Soundforce µCHORUS 6 + CHORUS 6 / the real juno experience (and a lot more) / extensive playthrough

video upload by BRiES

"This video demonstrates the behaviour of the Soundforce modules µCHORUS 6 and its full sized counterpart CHORUS 6. I also spend some time comparing the sound of the Soundforce modules µDCO, µVCF 6, µCHORUS 6 and CHORUS 6 to my vintage Roland Juno 60 (that I bought about 15 years ago when prices were still a power of ten lower).

When Nicolas of Soundforce asked me if I would be up for making a video about his upcoming Roland Juno inspired chorus modules, I was already excited (it might not be apparent but I'm a huge Juno fanboy) and it's safe to say the µCHORUS 6 delivers when it comes to genuine authenticity. The fact that the big version of his chorus called CHORUS 6 goes far and beyond was something I couldn't really phatom until I tried the unit out. Especially the ability to use audio rate modulation and external CV to modulate just about every parameter turned out to be very interesting indeed.

I use the Soundforce µDCO and µVCF 6 extensively in the video as well. The combo of these modules is very much enjoyable for a fan of 80s era DCO polysynths (even when they're just one mono voice) but they're certainly not limited to sounding like your favourite cheese or Roman goddess."

Superbooth 22: Soundforce - SFC-8 Midi Controller

video upload by sonicstate

"Nikolas from Soundforce introduced us to a prototype of his newest creation - the SFC-8.

SFC-8 is designed as a 1-1 controller for Jupiter 8 plugins, and while the look and feel of the controller closely matches the original, it will work with other plugins and hardware synths as well. When it is available, Nikolas will provide a platform for users to configure all data and messages, adapting the SFC-8 to any software or hardware you throw at it. It will also come with pre-configured templates for various hardware synth, with 20 presets.

We also got a taste of the Micro DCO module, designed after the Juno DCOs with analogue oscillators under digital control and a slimmer design, and the S-LD a Linn drum sample module.

SFC-8 Price and Availability: TBC

Micro DCO Available now. Price 259 euros

S-LD Available now. Price 129 euros."

The Soundforce Dual LFO - Tempo synced goodness!

video upload by Synth Diy Guy

"A nice long exploration of this instant classic!
With cameos from the uVCF6 and the DCO, (which is a digitally controlled oscillator, but the waves are analog! Sorry I called it a digital oscillator!)"

Explore the Chaos: A Clank Chaos Walkthrough

video upload by pitch patch

"Come and join me on a journey to explore Chaos by Clank.

Chaos is a six-channel random generator that can easily be used as a sequencer, modulation generator, clock source, cv pattern generator, voltage recorder, and many other things.

Please find my free Clank Chaos cheat sheet here: https://bit.ly/chaoscheatsheet

You can get further information and the manual here: https://bit.ly/clankchaos

I use 100% raw audio: no preamp, no compression, no effects.
Recorded in Ableton Live 11 using an RME Fireface UCX II.

TIMELINE

Soundforce DCO // Thick & rich analogue oscillator & mixer for Eurorack Modular Synths

Published on Oct 17, 2019 DivKidVideo

"Here we have the DCO Eurorack module from Soundforce. It's an analogue mixer based on DCO technologies of yesterday with a much higher quality modern take on the digital control element of the circuit. We get saw and square waves with lovely PWM and then two subs a noise source a mixed output with sliders to mix and blend the waves onto the mixed output. I've tried to make sure the video demonstrates the sound and functions but also really dive into some more creative and advanced patching for things like layered multiple outputs for fully realised musical pieces and also making a DCO drum kit out of the one oscillator. Skip around with the timing index below and let's chat in the comments.

TIMING INDEX // SECTIONS

00:00 Hello and patch previews

00:51 What is the DCO? Feature run down & sound demo

02:44 DCO in context - analogue subtractive patching with mixed waveforms, noise + subs.

04:09 PWM - Pulse Width Modulation - both “standard” and audio rate.

05:55 Creative layered patching for full musical pieces from one oscillator

08:00 Sync - sync demo and patch

09:14 DCO DRUM KIT! Really love this patch turning the DCO module into 5 percussion parts to build up a modular drum kit.

11:57 FM - you don’t often see FM on DCOs but there’s some interesting noisy character in this.

13:42 Phasing layered drones."

New SoundForce DCO Eurorack Module

SoundForce DCO - short demo video Published on May 6, 2019 SoundForce

"SoundForce introduces a digitally controlled oscillator module for Eurorack

The SoundForce DCO is an oscillator for Eurorack based on the architecture of the Juno-60/106 oscillator section. It is a modern homage to that sound using technology from the future. It provides true analog waveforms with digital stability.

Some tech-talk:
A DCO is not an all-analog VCO but also not a digital oscillator. It’s an hybrid design that combines the best of both. Similarly to some VCO’s, the DCO generates its core waveform, the saw wave, by charging a capacitor in an op-amp integrator configuration. A VCO will restart the waveform cycle when the signal has reached its maximum amplitude. But the DCO starts an new cycle when a micro-controller, a small computer chip, commands it to. The micro-controller also controls the rate at which the capacitor is charging, hence the frequency of the oscillator. As with a digital oscillator, the DCO acquires the CV input voltages and turns them into numbers that will later set the frequency of the oscillator. This is done inside the micro-controller using 16 bits sigma-delta analog to digital converters. All signals are true analog signals: the PULSE wave is derived from the SAW wave using a comparator and the SUB oscillators are generated using a flip-flop IC. Furthermore, the use of a very modern micro-controller with built-in 32 bits timers have improved the frequency accuracy a lot compared to the original design.

If you want to dive deeper in the technicalities of DCOs, check out this video from GOLT! [posted here]

Features:
The SoundForce DCO features 10 slide pots (faders) reminiscent of the vintage Roland synths. 5 sound sources are available: SAW, PULSE, SUB1 (1 octave lower), SUB2 (2 octaves lower) and NOISE. The built-in mixer allows you to mix them together using the faders and the MIX output jack. The PULSE has manual pulse width control, as well as PWM with a CV input and an attenuator. An FM input is also available with an attenuator. The oscillator can be hard synced to another oscillator using the SYNC input.

Specifications:
– 16HP
– Frequency range : 20Hz – 14kHz
– Depth: 24mm (+ power connector)
– Power: +12V 82mA, -12V 26mA
– V/OCT input range -3 to 7V
– FM input range -5V to 5V
– PWM input range -5V to 5V

Price and availability:
The module will be shown on the SoundForce booth this week at Superbooth (booth O501) along with some more upcoming modules. It’s available right now to pre-order at 229 euros incl. VAT (189 euros outside of Europe) on the SoundForce webshop. It will be shipping in June."
