Novation Summit - A playing attempt at Brian Crain's "Imagining"

video uploads by eM

Playlist:
Novation Summit - A playing attempt at Brian Crain's "Imagining"
One of my favorite piano artists Brian Crain, his song 'Imagining' attempting to play it. IIt definitely takes some muscle memory, but I love this song, love to hear it sound on the Summit.
Novation Summit - "Morning Stroll" SM Plucked Keys
Took a walk outside with the family in our new neighborhood... beautiful sunny day. Much to be thankful for. a short inspirational piece from that played here. I hope wherever you are you will find an enjoyable stroll for yourself.
Novation Summit - SM Plucked Keys (Orano patch) - "Pirate's Beach"
Could pass for a guitar sound, do you think? Credit to Orano's patch again, some reverb from the flashback and hall of fame, subtle reverb and delay on the Summit, I know I know.. why not just use one or the other. Well, it's convenient to alternate, the HoF and FB pedals are primarily not adjusted as it's also sent thru my mixer as an FX channel for other instruments. Enjoy.
Novation Summit - "Aisle" - Multi Mode - 1. SM 5th Sense 2. Sm Who's Afraid (Orano's single patches)
Credit to Orano's Novation Summit single patches, I split them in multi mode, as you'll usually see me do. In this improvisation I'm playing with the delay timing effects on the #2 patch while playing pad on the #1. The onboard delay and reverb effects gives instant breaths for your creative atmospheres.
Novation Summit - "Crystal Falls" Multi Setting (SM Leviathan and SM Popcorn Arp)
Patch creation credit to Orano Music @ https://www.orano.co.uk/shop. Just having fun with blending his patches, very lush and enjoyable, highly recommended!
Novation Summit - SM Leviathan (patch Created by Orano Music)
This patch (along with many others) was created by Orano Music
Novation Summit - "Legendary Keys" - Solo Piano - Multi Mode
I like taking the same single patch and splitting them between both the A and B sections. There are a few minor tweaks between the two sections of course, the A section I'll use for solo piano playing with some slight filter manipulations while the B section is mainly conducting the arp in the play tick on the arp knob, this basically follows the key strokes and does a catch up, so to say, as there is also delay and feedback being added for dynamic effect. I like being able to create an immersivity effect to keep me going in my solo playing. The Summit never fails to conveniently produce this very basic task.

Since OBS has fixed their NDI plugin, it's less work around for me to set up these recordings again. Thanks for listening. appreciate any comments or tips for solo piano playing and any other recommendations to help me along this Summit playing journey.

Elektron Digitone - Sweet Sounds [SOUNDSET] • Custom Presets

video upload by Mr. Card

"My private collection of sweet sounds dedicated to Elektron Digitone (Bass, Brass, Chords, Lead, Keys, Pad, Strings). I've always loved warm and saturated sounds. Although Elektron Digitone is digital, it allows you to achieve many sweet sounds. I like the Elektron Digitone a lot for its functionality and sound. With this soundset, you can take your instrument to the next level. Check out my soundset: https://bit.ly/digitone-sweet"

Making Sound Machines Coming to Dutch Modular Fest

Dreamy Shuffle, Lush Pads: Stolperbeats and Digitone
video upload by Making Sound Machines

"We're off to Berlin - excited to be hosting a workshop at Schneidersladen, tonight at 7:30 pm.

We will be playing a short modular live set, spill the beans on our setup and share our deepest and darkest secrets about deliciously bad timing in #Eurorack. You're invited to swing by, and we look forward to hanging out and chatting afterwards. You will have to sign up via mail - info@schneidersladen.de

We recorded this dreamy little sketch during the search for our live set - a very simple setup using the Elektron Digitone as a sound module for its lush synth pads and slick drum tones, sequenced and shuffled by our #Stolperbeats drum trigger sequencer via MIDI notes. The module in turn receives MIDI from the super portable OMX27 keyboard by Denki Oto (with backlit linear Cherry keys - love it!)

Stolperbeats, roughly translating to 'beats tripping over themselves', is our drum trigger sequencer designed to create shuffled beats influenced by the gritty push-and-pull grooves from the golden age of Hiphop. We've always been fascinated by taking our beats offgrid to give them more fluidity and life. This module allows you to easily dial in and seamlessly switch between all the shuffle, feeling and groove we would, in the past, painstakingly nudge together in a DAW.

Stolperbeats is used here in its 'MIDI Rec' mode, originally envisioned as a quick way to map pitch, channel and velocity from drum machines onto the modules instrument channels by matching the selected instrument to the incoming MIDI data. Turns out this is really fun to use as a transpose with an external keyboard to provide shuffled melodies to the Elektron #Digitone.

If you are in the Netherlands, come see us at Dutch Modular Fest 2022 in Utrecht on Saturday Sept 3rd - we'll have a booth there next to the lovely This is Not Rocket Science (TiNRS) and Vaski, who will both show amazing new stuff."

