mixa has changed my whole workflow into a creative one where I can re-mix 16 mono voices into unlimited combinations. AND Great for performance (not that I've performed for anyone but my family and friends ;)

This first patch only covers the basics - showing 16 voices and one stereo effects return (barely - in the jam at the end). For the big rack #eurorack #modularsynth enthusiast, you'll find inspiration in this module... #eurorackmodular #modular #synth

Chapters in this video:
0:00 - Intro
0:22 - Basics
1:00 - Controls
1:52 - hear each voice
6:30 - ALL voices
7:00 - DROP & JAM

Knobcon cinematic techno modular synth performance by POB

video upload by Patrick POB OBrien

"This was my 76th live performance and the best one yet!

Knobcon performance in the Big Room with a metallic and cinematic all-modular techno set, and I loved every second of it.

Big ups to Mike Cameron for the invite to play this year, to Damon / OSC1Nation and Skyler / KittySpit for being so supportive since the beginning of my modular journey, to Nick / Dub Station Zero for being my hype man, to Brandy / Space Racer for mega support, to the Noise Engineering team for getting me to this con to feature the new Xer Mixa and hang with so many great people at the booth, and to Patrick Leonard for being a constant mentor and inspiration.

Squelchy atmospheric modular synth patch w/ Roucha Legio, Quantus Trajecta in Noise Engineering case

video upload by Noise Engineering

"Here's a performance with our Ambassador to the Stars, Patrick O’Brien, featuring an all-Noise Engineering case. While every module has a powerful purpose, the Rouch Legio stereo filter and Quantus Trajecta envelope generator are real standouts.

In this jam, POB says:

“I thought I had a well-written paragraph to describe this patch, but honestly AI said it better:

Prepare to have your senses ignited and your sonic horizons expanded! Brace yourself for a mind-bending journey where Noise Engineering modules venture into uncharted territories of ambient soundscapes. As the intrepid explorer of this audial realm, I relish the exhilarating challenge it presents. Imagine harnessing the raw power of the brassy Loquelic Iteritas, skillfully taming its untamed spirit to create a harmonious symphony of controlled chaos. Feel the pulsating air being forcefully sucked out of the patch as BIA's mighty thumps reverberate through your very being, leaving a trail of awe in their wake. Witness the birth of plucky stereo artifacts, meticulously crafted by the synergistic dance of Tymp Legio and Yester Versio in Octave mode, producing an otherworldly tapestry of sound that defies conventional limits. And when Roucha Legio finds its voice, shaped by the Quantus Trajecta, its resonant squelches become a powerful proclamation that demands attention and admiration. But the true secret behind this captivating mix lies in Librae Legio's masterful dynamics processing, seamlessly fusing all elements into a tightly woven sonic tapestry. Together, these modules paint a vivid sonic landscape filled with dystopian allure, ready to transport you to realms beyond imagination. Prepare to embark on an extraordinary auditory odyssey, where the unexpected becomes the norm and creativity knows no bounds. Are you ready to immerse yourself in this groundbreaking fusion of technology and artistry?

Noise Engineering Clep Diaz Tutorial & Cheat Sheet - Learning & Using the 4hp CV/LFO Generator

video upload by Rochefsky

"Clep Diaz is an incredibly powerful CV + LFO generator eurorack module from Noise Engineering in a very small 4hp package - with simple controls and expressive results to spice up your modular patches. I've created a 1-page cheat sheet for this module, and this video is the companion tutorial to describe the capabilities and operation of Clep Diaz while referring to the cheat sheet.

Find your way quickly to the contents of this video:
0:00 - Intro
0:52 - Modes step, rand, lfo
1:50 - Step order
2:18 - Count Encoder
3:20 - Step & Reset Buttons
3:55 - Clock Input
4:22 - Reset Input
4:33 - CV Input for Count
4:45 - Bi/Uni-Polar Outputs
5:15 - BOC Output
6:00 - Patch Notes
6:38 - Add Reset & CV
9:00 - Jam & Cheat Sheet

The Patch is mostly a @NoiseEngineering jam, with the exception of Pamela's New Workout clocking and providing some modulation to Clep Diaz inputs.
Vox Digitalis - 2 of 'em - provide the pitch CVs to both the bass line and the main voice VCOs.
Clep Diaz of course modulating two VCOs.
Manis Iteritas is the bass line VCO.
Cursus Iteritas Percido is the string-like voice being modulated by Clep Diaz on the TIME and FOLD parameter CV inputs.
Lapsus Os provides some control over the level of the bi- nd Uni-polar outputs of Clep - although I left those alone at base voltage throughout this video/patch.
Electus Versio provides effects.
Mordax Data is my Oscilliscope.

