Étude No.9 - Freak/Rampage/Muxlicer/ReduXer/Mimeophon/BIA/Desmodus Versio

Omri Cohen

You can find additional resources from Omri Cohen at https://www.patreon.com/omricohen

Here are some patch notes:
---------------------------------------------
- I have Freak set with a built in dual VCA, and both channels have the resonance all the way up.
- The Keystep Pro is triggering both sections of Rampage, which are opening the VCA of Freak.
- I have S&H from the 1U Noise Tools modulating the fall times of one channel, and the Muxlicer sequencing the fall times of the other channel.
- Freak is going to ReduXer from VoicAS, and from there to the Mimeophon.
- I have S&H coming from the Disting modulating both the color and repeats controls of the Mimeophon.
- The Keystep Pro is also triggering the Basimilus, which is going to the Desmodus Versio with the regen all the way up so it's side chained to the Basimilus.
- I'm clocking the Mimeophon, the Disting, and Muxlicer with the Keystep Pro.

Étude No.5 - Freak/Muxlicer/ReduXer/Mimeophon/Arbhar/2HP Freez/Rampage/BIA/Desmodus Versio

Omri Cohen

You can find additional resources available from Omri Cohen at https://www.patreon.com/omricohen

"Here are some patch notes:
-----------------------------------------------------
- I have Freak set with the Vraids firmware which gives me a dual Braids, and I have it set to PLUCK mode.
- It's being sequenced by Muxlicer, and the gate mode of Muxlicer is being modulated by S&H from the Intellijel 1U Noise Tools.
- This Freak is going to another Freak set with a band pass filter, and its cutoff is also being sequenced by Muxlicer.
- From there the signal is going to ReduXer from VoicAS, and its amount is being modulated by Muxlicer as well.
- This is going to the Mimeophon and the Flip, Zone, Color, and Halo are being modulated by S&H.
- From there one output is going to Arbhar and the other to the 2HP Freez.
- Arbhar is set to continuously record the input, and I'm modulating its reverb amount with S&H.
- I'm triggering the 2HP Freez with the Rising output of Rampage, and I'm modulating its size with the Max output of Rampage.
- The Keystep Pro is sequencing the Basimilus, which is going to the Desmodus Versio, and I'm modulating the Size and Dense with the Min and out A of Rampage."

Prickly Pear - Lúbadh, Arbhar, Morphagene, VCV Rack, Magneto, Basimilus, Mimeophon, Freak, Nebulae

Omri Cohen

You can find additional resources available from Omri Cohen at https://www.patreon.com/omricohen

"Here are some patch notes:
--------------------------
- I recorded a short loop with Janso from Felt Instruments into Morphagene, and this is going directly to the mixer.
- I also recorded it into Arbhar, which is going through Flame, the analog distortion model on Freak from Vult.
- I have a sample of The Hollow Men by T.S Eliot on Nebulae, which is playing it back slower and it's also going through a tape delay on the Disting, which is being modulated by S&H from VCV Rack. I also modulate the Size function from VCV Rack.
- The Basimilus is being triggered by the 1U Noise Tools from Intellijel, and it's going the LedRover from VoicAS and the Mimeophon from Make Noise.
- I have another Freak loaded with the Vraids firmware (dual Braids), and one channel is set to PRTC mode and the other to NOIS. The PRTC is going to the 2HP Freez module, which is being triggered and modulated from VCV Rack, and the NOIS is going to the Microcell.
- I recorded the Cello from Felt Instruments into Magneto from Strymon, which is in Shift mode so it adds overtones to the sample.
- I recorded a short sequence from VCV Rack with an FM voice into the first channel of Lúbadh, which is playing it back in reverse, and I'm modulating the Start function from VCV Rack.
- I also recorded another voice from VCV Rack, a PD voice, into the second channel of Lúbadh , and it's playing it back slower.
- I'm in love with Lúbadh... "

Origins - Fundamental, Eurorack, VCV Rack, Felt Instruments

Omri Cohen

"The WAV file for this performance is available on my Patreon page - https://www.patreon.com/posts/39239825