Taking our MIDI gear offgrid: Stolperbeats and Digitone

video upload by Making Sound Machines

"Finished a chilled weekend with a nice Sunday evening jam! Stolperbeats is heard here MIDI sequencing Elektron's Digitone 4 voice FM synth, a secret Making Sound Machines Eurorack prototype called Percussive Maintenance as well as Fred's Lab's cheeky little paraphonic voice called Zekit. If you haven't already, go check out the DIY workshops at Superbooth 2022 - where you can actually build a Zekit yourself!

Stolperbeats, roughly translating to 'beats tripping over themselves', is a drum trigger sequencer designed to create shuffled beats influenced by artists like Flying Lotus, Hiatus Kaiyote and J Dilla. We've always been fascinated by taking our beats offgrid to give them more fluidity and life. This module allows you to easily dial in and seamlessly switch between all the shuffle, feeling and groove we would, in the past, painstakingly nudge together in a DAW.

Stolperbeats' timing is set to Clave, a special mode where the accents in a 3:3:2 rhythm are fixed "on time" and the rest of the notes shuffle around that. The idea came when we chopped up some Modeselektor beats and started to add swing to them.

The Elektron Digitone acts as a sound module here, receiving Stolperbeats' triggers as MIDI notes - channel, pitch, velocity and note length can be adjusted per track to map to any MIDI capable drum machine or synth. The MIDI is split using the incredibly handy Meeblip cubit to target an extra bass voice on Fred's Lab Zekit. Of course, you can still patch the triggers into Eurorack at the same time, so we whipped out our Percussive Maintenance drum voice to add a kick and some hihats.

While Digitone's internal sequencer is not running in this sketch, Stolperbeats still sends a MIDI clock signal so the tempo synchronizes across the two machines. Enrica uses the built-in keys to live-transpose one of the tracks and play a shuffled melody on top of the sketch. We're very excited about Elektron 's new Syntakt by the way, that looks like a perfect match for Stolperbeats."

http://bit.ly/BurgPatreon

Track info:

Session 05 is a bit more upbeat style track, the idea was to use the Erebus as main theme, to showcase its nice creamy features.. dub style together with the RE-20 space echo and a huge modulated reverb in the empress really hit the spot.

Also, i wanted to dial it back a bit and make it a tad more minimal than the other tracks. Running at 115 bpm it is still pretty dense, so i hope there is air enough between the sounds making it enjoyable.

Make sure to have a happy new year everyone, i hope that 2021 will bring more music and less chaos. Stay safe all and do something nice for someone today !! Peace !

http://bit.ly/BurgPatreon

Track info:

Session 04 is a 118bpm break beat style track, this as I wanted to get away from the four on the floor spell. I spent a lot of time randomizing sequences and patterns, modulating stuff in the eurorack with Pam´s and Planar2, e.g Braids, BIA, Plonk, Furthrrrr, white noise from 1U noise tools and the 3xVCO chords so this tune almost plays itself. This was great for the jam which allowed the tune to breathe in-between sections just keeping the groove going while planning the next part.

I am also with this track breaking free from a writers block which has kept me from making any new stuff for the upcoming album for a couple of weeks... yeah, im free.. for now :)

Have a listen and join me on the ride! :) cheers!

Track info:

95 bpm slow and dreamy, this one took a while to put together.. most probably due to struggling with similar melodies and vibes from the other two previous sessions. Big thanks to my patrons for pointing that out so i know what to fix. I think that this will have some significant changes for the final version of the track.. and when multitracking it I will most probably change the intro section a bit plus also ensure it builds up in a more cohesive way.

AKAI force, as usual is handling the main drums, sequencing the sub37, monologue, ASM hydrasynth and the volca bass. TR 707 adds some simpler hihats, digitakt adds some extra percussion. Digitone, Peak, Analog Four are not in use.

The ms-20 starts the track off, paired with a long wobbly delay in the el Capistan. At the 3.30 mark i play the dreadbox erebus from the force pads.. a bit tricky but it worked ok. I think the melody will change a bit too, esp phrasing.

Modular does some nice percussion with the BIA, sort of a bass style sound + a pretty weird sequence with the Braids. :)

Enjoy!

Track info:

108 bpm downbeat with light shuffle, focus on a longer buildup for a possible intro section. I might split this into two separate track for the future final recording to make things a bit simpler.

AKAI force is handling drums and sequencing the peak chords, monologue, erebus III and also the main low end bass from the volca. Additional percussion from the TR707, digitakt and the digitone.

First intro melody is on the ms-20, sub37 and ASM in combo does the second one.

Modular does the main intro sequence, 3x doepfer uPVCOs in a triad chord with the help from O_C hemisphere app, also some randomised melodies in the intro to build atmosphere sequenced by the eloquencer, using the classic rings into clouds combo. :)

Enjoy!

