Waldorf PPG Wave 3.v vs 2.2v Synth Plugin Head to Head

Synth & Sundry

"Comparing three identical patches on the Waldorf PPG Wave 3.v VST synth plugin and its multiple PPG Wave wavetable emulations (Wave 2.3, Wave 2.2, Wave 2.v) against the older version of the audio plugin, the PPG Wave 2.2v

Contents:
00:00 Leafy Intro
00:36 Waldorf PPG Wave 3.v Patch 1 (2.3 Mode)
00:57 Waldorf PPG Wave 3.v Patch 1 (2.2 Mode)
01:26 Waldorf PPG Wave 3.v Patch 1 (2.v Mode)
02:17 Waldorf PPG Wave 2.2.v Patch 1 (old plugin)
03:43 Waldorf PPG Wave 3.v Patch 5 (2.3 Mode)
04:29 Waldorf PPG Wave 3.v Patch 5 (2.2 Mode)
05:26 Waldorf PPG Wave 3.v Patch 5 (2.v Mode)
06:14 Waldorf PPG Wave 2.2.v Patch 5 (old plugin)
07:27 Waldorf PPG Wave 3.v Patch 21 (2.3 Mode)
08:25 Waldorf PPG Wave 3.v Patch 21 (2.2 Mode)
09:24 Waldorf PPG Wave 3.v Patch 21 (2.v Mode)
10:27 Waldorf PPG Wave 2.2.v Patch 21 (old plugin)
11:32 Leafy Conclusion

There were three versions of the PPG Wave wavetable synthesizer. The first iteration was the Wave 2 (from 1981) which had 8 oscillators and the CEM 3320 VCF 24db/oct filter chips. It was in good company since the Sequential Circuits Pro One used those too for its analog filters. The next year the Wave 2.2 version came out with 16 oscillators (so two per voice) and a different filter chip to accompany its now beefier 8 voices. Both the 2.2 and 2.3 used the SSM 2044 VCF chip which was also present in the much lauded Octave Plateau Voyetra 8 and the Korg Mono/Poly. The final 2.3 iteration from 1984 increased the oscillator resolution from 8-bit to 12-bit when used in conjunction with a Waveterm A or B music computer unit which allowed for sampling and sequencing very much in the vein of the legendary Fairlight CMI.

Just Yamaha SY-1 Analog Synth Playing (No Talking)

Synth & Sundry

"The Yamaha SY-1 from 1974 was Yamaha's first synthesizer. It's single VCO design offered both the convenience of some presets and perfunctory analog sybtractive synthesis controls. The user interface takes queues from the organ designs of the time, which makes sense, since the SY-1 was conceived as an accessory for those.

What is pretty incredible about this vintage synth is that in spite of its simple design, the Yamaha SY-1 has aftertouch which it makes it an extremely expressive analog keyboard.

NOTE: This video has two synth takes overdubbed.

How many Octatrack effects are too many?

Synth & Sundry

"Welcome to the Octatrack Thru and Neighbor machine neighborhood. Watch in shock or awe as I pile on the effects one after the other with the quintessential Elektron box. I started off with an innocent sound from the modular rack and then the mayhem starts.

How I sample synths into Octatrack ... without unplugging anything!

"This shows how I've set up my music studio to send audio seamlessly to the Octatrack thanks to the RME Fireface UFX. I can send audio from an external synth or several and/or also audio from my computer be it from a DAW or even from a browser!

I have the Fireface UFX connected to my computer via a USB C to USB B cable in order to avoid having to rely on a USB C hub for audio connectivity. The Octatrack gets its audio from the RME via a pair of balanced cables (though the Octatrack inputs are unbalanced) and there's still a second pair of inputs I could use if I wanted to separate my routing a bit more. However for now I'm happy with just using one input pair on the Octatrack since I mainly use it for music production as opposed to as a live electronic performance hub."

Relaxing Synth Ambient | Storks on morning rooftops

Synth & Sundry

"Synth ambient made with Ableton Live internal electronic instruments and effects: Electric, String & Collision by AAS, Wavetable, Operator, Kasio M4L by Oli Larkin

A commenter on the previous stork synth music video described the aim of this type of video perfectly: "This is like a deep tissue massage for [the] soul"

Apologies for the occasionally camera shakes. Sound is not affected in any way though.

Retro Harrier Jet & Falklands Tactical Video | DOS C64 ZX Spectrum

Synth & Sundry

"A low-key celebration of vintage computer game simulators and the poignancy of library music made with synthesizers.

Footage features the following videogames: Super VGA Harrier (DOS), Harrier Jump Jet (DOS), Falklands (C64) and Falklands '82 (ZX Spectrum)

This synth track is based on library music from an old documentary. I augmented it and reworked it using sampled synth instruments and drum machines from Samples From Mars on Ableton Live.

"An electropop track with vocoder vocals for your listening pleasure. I composed this with the Elektron Octatrack, Analog Four, Roland JV880, Eurorack Modular. These synthesizers and samplers were recorded into Ableton Live using an RME Fireface UFX audio interface.

I mixed and added additional melodies in Ableton Live using native virtual instruments like Wavetable and Operator as well as a third-party VST plugin: Fury 800 which emulates the Korg Poly 800. The vocals recorded with a Shure SM48 and were processed with Ableton Live's vocoder and effects.

Which one? ASM Hydrasynth or Roland MC707 Synth discussion

Synth & Sundry

"I've been very interested in both the Roland MC707 and ASM Hydrasynth synthesizer instruments recently. Here I discuss what the synth features and design approach that draws me to them as well as how they contrast other synths I have or have seen. I'm looking at these two electronic instruments from the point of view of my current studio set up and how they would potentially fit in. Thanks for watching!

Synth & Sundry Cybersyn - Reveil | Intrigues Telematiques (Synth & Sundry)

Synth & Sundry

"Réveil is the first track on 'Intrigues Télématiques', the debut release from Cybersyn. This album is a musical ride down the elevator of forgotten technologies.

https://synthandsundry.bandcamp.com/a...

From dumb terminals to self-aware cybernetic management systems, the pace of the arpeggiated command-basslines and flow-charted synth melodies rarely lets up, only catching its breath to load a new sub-routine for your ears.

Cybersyn is an itinerant second-order simulacra born in the oblivion of virtual space. Cybersyn searches for lost visions and technologies to recombine into aural and visual forms.

Synth & Sundry

"Made this track a while ago with several synth VSTs including Novation Bass Station, PPG Wave 2.V and Ableton's built in Vocoder (which came in with version 9). I am really happy with how the synthesizer melodies came out so I went ahead and made a video for it. Let me know how you like it!
