RAFFLE
The SynthFest France offers this year a particularly exceptional raffle. With more than 12000€ of prizes, this contest is simply the biggest synthesizer giveaway ever organized.

Tickets at 10€ and number of tickets limited to 2000.
Raffle open online until April 19th 2023, and on site until April 23rd 2023.
Drawing on Sunday April 23, 2023 at 4pm, French time.

JOACHIM GARRAUD
The 10th edition of SynthFest France strikes hard, with Joachim Garraud in concert, Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 9 pm. The French producer and artist will be back in Nantes, his hometown, for this exceptional evening. Joachim Garraud will present a preview of the film "Modular California Vibes", a documentary on electronic music creation on board his solar mobile studio where 4 producers will record 4 original tracks in 4 unusual places during 4 days, thanks to the sun. A debate will follow the unique screening of this film in France, to then give way to a concert. Joachim Garraud at SynthFest France, the musical event in Nantes not to be missed.

These were originally housed in cheap Ikea bookshelves but last year I broke down and bought two very nice-looking Synthesizers.com cabinets, though I retained my own power supplies. The two 960 sequencers above are simply Behringer 960s I had re-housed inside full-size matching Synthesizers.com panels and cabinets."

"My modular interpretation of Steve Reich's 1967 landmark piece, originally composed for piano and tape machine. I've shortened the typical 15 minute duration with a version that is about a third as long by speeding up the phase a bit.

The 5U modulars I'm using here are two prototypes I hand-built in 2014 using mainly Yves Usson's (Yusynth) circuit designs - ones, I might add, that I painstakingly transcribed from his original printed circuit designs to my own veroboard layouts. These were originally housed in cheap Ikea bookshelves but last year I broke down and bought two very nice-looking Synthesizers.com cabinets, though I retained my own power supplies. The two 960 sequencers above are simply Behringer 960s I had re-housed inside full-size matching Synthesizers.com panels and cabinets.

I am using Ableton to supply the midi that shifts the phase and it is what is driving the two modulars. Each modular has its own built-in sequencer though and while I have done a version of this piece using those, the results are too variable since I'm basically setting the speed of the two by ear.

The MIDI visual that shows intermittently here is some freeware called MAMPlayer (Music Animation Machine MIDI Player)."

"a 'Maxi-Version' of a rhythm-based jam with some of my new components i have built. The devices are:
- Orchestrion Strings/Choir Synth (Described in previous Video)
- Analog Drumbox with 4 DS7-Clones and two Noise-based HiHats

"From the my last video that I uploaded, I was not able to show the filter from the PCB that I etched working. That is because 2 legs of one of the transistors were touching. More specifically their pads on the PCB. Anyways, I sorted that out and now the filter is working. Analogue Realities wrote in to let us know they have made a trove of Nyle Steiner documentation and images available on dropbox via his site.

Pictured left is Nyle Steiner holding his Steiner EVI. The image was also featured back in 2015 from Analogue Realities, on a documentary being made on Nyle Steiner (see this post for the completed film). I thought this would be a great image for a new post on a trove of his historical works.

The filter was used by YuSynth (featured posts here) and made its way into Arturia synths starting with the Minibrute designed by Yvves Usson of YuSynth.

A Live-Performance with my two DIY String-Synths
I used the Strings-Synth and the Strings-Choir-Synth 2.0
The Melody comes from the Elektor-Formant and the Drums are from my analog DS7-Clone Drumbox.
All Synthesizers are driven from my Flowstone Sequencer-Software and two Polyend Poly Modules
The effects are from the Elektor Formants Noise routed through a Steiner-Parker Filterclone and Ray Wilsons Noisebox (Musicfromouterspace.com)
All String-Machines are also based one Ray Wilsons cirquits
The Solo-Synth plays the YuSynth-VCO. The ADSR is connected with
the VCO`s CV in and gives the character of a Japanese Flute

-The Solo Keyboard plays a YuSynth VCO with Moog-Clone VCF. The Keyboard is a modified Elektor Formant CV Keyboard with 3 Wheels for Filter mod, Pitch mod and a wheel that creates a Vibrato for the VCO's pitch in."