Here are some patch notes:
--------------------------------------------------
- I recorded Fundamental into the Morphagene, and I'm playing it an octave lower. Morphagene is also going into VCV Rack for some reverb with Plateau.
- I recorded a different sound from Fundamental into Arbhar, and I have the built-in reverb set to output only the wet signal.
- I'm triggering the Basimilus with the 1U Noise Tools module set to random, and it's going through the VoicAS LedRover and the Mimeophon.
- The Rate of the Mimeophon is being modulated by the Slew output of the Noise Tools module, and I have the ping pong mode on and also the Flip function.
- I have a few piano notes recorded into Nebulae, and I'm playing them in reverse and very slowly. Nebulae is going into VCV Rack for some reverb.
- I have one Freak module loaded with Vraids, the alternative firmware with 2 Braids inside, and I'm using 2 Particle Cloud models and sending them to another Freak with a stereo band pass filter.
- I'm modulating the VCA of the Vraids Freak with the Noise Tools, and I'm modulating the cutoff point of each of the channels of the second Freak with a 2 random smooth signals coming from VCV Rack.
- I have a recording of Janso from Felt Instruments on Microcell and Magneto.
- I'm modulating the position of Microcell with an LFO from VCV Rack.
- Magneto is in Shift mode so I get some harmonics of the recorded sound.
- I added the flute after the recording of the main patch."

Here are the beautiful Felt Instruments - https://feltinstruments.com/
You can find the WAV file fo this piece on my Patreon page - https://www.patreon.com/posts/34020533

Here are some patch notes:
------------------------------------------------
- I've recorded Lekko and Janso from Felt Instruments into the Morphagene, Arbhar, Microcell, Mimeophon, and Magneto.
- The Morphagene is playing the recording back at half speed.
- Arbhar has pitch modulation on the playback so it plays it in jumps of octaves.
- Magneto is on Looper mode but also set to Shift mode so there's a change in pitch as well.
- Mimeophon is also looping the recording, but I mangled it a bit so there are hiccups in the sound every now and then.
- Microcell is set to Granular mode and I have the Noise Tools module modulating its position.
- I'm sending the flute first to LedRover from VoicAS for some extra warmth and crunch.
- The picture is of me with my father, and we used to drink Campari a lot together so that's this red liquid in the glasses."

Published on Feb 2, 2020 Omri Cohen

Create Brian Eno style generative music: 20 ideas and tools for Ableton, Eurorack, DAWless and VCV

Published on Apr 24, 2019 loopop

“Generative Music” is a term coined by Brian Eno to describe music that is always different and changing, generated by a system but led by creative guidelines, rather than typical music which follows a set of predetermined notes intended to be played the same way every time.

This video includes 20 ideas and even more tools for creating generative music inspired by Brian Eno's generative work. It's focused on ideas rather than one platform, and covers eurorack, iOS, VCV and Ableton tools for creating generative and probability based music.

TIMELINE OF IDEAS AND TOOLS:

0:00 Defining Generative

1:05 Simple randomization – Ableton MIDI LFO Max4Live device

2:10 Scaling random pitch – Ableton Random and Scale MIDI effects

2:50 Pitch to modal chords - Harmonaig from Instruo, with arpeggiation by Quaid Megaslope and Boss Bow Tie from ALM playing Rings from Mutable Instruments

10 creative ways to use LFOs (Synth tips and tricks)

Published on Apr 16, 2018 loopop

"I recently received for review the VariFO, a new and relatively cheap quad LFO module from VoicAs (http://voicas.audio) - a new eurorack company. With so many LFOs on tap, it inspired me to put together a clip with beginner as well as more advanced and creative LFO uses.

In this clip I explain what an LFO is, demonstrate how its basic parameters work (depth, rate, shape), and show ten different things you can do with LFOs:

1. Tremolo
2. Vibrato
3. FM synthesis
4. A Wobble effect with two LFOs
5. How an LFO can also be used as a clock or trigger in a modular setup
6. Using an LFO to sequence beats
7. Random sequencing with LFOs
8. How to use an LFO as an arpeggiator
9. How to create new LFO shapes
10. How to use an LFO as a sequence-synced timed VCA gate.

Used in this clip alongside VariFO are the Arturia Minibrute 2S, Disting MK4 from Expert Sleepers, and Plaits from Mutable Instruments"

Why Eurorack is AWESOME: 5 wish-list features added to DFAM by Moog

Published on Apr 10, 2018 loopop

"In my review of DFAM and the comparison to Mother-32, I mentioned a few features that Mother-32 had and DFAM didn’t. The ability to have different length sequences – either less or more than 8 steps, the ability to sequence notes, not just continuous pitches, an LFO, glide and ratchets.

And as you know me, if a feature is on my wishlist, I’m going to do my best to make it happen.

This video focuses on the beauty of eurorack and semi-modular synths – where either through internal patching or with the help of a handful of modules, you can get almost everything you want.

Alongside Moog’s DFAM, I use Polyend Seq, Expert Sleepers Disting in Quantize and Slew modes, and a cool new analog quad LFO module called VariFO from a new modular company called VoicAs (I’ll be reviewing this in an upcoming video because it has a few cool features I’ve never seen before - here's their site: http://voicas.audio)"
