AnalogFX Announces Availability of Limited-Run LARYNX

AnalogFX's LARYNX has arrived. You might remember the announcment post, and SUPERBOOTH demos here, and here. You can find additional AnalogFX posts here. And of course AnalogFX's official website here.

Press release follows:

AnalogFX announces availability of limited-run LARYNX, an expressive analogue formant synthesizer inspired by the seldom-seen Synton Syrinx

DEVENTER, THE NETHERLANDS: AnalogFX, a Dutch synthesizer manufacturer dedicated to creating expressive electronic instruments for musicians, producers, sound designers, and synthesizer enthusiasts, is pleased to announce availability of LARYNX — proudly presented as a performance-focused analogue synthesizer that combines the vocal character of classic formant synthesis with modern expressive control, Eurorack integration, hands-on playability, and an affectionate analogue nod towards a rare, highly-coveted 1982-vintage monophonic synthesizer built by fellow (defunct) Dutch company Synton — with its first production run limited to 50 units, as of October 1…

By being built upon the proven architecture of AnalogFX’s acclaimed SER-2020, its compact desktop synthesizer inspired by the rare Synton Syrinx, LARYNX evolves that concept into a performance-focused keyboard instrument. Thanks to its premium 37-key aftertouch keyboard, extensive real-time modulation capabilities, and unique triple-filter formant architecture, LARYNX duly delivers an organic and highly-expressive playing experience.

Ultimately — unlike many modern synthesizers that rely on presets and menu-driven workflows, LARYNX puts sound shaping directly under a musician’s fingertips. From subtle pressure-sensitive modulation to aggressive vocal-like filter sweeps, every aspect of the instrument in question has been designed to create a direct connection between performer and sound.

Beating beautifully at the heart of LARYNX’s performance-focused sound are two CEM3340-based voltage-controlled oscillators — VCO 1 and VCO 2; a sub oscillator — SUB 1; a ring modulator — RM; a NOISE generator; and a unique triple CEM3350-based filter architecture — PEAK 1, PEAK 2, and LPF (Low Pass Filter). All combine to enable a wide sonic range — from deep analogue basses and cutting leads to evolving textures and speech-like timbres rarely found in traditional subtractive synthesizers.

Above and beyond that, this latest evolution of the SER-2020 platform introduces Formant MODE, making 16 preprogrammed human voice formants immediately available. As such, musicians can quickly create vocal-inspired sounds, animated basses, and expressive textures — and all without requiring complex programming. It is appropriate to note here that LARYNX also features a digital five-voice oscillator Chord MODE, although analogue monophonic and duophonic operation is always possible.

Placing expression at the core of its design, LARYNX’s 37-key velocity-sensitive keyboard with channel aftertouch is paired with AnalogFX’s Touch’n’Bend controller, allowing performers to shape sound naturally. Needless to say, LARYNX has additional performance features up its sleeve, so to speak, including extensive realtime modulation throughout its VCO, VCF, and VCA architecture; MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression) support; a built-in arpeggiator (ARP); a 16-step pattern sequencer (SEQ) — designed for both studio and live use, permitting performers to store patterns and instantly recall variations during a performance; 16 pattern memories; eight scenes, with 16 slots each; and stereo delay effect — DELAY L and DELAY R.

Ready for the modular world, LARYNX is designed to seamlessly integrate into modern electronic music setups with multiple front panel-positioned CV (control voltage) inputs and outputs providing extensive Eurorack connectivity, while flexible routing options allow the synthesizer to function both as a powerful standalone instrument and an expressive modular voice. Arriving at the rear panel, further connectivity conveniently comprises MIDI IN/OUT — standard MIDI DIN-5; USB MIDI — standard USB type B; EXPRESSION/SUSTAIN/HOLD pedal input; stereo line OUTPUT; and HEADPHONE output.

On the face of it, then, LARYNX lives up to its Inspired by a Rare Voice and A voice you can play tag lines with the greatest of ease. Enter AnalogFX Founder and Lead Developer Marc Stroobach, someone suitably qualified to end promotional proceedings on a high note: “With LARYNX, we wanted to create an instrument that feels alive under your hands. It’s inspired by some of the most expressive synthesizers ever made, but designed for today’s musicians who want immediate control, deep sound shaping, and a genuine connection between performance and sound. Every AnalogFX instrument starts from a passion for music and a belief that synthesizers should inspire creativity, not get in the way of it.”

Being built in limited batches in The Netherlands, the first production run of LARYNX — limited to 50 units — is now available for purchase directly from AnalogFX’s online Shop (https://www.analogfx.com/shop/) and select specialist retailers worldwide (https://www.analogfx.com/about/where-to-buy/) at a SRP (Suggested Retail Price) of €1,249.00 EUR (inc. 19% VAT).

Electric Cow Sound Chip Synth (aka MiniMOO) for Atari STE/STFM/TT/Falcon - features and sound demo

video upload by ako

Also see the Electric Cow EC909

NOTE: this is the first demo to feature the MiniMOO on MATRIXSYNTH. The only other post to featuring the MiniMOO dates back to this screenshot in 2007. The site linked there, Church of the 16th bit, is still live!