As a BURG patreon You will get access to behind the scenes materials, exclusive live streams, tiers with stems, loop packs and other perks including access to the exclusive BURG discord.

Track info:

So a new big item enters the studio, AKAI force. Main use case for this is to sequence some of my gear, such as the Novation peak plus serve as mixer/FX unit for my volcas. Also adding to this obviously it is filled with a lot of goodies and music production stuff to help move the BURG style into more complex chord progressions and layers of my musical making.

This is a first attempt, maybe not really 100% BURG style.. but it does indeed showcase the possibilities using the force in my workflow. All in all I have a good feeling about this purchase.

I hope you will enjoy it !

Gear used:
- AKAI force ( main drums, lo end bass, arps, vocal samples, mixer for my volcas )
- Sub37, lead sound, Strymon timeline and blue sky
- KORG volca keys and bass
- KORG monologue, sequenced from the force + FX from the digitone
- Novation peak, Pads ( sequenced by AKAI force )
- Avalon bassline 303 square style

Mark Mosher #Jamuary 2020 Day 13

Published on Jan 13, 2020 Mark Mosher

"For my #jamuary2020 Day 13 I'm using only my trusty @nordkeyboards Nord Lead 4 with 3 custom presets from "init" arranged into a "performance" with a split.

For those not familiar with the Nord Lead 4, it has 4 complete synthesizers each with their own FX each. Presets called "programs" can be placed into one of four "slots". Slots can be combined into "performances" where you can perform with all four slots in concert.

For EACH synth instance you create both impulse and continuous morphs which allow you to save states for pretty much any parameter in for the preset in a slot without changing presets 😮.

You can save and trigger 7 impulse morphs per slot with impulse morph buttons on the left next to the wooden pitch stick. Morph buttons are momentary switches but you can latch them as I do 26 second mark. Continuous morphs are mapped to the groovy pumice mod wheel (or map this to an expression pedal).

I used this custom set of presets and "performance" when I performed as a special guest for the Boulder Laptop Orchestra (BLOrK) at the @cu_atlas Atlas Black Box at @cuboulder back in 2017. For this performance I used only the Nord Lead 4 with 14 programs each with a large number of morph states. Video here https://youtu.be/ScpItttfGlY.

In a somewhat related note I'm a @uccs_alumni so it was real treat to perform within the CU system 😀.

I kind of cheated ... self playing ZOIA patches (Empress Effects) // #JAMUARY2020 DAY 13

Published on Jan 13, 2020 DivKidVideo

"** Anyone called Floyd that's pink and feels like running? ** With the brilliant news that there's a new Eurorack version of the Empress Effects ZOIA the "ZOIA EuroBuro" as announced by Empress Effects today (link below) I thought I'd crack out the ZOIA pedal and well ... CHEAT! I say cheat as I didn't really do much musical creating today, I just flicked through some ZOIA presets and let some self running patches play away beautifully. There's a lot of rich and lush sound from ZOIA so I figured this can be more of a little ode to ZOIA and sort of a promo for it's self contained capabilities (not sponsored). I've had great fun with my guitar into it and the modular so more exploration to come."

"My third jam for #Jamuary2020. Another downtempo one, this time featuring the Digitone, Minilogue, Tensor, Particle V2 and the trusty RV-500.

The Digitone is sequencing arpeggiated chords and a plucked bassline, plus is used for a live pad. The Minilogue is used for the live lead. I used the Tensor to build a looping pad made from some of the notes from the Minilogue, which is then run through Particle V2 for graininess and then into the RV-500 for some reverb."

Eutelia

Published on Aug 24, 2019 rustyjaw

"It's been a while. Took some time away from music, although I didn't intend to take this long. I suffered a bit of a creative crises for a while, really not thrilled with my own music. Feeling like I had fallen into ruts, working the same tools in the same manner. I started to worry that I'd drift so far form music making that it would be hard to find my way back, so I decided to just try and learn something new. I focused on learning to use loops with the Deluge. I took the Deluge out of my room (ah, battery powered gear!) in an attempt to steer clear of those ruts.

That was the genesis of this track, using the Deluge to crunch up some drum loops and make variations. The rest flowed organically from that, I built much of the track on the Deluge using internal sounds, and then moved it to the studio to reroute some of those tracks to external gear. I found that just exercising the music muscle in the name of satisfying a curiosity was enough to kickstart inspiration.

Sound sources:
Deluge synth is doing bassline and ethereal pads
Deluge for all beats, processed with internal fx
JP-08 for muted keys/chime-like sounds
Digitone for thin panning pad and occasional bubbly arps
Rings is the arp lead (being fed a modulated BIA), but the Peak also mirrors the same melodic lines for layering
Morphagene is glitching about on a recording of the Rings, this is fed into Magneto for ambiance

Stillson Hammer MkII is running stepped modulation to BIA, Rings, and Morphagene"
