TEControl Breath Controller Review

Published on Feb 26, 2013 Torley·896 videos

"Torley has his breath taken away by the TEControl USB-MIDI Breath Controller, buy it here: » http://bit.ly/V5ONOf

Want more Torley music? » http://torley.com

▓▒░ OFFICIAL BLURB ░▒▓

We have received numerous requests from musicians and composers to develop a replacement for Yamaha's breath controller BC3A.

The result is the MIDI Breath Controller, which has the same function as a combination of the BC3A and the "MIDI solution" converter box but with a USB interface instead of the older standard DIN connector.

The MIDI Breath Controller uses a novel signal processing algorithm to transform the breath pressure signal to MIDI cc messages that let you add realistic expression to your performance. This is extremely useful for live performance with synthesizers and DAW's. It gives you excellent control of pitch, expression, velocity cross-fade etc... of soft synths and sample libraries

Bob Moog Foundation Commemorates Sixth Anniversary

YouTube Published on Aug 20, 2012 by moogfoundation

"Bob Moog's legacy lives on in the rock stars and panelists at Moogfest 2011. Find out why Bob's extraordinary legacy deserves to be carried forward.

Featuring: Moby, Wayne Coyne, Diego Stocco, Eric Persing, Bryan Bell, Dick Hyman, Terry Riley, David Borden, Joel Cummins, Alan Vega and Torley."

"Asheville, NC - August 20, 2012 - Tomorrow marks seven years since beloved synthesizer inventor Bob Moog passed away in 2005. It has also been six years since his family formally established the non-profit Bob Moog Foundation. The BMF continues to advance Bob’s legacy by announcing several recent projects ranging from educational videos to a Web page tracing the history of synthesizers. The “Moogmentum” that the BMF initiated in the summer of 2006 continues picking up steam.

In cooperation with macProVideo.com, the Bob Moog Foundation introduces a tutorial series titled The Foundation of Synthesis with Marc Doty. Six videos cover the History of Synthesis; Oscillators; Filters; Control Voltage; VCAs, Ring Modulation, and S&H; and Applied Synthesis. Education specialist Doty, best known for his YouTube-based synth instruction, has created custom animations and uses a variety of instruments to demonstrate these six concepts. In addition, keyboardist Erik Norlander makes an appearance to give a brief tour of his massive modular synthesizer affectionately known as the Wall of Doom. The first three videos from this exclusive series will be available on August 23 for individual downloads or to monthly or annual macProVideo.com subscribers. A large portion of the proceeds will go to benefit the BMF.

A new promotional video, produced by Flying Pig Studios in Asheville, highlights the Bob Moog Foundation’s unquenchable desire to inspire innovation and ignite creativity. It features performers and panelists from last year’s edition of the annual music festival held in Bob’s honor, Moogfest 2011. Musicians such as Moby, Dick Hyman, and Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips talk about Bob Moog’s lasting impact on the world of music and the importance of continuing his legacy. You can view the video at http://youtu.be/VO-9JtN5-a0. [embed above]

This week the BMF is also releasing free online video coverage of “History of the Minimoog,” one of the most spirited and informative panel discussions of Moogfest 2010. Watch and learn as legendary Moog collaborators Bill Hemsath, Tom Rhea, Dave Van Koevering, and Herb Deutsch discuss their individual roles in developing the Minimoog synthesizer in 1970 as part of a team effort with Bob Moog.

Anyone who has researched the history of synthesizers knows how frustrating it can be to find consistently reliable information. As part of the Foundation’s relentless effort to rid the world of misinformation, the BMF announces its comprehensive Timeline of Synthesis, which will be posted on its website beginning this week.

Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool is making news, too, with its ongoing mission to teach the science of sound through the magic of music. After concluding its pilot program in 8 Asheville second-grade classrooms this past spring, DBSS is expanding to 25 classrooms in Asheville and Buncombe County schools for the 2012–2013 school year. Using traditional and electronic musical instruments with custom educational materials, the BMF plans to expand DBSS to 100 classrooms in North and South Carolina by 2014.

"Moogfest History and Technical Panels Draw on Deep Legacy and Industry Connections

The Bob Moog Foundation is bringing together top minds in history, technology and education for this year’s history and technical panels. Experts, ranging from Bob’s colleagues in the seminal days of synthesis to the more contemporary sound sculptors of today, are coming from around the country to share their ideas and vast experiences. The Bob Moog Foundation will be responsible for the historical content at Moogfest, including items from Dr. Bob’s Archives such as rarely seen vintage photographs and historic audio clips from recently restored reel-to-reel tapes.

