Synth Diy Guy Featured Builder: Vinicius Brazil!

Published on Sep 2, 2017 Synth Diy Guy

"A visit and a chat with my partner and teacher Vinicius Brazil of VBrazil Modular.

Here´s a translation of our conversation:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/slwj5baadyx..."

" SYNTH DIY GUY - Featured Builder - Vinicius Brazil
Q - Hi Vinicius! V - Hi
Q - All good? V - All great!
Q - Tell us a little bit about your path, how you got started with electronics and music.
V - I arrived at electronics thanks to music. When I was a kid, 15 years old, I got my first guitar, and in Brazil it was very expensive to acquire guitar pedals. So I started to take some of my friends’ pedals and study their insides, this was in the 60 ́s, and from there I started making my own pedals. Copying at first, then creating muy own solutions. This got me excited and I went on to study Electronics and graduate college as an Electronic Engineer.
Q- Cool, and what kinds of pedals did you make at first?
V - All were guitar pedals. I started of course with fuzz and distortion, then on to more sophisticated things like flangers, phasers and delays. This was during the 70 ́s. In the end of the 70 ́s synthesizers started attracting me. That ́s when I built my first semi modular synth in 1978/79.
Q - Do you still have that synth?

The Deadbug Buffer : A Eurorack Active Multi on a Homemade panel

Published on Mar 20, 2017 Synth Diy Guy

"Deadbug is a prototyping technique where you glue an IC upsidedown on a copper panel and make point to point connections for everything else. A Buffered Multi is a CV distributor that preserves an input voltage unaltered over three low impedance outputs. Very useful for sending critical CV to multiple destinations. Have Fun.

Special thanks to my teachers, Vinicius Brazil, and Ray Wilson (RIP)"

"Bonus: I also build the cool mini ATT passive dual attenuator, summer, mute!

Zlob SVF Demo Video - Making a full track with one filter

Published on Mar 11, 2020 Synth Diy Guy

"Taking the Zlob SVF filter for a spin, I overdub 5 voices all made with this sweet gnarly beast :)"

"The SVF is a 2 pole 12dB state variable filter providing low pass, band pass, and high pass outs. The filter has 2 audio inputs, but channel 2 is jumper selectable between standard audio in or Ping-able operation. The 2019 revision also adds improved cutoff and resonance response and attenuversion to the ENV in(CV in) through the above CV pot. The 1V in provides another un-attenuated exponential approximated CV in. Contrary to what the panel says the filter does not track 1V per octave and is not temperature compensated.

At the 1V in, +10v will open the filter completely if the cutoff pot is CCW(counter clockwise). With the cutoff knob at noon the filter can be opened with +5v or closed with -5v. CV input at the ENV in is dependent on the CV attenuverter knob.

There are also several jumper selectable modes for max resonance, self oscillation or no oscillation based on the setting of the resonance pot. According to the jumper configuration, the filter is capable of clinical and clean, to juicy and drippy, to low pass gate sounding plonks, to screaming chaotic resonance. When set to self oscillation mode, the filter can produce a sine like wave with no input and a trapezoid like wave in the max resonance jumper setting. In max resonance mode, the filter output can exceed 10Vpp. On the newest version, there is a trimmer on the top pcb to set the lowest cutoff frequency.

Width: 4hp
Panel Material: Aluminum
Reverse power protected
Current Consumption: +12v: 15mA max, -12v: 15mA max
Depth: 46mm
Ships with M3 black nylon screws
Build Difficulty: Intermediate
Expandable: no?"

Erica Synths Introduces New Standalone Desktop Matrix Mixer Based on the Syntryx

Plugging in to the Matrix Mixer by Erica Synths video upload by Synth Diy Guy

"A whole new way to patch a modular, with endless mults and mixers, presets saving, randomization and more. I take a deep dive and devise some strategies for using this powerful tool."

"As Eurorack users may know, it can be challenging to change a patch radically during a performance, therefore diverse performances require large systems or they end up being extremely experimental. But what if you could repatch your system with the push of a single button? The Erica Synths Matrix Mixer is a 16 – input, 16 - output desktop patch matrix – it can route and mix signals with high precision, create buffered multiples and random patches. It can also interface external instruments with your Eurorack system, and – it’s not limited to Eurorack!

You can use the Matrix Mixer with semi-modular synthesizers, as well as through adapter cards with the EMS Synthi and Buchla Music Easel. Thanks to simple patch changes via panel buttons or MIDI program change messages, the Matrix Mixer will be particularly useful in performances that combine Eurorack and other performance instruments, such as drums, guitars, wind instruments, etc. Make your modular performance stand out and enjoy the Matrix Mixer!

F e a t u r e s:

All analogue signal path
16 buffered, DC coupled inputs
16 independent, buffered, DC coupled outputs
256 connections, each with 3 attenuation levels
Random pattern mode with definable randomization area and density
254 pattern memory
Pattern change via MIDI program change messages
32 3,5mm jack sockets
4 6,3mm jack sockets

RRP: 490 EUR
MAP USD: 599