"Quick look at the Electric Cow Sound Chip Synth (aka MiniMOO) for Atari STE/STFM/TT/Falcon - including it's features and sound demos. This programme lets you access and edit parametes of the Yamaha YM soundchip to create sounds and play them back via MIDI. It's fairly decent synth tbh - the oscillator has various detuning, sub osc / 'stacking' options, capable of some nice chorus-y sounds, a noise source, amplitude modulation and LFO for pitch modulation as well as an envelope that can either be used for pitch or amplitude. The latency is useable with MIDI data that does not have too many notes per bar, and you can play it in real time, but if you throw too many notes at it, it gets a bit latent and/or seems to buffer notes and play them back after a delay. Judging by the name, I guess it was meant to be a MiniMoog emulator if sorts - but that's dubious at best despite that it's a really solid bleep bloop machine!

Download the programme from Electric Cow's archive here: https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/atari/mi...

VAV N-Wave: Middle-Out Waveshaper

video upload by Magical Synth Adventure

"Join me as I take the @control_voltage VAV N-Wave Middle-Out Waveshaper for a spin!

The N-Wave is a really imaginative waveshaper. Some waveshapers might fold over the peaks of an incoming waveform, some might rectify them - squaring things off like a fuzz pedal. N-wave keeps the peaks of waveform - like the top and bottom of a saw wave - intact, and instead lets you shape and turn up on the volume on a section in the middle of the waveform - leading to unique tones. This is especially true, as you can vary the width of this middle section!"

video uploads by control_voltage

Playlist:

1. VAV N-Wave: Step Sequenced Threshold
One fun live performance (or studio) use for the N-Wave is to connect a Step Sequencer on the Threshold CV and generate different timbres for each step in a sequence. These act as accents and add a lot of life and feel to your sequences and the feel can easily be changed on the fly using something like a Joranalogue Step 8 as your source of steps.
2. VAV N-Wave: Threshold Ring Modulation
In Part 2 of the VAV N-Wave Video Manual, we look at using the threshold control and bipolar vca cv to create new waveforms that have a mixture of normal and ring modulated (quadrature) segments.
3. VAV N-Wave Mangles a Triangle
Here, the N-Wave does quite a number on an unsuspecting triangle wave with the help of some nearby modules. N-Wave is kind of like that one kid's house where everyone hung out and cooked up weird DnD campaigns or something. But for modular signals.

"N-Wave is a novel waveshaper for the Eurorack modular format. Unlike traditional wavefolders and clippers, which operate on the peaks of a waveform, N-Wave leaves peaks intact. All you need to expand your sound palette greatly is a VCO signal and a few twists of the knobs!

Using its internal bipolar VCA (aka four quadrant multiplier, aaka ring modulator) you can apply gain reduction and polarity inversion to an inner portion of the wave slope that you define with the THRESHOLD and OFFSET controls.

All functions can also be controlled via control voltage inputs. LFOs, Audio Rate VCOs, ADSR Envelopes, 1V/Oct signals, sequenced voltages, sample and hold signals, noise, and sub octave signals are all very good choices and can produce results ranging from very musical to very strange. An external detector signal can also be applied if you don't want to trigger the detector on the waveform you're modifying.

If you like, you can also use N-Wave as a high quality bipolar VCA, attenuverter, or ring modulator with the THRESHOLD set to maximum and dynamically mute the effect by applying 0V or a negative voltage to the threshold either using a sequencer or manual control, which allows for hocketing and rhythmic effects.

N-Wave can also operate all the way down to 0hz (DC), so, in addition to audio, it can process LFOs, envelopes, 1V/octave sequences, and any other signal that varies amplitude over time (Sorry, square waves and pulse waves. Your super-sonic rise times are hard to shape in an audible way, but you do work well as control signals).

N-Wave is 10HP and uses Burr Brown op amps for the primary signal path alongside high quality Texas Instruments ICs that are carefully chosen to best fit their roles in the circuit."

Free Synth - FB3 by Full Bucket Music (No Talking)

video upload by Elektronick Musick

"Simulating the classic Kawai K3/K3m synthesizer from 1986.

https://fullbucket.de/music/fb3.html

'Simulation of the original wave generator unit
Original factory sounds
Up to 64 voices polyphony
User interface can be used to edit the original K3/K3m units
SysEx and User Wave import and export
Resizable user interface (not "N" version!)
Supports MTS-ESP by ODDSound dynamic micro-tuning
MIDI Learn – all parameters can be controlled by MIDI CC
Plug-in supports Windows and macOS (32 bit and 64 bit)
No AI tools were used, except for a few stylistic improvements to the English in the manual
Of course, FB3 sounds nothing like the hardware, and especially the filters are crap. That said I hope that all the non-nitpickers will have fun with my plug-in.'"

MOOG Sound + Drone Sound

video upload by Laurent Baloran

"In this example of The River 2’s multitimbrality, Timbre A is a typical 'MOOG' sound, while Timbre B is a heavily modulated sound with the VCA constantly open. Also note the musicality of the glide ;)
All of this is achieved with a 4-voice prototype ;) The final version will have 8, (12?) or 16 voices. The final panel won’t look exactly like the application, but it will retain the same ergonomic layout and organization as the software.