All panels, demonstrations, and workshops will take place between Noon and 6:30 PM EST at the Moogaplex, located at the Haywood Park Hotel complex at 1 Battery Park Avenue in downtown Asheville, just a stone’s throw from many of the music venues. They are first come, first serve for those who bought either weekend passes or have a pass for that particular day.
Convergence – Hardware and Software Integration in the 21st Century & The Award of OMG-1 One-Of-A-Kind Synth (Friday, 3pm)

The One-Of-A-Kind OMG-1, designed by Eric Persing

The creation of electronic music has always relied on exploring all technologies available. In the modern context, that often means transcending the divide between the tactile experience of hardware devices and the ever-increasing capabilities of computers. An incredible panel of sonic explorers moderated by Spectrasonics’ founder Eric Persing will investigate the challenges of how electronic instruments can reach their ultimate potential through the convergence of multiple technologies.

During this panel, Persing will be awarding his one-of-a-kind OMG-1 synthesizer to the winner of the OMG-1 Contest, Torley Wong. You won’t want to miss this historical moment!

Spectrasonics Announce Winners in "OMG-1 Contest"

"BURBANK, CALIF -- SEPTEMBER 15, 2011 -- Spectrasonics today announced the winners of their worldwide "OMG-1 Contest." Over 400 entries for the contest were submitted from 68 different countries, with a very wide diversity of musical styles. The goal for each contestant was to use the sounds from the Bob Moog Tribute Library in a creative and inspiring way. The company reports that the Contest and the Library have been able to raise record-breaking funds for the Bob Moog Foundation to support their innovative projects.

Eric Persing, Spectrasonics Creative Director and Founder, said, "With the hundreds of creative entries from around the world, the OMG-1 Contest was an incredible success! The overall quality of all the entries was so much higher than we expected, it was extremely difficult to choose the winners."

The Grand Prize of Persing's custom-built OMG-1 synthesizer has been awarded to Torley Wong of Washington State [matrix edit: Torley's been featured here on MATRIXSYNTH a number of times] , who submitted an entire album's worth of music--15 pieces, over one-hour in total--exclusively using the "Bob Moog Tribute Library" in Spectrasonics' Omnisphere software synthesizer for the tonal elements of his album. The one-of-a-kind OMG-1 synthesizer will be presented as the Grand Prize to Mr. Wong in a special event at the 'Moogfest' in Asheville, North Carolina in October 2011.

In fact, so many great pieces of music were submitted in the contest that three other major winners were announced as well, winning prizes generously donated by hardware synthesizer manufacturer Moog Music:

* "Outstanding Achievement Award" David Soltany (Strasbourg, France)

* "Next Generation Award" Eric Oberthaler (Berkeley, California)

* "Most Original Composition" Waen Shepherd (London, UK)

Fifteen additional contestants were recognized with "Creative Excellence Awards" and have their music featured on the Spectrasonics website.

INSTANT DUBSTEP WOBBLE with Lazerbass in Reaktor 5.5 (Native Instruments Komplete 7)

YouTube via Torley | January 12, 2011 |

"http://www.native-instruments.com/en/... is a candy shoppe for sonic exquisantes who crave an extra helping of phat bass. Official blurb:

--

Lazerbass
The newest addition to the REAKTOR library is a monophonic synthesizer delivering a pure and direct sound without additional effects. The new additive synthesis module means Lazerbass can create a large number of timbres, themselves made up of multiple harmonic or non harmonic partials. The result is a sound of immense quality, equally at home creating spacey sci-fi sounds as full and punchy sub basses ideal for dubstep and other leading-edge electronic productions that need that signature 'wobble.'"

BE SPEAK & SPELL INCARNATE with Sonic Charge Bitspeek

YouTube via Torley | January 08, 2011 | 23 likes, 2 dislikes

"http://www.soniccharge.com/bitspeek for you to try the demo and BE SPEAK & SPELL LIKE ME. Official blurb:

--
About Bitspeek

Sonic Charge Bitspeek is a real-time pitch-excited linear prediction codec effect. Right now you are probably thinking, "oh, another one of those"? Or perhaps not. Chances are that you have never heard about "linear prediction", although most of us use it daily when we talk on our cell phones. Linear prediction coding is a voice compression technology that appeared in commercial products in the seventies and was implemented in some well-known speaking toys of the early eighties.

We have applied this technology to create a VST / AU effect plug-in that analyzes audio, extracts a number of parameters (including pitch, volume and formant data) and then resynthesizes the audio using a simple oscillator, noise and filter architecture.

We have added a number of playback parameters that adjusts the pitch and tonal quality of the sound as well as support for MIDI and a beat-synchronized "formant freezing effect". Despite having only a few simple controls, this box can produce a broad range of sounds from cheap speaking toys to high-end vocoder and talkbox effects."