Cheat Sheet for Clep Diaz is here:

Eurorack with cello: An ambient journey featuring Ruina Versio and Electus Versio

video upload by Noise Engineering

"Here's a performance with cellist and NE's Chief Plumber Adam Lange-Pearson, using two Versios in his modular setup for the effects chain.

In this jam, Adam explored several things he found challenging:

Use light distortion (using Ruina Versio in this case) to color the cello sound without losing the, um, cello sound. He often has fun shredding with full-wave rectification cranked, but here he wanted to just add something to support the mood without it being obvious.

Improvise over short sequencer-based repetition. He says he has a lot to learn here, but it’s fun :) For this jam, 0-Ctrl provided rhythm, Horologic Solum was the flexible clock, and Vox Digitalis was the pitch-sequencer. The voice was the ever-versitile Loquelic Iteritas, in pink.

Most of the knob-twiddling is on Ruina Versio and Electus Versio.

There are several ways to get cello audio into the case: Adam played into a large condenser mic plugged into a small mixer (for the phantom power), and ran that into a eurorack receiver module."

Acid Techno Modular Synth Jam with TR-909 and DFAM - Unpatching or How I Patch

video upload by Honeysmack

Timeline below.

"In this video I "unpatch" a little Acid Techno modular rack I've been rocking for a few months. Truth is, I didn't really unpatch, more of a "how I patch" — I walk through and explain how I use modules and their sound/function. This channel is supported by my Patreons, become a member here: https://www.patreon.com/honeysmack

🎛 Focused modular voices 🎛
🔸 Cwejman BLD2 making the 303ish sound
🔸 Noise Engineering Basimilus Iteritas Alter - mad percussion sounds
🔸 Noise Engineering Loquelic Iteritas - lead, bass or rip your head off!
🔸Michigan Synth Works SY0.5 - Pearl Syncussion clone, analog percussion secret weapon.
🔸Endorphines Queen of Pentacles - 909 inspired multi-drum voice module with effects.
🔸Moog DFAM - killer percussion and synth module with onboard 8-step sequencer.

Merely scratching the surface in this video. So strap in and grab a nice coffee or tea. It gets a little long, so perhaps my next unpatching video will dive deeper how I specifically use certain modules. Please feel free to ask!

🕹 The jam I unpatch is available here, with no talking, straight up jam: [posted here]

My modular gear and set-up is in a constant state of flux and I change up my rack every 3 months, thereabouts. That is the beauty of modular synths, you design your own synth. There are no, right or wrong ways to do this, it is all very subjective. Hence, you get an insight to my way of thinking about how I make Techno."

00:00 Intro to the gear, my improvisational approach and sequences
02:04 Audio and MIDI routings
04:09 Module overview
08:21 Intellijel Metropolis - and how I'm not a traditionally trained musician.
12:04 BLD2 focus, that's Bass -Lead & Drum Generator to earth people.
13:54 Add that 909 and jamming
15:05 Basimilus Iteritas Alter - hard to pronounce, best percussion all-rounder
18:10 Loquelic Iteritas - a tale of 2 pitches
22:52 Continue the jam, that's what we came for
24:37 Cockpit2 - mixer module with that sweet side-chain pump
27:33 SY0.5 and Queen of Pentacles, serious percussion investments, shhhhhh don't tell everyone
32:15 Queen of Pentacles, the Queen is very much alive
35:29 I do like to jam, no seriously, I do ask anyone who doesn't know me
36:06 Drummer from another mother or DFAM to you and me!
37:37 Please add 909 to that DFAM, thanks maaaaaaate
39:13 Versio - reverb from the versatile vampire
41:56 Get a little crazy jamming with the reverb
43:43 Outro and thank you

Doepfer Musikelektronik MS 404: Modular at Heart

video upload by rejected synths

"Ah, the 90s! Those were easier days. No Covid, no masks, and sadly also...no 303s!

While this is an issue that has prevailed ever since, back in the 90s, when Techno ruled supreme, this lack of 303s also gave rise to a whole cottage industry of 303 cloners, companies small and tiny, set up to give ravers what they wanted: one of those shiny acid boxes or, a bit later, when techno production became more professionalized, handy 19 inch rack clones that integrated well into a studio setup, complete with midi and controls over parameters.

