Serpens Modular Ara - Sequential Switch Multi-Function Module - Patch from (almost) Scratch Demo

video by Anthurium

"Hey everyone, today's demo is on the Serpens Modular Ara, a really interesting multi-function module. It's primarily a 5-step sequential switch, but gives you a bank of sliders, gate outputs and a clock divider as well.

Did something a little different to my usual demos and opted for a kind of 'patch-from-scratch' video to explore how we can use Ara. It's certainly not comprehensive, there's many many ways you can use sequential switches that are well documented, but hopefully demonstrates what the Ara can bring to your system.

Thanks to Serpens Modular for sending me the Hydrus and Ara to demo, i've been really enjoying them.

The Ara is hand-made in Melbourne, Australia"

ARA-Serpens Modular/Anima and Altar Filter -Ritual Electronics

Dziam Bass

"Hello all.
The last two modules I have opened are the new ARA- sequential switch from Serpens Modular and Anima from Ritual Electronics.
I recorded a small patch with these modules when ARA is as a sequencer and Anima has dual digital VCO and EG and LFO, but I only used one VCO and the other I used envelope.
from another module I added lfo for decay and curves changes so from time to time they change in motion. I added Altar filter also from Ritual which adds character to Anima.
I added Drums from Pico Drums triggered via Pico TRIGG from Erica Synths.
I recommend checking these Serpens and Ritual modules because they give you a lot of possibilities and have great performance.
for me it is a lot of fun but also a lot of possibilities which I discover every time I exceed my thoughts on this module and come out great new sounds and sequences which normally I would not put together without the input of these modules when they go further than I can consciously do.
Thanks for ur time and watching and have a GREAT MODULAR day."

SERPENS MODULAR || Introductory Ara Tutorial ||

Published on Feb 10, 2020 Serpens Modular

"This video is an overview of the Aras core functions and provides examples of basic patches. These will give users an understanding of the key features of the Ara and provide the foundations for more complex patching options that will be covered in future videos."

"Sequential Switch / Sequencer / Voltage Source / Clock Divider

The Ara is a sequential switch on steroids that was designed by us with live performance in mind. At its core it is a 5 step unidirectional sequential switch, allowing users to cycle through 5 different incoming voltages on the slave i/o jacks and send them out in steps via the master i/o jack. It can also be used in reverse, with the master i/o jack becoming the input and the 5 slave i/o jacks becoming outputs for distributing one voltage source to up to 5 destinations in timed steps.

We then decided to take it further and integrate both a clock divider with secondary clock input for self patching and continuous voltage sliders on each step. These are output individually at the top of the module or passed through to the master i/o when no input is present on that step. The voltage range of the sliders can be adjusted to either 0 to 5v or -5 to +5v using the switch at the base of each channel. Without an incoming clock signal, the Ara works as a stand alone bank of 5 voltage faders.

Gate outs are both per step and as a summed output which can be used to trigger envelopes being fed into the Aras slave i/os. With no incoming inputs, voltage sliders and the gate outputs can be used to turn the Ara into a 5 step sequencer. Sequence length can be easily changed by patching a gate step into the reset jack. Any step that is excluded from the sequence then becomes a stand alone continuous voltage source.

Hand made in Melbourne, Australia. Orders ship every Friday afternoon.