-------------------------------

"The Memorymoog is a classic for its epically fat sound! Though it's not a Plus, we actually prefer non-plus Memorymoogs around here as they are significantly more reliable. This particular unit is in beautiful cosmetic condition as well.

This Memorymoog was previously serviced by Memorymoog specialist Jareth Lackey at Synthpro, and all of the work has been checked by us to make sure it is up to our standards as well. As a finishing touch, we installed our own Memory Liberator upgrade which allows perpetual storage of patch memory without a battery.

This Memorymoog also comes with a Moog 1122 Dual Footswith Pedal, and original owner's manual.

S/N 2268

We believe in transparency when selling “pro serviced” synths so always include documentation of what services every synth we sell has received. Our approach to servicing vintage instruments entails both making sure every synth is working 100% now, and eliminating common failure points to preempt future issues.

This unit received the following services while it was here with us:

Primarily serviced by Jareth Lackey at Synthpro Restorations, we don't have the original invoice but here is what we can tell was done:

Power supply updated
all electrolytic capacitors replaced
Unreliable chips (analog switching ICs, op amps, resistor arrays) replaced
Controls cleaned
Tuning trimmers replaced
Fully tuned and calibrated
Here at Bell Tone:

Memory Liberator F-RAM memory upgrade installed, battery no longer needed and removed!"

MiniMoog Program for Akai MPC4000, Z4, Z8 Samplers

video upload by TONELAB

"Listen with Headphones if possible.

Quite possibly, the closest thing to having a 'Moog Plugin' inside your MPC4000, Z4 or Z8. Rather than settle for a traditional 'multi-sampled' Instrument, having only a few or a dozen (at most) Samples onboard, and declaring it a 'MiniMoog'. I wondered, 'why not capture EVERY KEY from the original Model D MiniMoog?' ..and give one of the most celebrated Synthesizers of all time the closest possible incarnation on Akai's most revered Samplers of all time?!

Furthermore, the MPC4000 is quite a beast, in that, it can Sample at 24-bit / 48kHz, which is perfect to capture such a prized vintage Synth that's revered for it's thick, rich tonality. From that point, I wanted it for myself.

And so, with the labor done, we now have, what I consider, the most ambitious MPC of all-time loaded with arguably, the most celebrated Synth of all time.. and well, here's the result.

A first look at this labor of love, and I can't tell you how good it felt to finally play chords with sounds from a vintage Model D! ..evidently, I overloaded the MPCs internal Mixer, but, knowing full well I did overload the MPCs output, I didn't think it was necessary to sugar-coat the 'first look', and thought, this 'overloading' was just as important to include as the rest of it. As one could expect, if you played 5 MiniMoogs side-by-side.. you too, would probably overload what ever Mixer they're running into, too.

A simple reduction in resonance and/or Program volume, and there's more headroom to reach with those 'wider' chords.

Anyway, warts n' all, here it is, just as I was discovering in real-time. The nature of all of 88 individually cut and looped Samples playing alongside each other. Something the original MiniMoog simply can not do.

Here's hoping you enjoy this fascinating discovery of how the MPC4000 'sounds' when faithfully loaded up with 88 Samples from an original 1976 MiniMoog Model D's Ramp Oscillator! (Actually the MiniMoog offered 96, but as most MIDI Keyboards offer up to 88 keys, I stuck with 88.

PS. 5 more MiniMoog-shapes coming soon!

Synapse Audio Dune 3: 50 Vintage Arp Presets. Sound Demo/Jam

video upload by Anton Anru

📻 “Nostalgic Flow” is a bank of 50 arpeggio presets for Synapse Audio Dune 3.
In this bank, I wanted to explore the plugin's broad sonic capabilities, including various filter modes, filter FX, different oscillator types, and effects. I extensively modulated the parameters of these modules using tempo-synced LFOs and MSEGs to create dynamic sound.
I also carefully worked with arpeggio parameters to add complexity—some presets even sound like sequences or chords.

📦 The download link: https://antonanru.sellfy.store/p/dune...

💾 The bank covers a wide range of timbres: warm, deep, dreamy, soft, noisy, bright, dark, distorted, cold, metallic. They will fit many genres, styles, arrangements, and mixes.

🎛 All presets respond to Velocity, affecting volume and brightness, allowing for accents in the pattern.
ModWheel adds expression to the sound through filter opening, detuning, vibrato, or additional movement.

💎 The soundset is universal, the arpeggios are suitable for all genres of electronic music, including Techno, House, Trance, Lounge, Downtempo, Funk, Disco, Pop, Acid, Hardcore, IDM, Drum'n'Bass, Breaks, Breakbeat, Trap, Electro, Ambient, Dubstep, EDM, Synth-Pop and others.

💡 Ensure that you are using the latest software version.
To add presets to the collection, open the plugin Browser, click Menu in the upper left corner, then select Import Folder, and specify the folder on your computer.