Dieter Doepfer, possibly best known for fathering the Eurorack standard, also tried his hand in the cloning business, or at least it seemed, because apart from the obvious naming reference, the MS 404 actually has very little to do with a faithful 303 emulation. Doepfer instead went ahead and created a far more capable machine, that can do about 101 things a 303 can‘t, but, ironically, also can‘t really do 303.

In this video, I will show you some of these things, also including this one thing it obviously can‘t.

So lean back and enjoy some fine German engineering!

Tracklist:

0:00 Intro
1:05 Introduction
3:39 Controls and Connectivity
6:50 Demo I: Not quite 303
8:45 Demo II: Noisy
10:35 Demo III: Does it PWM?
12:36 Demo IV: Dual LFO Mayhem
14:49 Demo V: Filter Input
16:32 Demo Jam

RS046.1 Doepfer Musikelektronik MS 404 'No Talking Edition'

RS047 Tech Support: Doepfer MS-404 - Some Simple Mods

video upload by

"As a kid, growing up on shows like A-Team and Mc Gyver, I used to think that, with some knowledge, you could just hack things together, like they did on these shows, building useful gear from junk that happened to be around. This fascination never quite left me and led to me unscrewing broken electronics to have a peek inside, imagining I would be able to build something cool.

But, growing up in the 80s meant there still wasn’t any YouTube or even basic internet around just yet, so the only resources where I could have learned some basic electronics stuff were wildly confusing and much too complicated for me back then, so I resorted to Legos.

Much later, I learned how to (barely) handle a soldering iron and toyed around with some simple electronics projects, collecting some knowledge here and there. So when I finally ended up with the service manual of the MS 404 I knew the time had come to try some synth modding.

The Service Manual didn’t only provide me with schematics but even included some suggestions on how to mod the 404. Even better, during it’s very design, the synth had already been created with expandability/moddability in mind. And because it ain’t no tiny electronics Volca, even my limited soldering skills are suffice to realize some of these modifications.

The first, and probably easiest thing I did, was to tap into multiple jumpers layed out around the board, this way, it’s super easy to add switches for LFO waveform selection and filter envelope behavior.

The second mod is a little more demanding, it’s something I came about when trying to build a tiny crossfade mixer. Utilizing a pot, it’s actually possible, to mix the signals of the saw and square wave VCO outputs, so I did that as well as adding a second pot in order to be able to mix in some noise into the VCO signal, sh101 style.

I’ve tested my ideas thoroughly before going as far as drilling holes into the faceplate, and from what I’ve learned about electronics so far, which isn’t too much to be honest, they should be safe modifications when applied correctly. Still, I just want to make it a 100% sure that I will not take any responsibility when you damage your 404 while applying any of these mods."

Eurorack with cello: A jam featuring Melotus Versio and Imitor Versio

video upload by Noise Engineering

"Here's a performance with cellist and NE's Chief Plumber Adam Lange-Pearson, using two Versios in his modular setup for the effects chain.

Imitor Versio provides chorus and stands in for a reverb, and Melotus Versio gives several kinds of granular delay for creative use. Melotus is patched into Imitor.

It’s fun to improvise into Melotus and to make several voices happen at once."

Modular Iteration ✨

Modular Iteration 1/3 ✨ video upload by Andrea Marzilli

"Finally I had some time to study my newest eurorack system! This video is about some Mutable Instruments Plaits waves heavy modulated by @Qu - Bit Prism and Data Bender, plus some helps from @Noise Engineering Versio. ✨

Wear your headphones for detailed audio. 🎧"

Modular Iteration 2/3 ✨

"So I realized another soundscape with the same system, using different actors.
Here you will find a @Qu - Bit Surface modulated by Mutable Instruments Tides on the @2hp Modular VCA in order to create different envelope rhythms. It goes straight inside the Prism for some filtering and, at the end of its path, the lonely Surface meets a @Noise Engineering Desmodus Versio creating the magic space. ✨
@Arturia Augmented Voices helps me with some basses added in post.

Wear your headphones for bass and detailed audio. 🎧"

Modular Iteration 3/3 ✨

"Here we are! Last jam, I’ll do it short: Mutable Instruments Rings is sequenced by @Qu - Bit Bloom and modulated by Tides. Monsoon is freezing a note coming from Rings and Data Bender is giving aaall the rhythms to the system. @Noise Engineering Desmodus Versio adds the timeless space, as always.

Headphones = details. 🎧"
