Gotharman Releases Little deFormer 3 and Tiny LD Updates

Available at Gotharman's Musical Instruments, the update adds new resonator oscillators, smooth oscillators and microtuning. You can find demos here: New Oscillators, Resonators, Microtuning. Also see Gotharman's LD3: Color Of The Sky. Currently you can find all the demos and more on the first page for the Gotharman label. Posting the individual links for future reference as new Gotharman posts are sure to go up and make them more difficult to find in the archives.

Update 11.62 Details:

-New oscillator types: Smooth oscillators and Resonator oscillators.

-The 2 new oscillator types can be microtuned per key in an octave.

-More oscillator modulation destinations: Extra pitch modulation, Reso, Sample length and Portamento.

-Monophonic trigger system improved.

-Output Effects gain can now be adjusted.

Bug fixes:

-If linear envelopes were used, with different settings for each part, sometimes the settings of each part would interfere with each other, i.e. long attacks would appear on parts, that it was not supposed to. This has now been fixed.

New Gotharman's SpazeDrum Black

"Gotharman has today launched a new 32hp multi-function Eurorack module, called Touch Tuul, for pre-ordering. Final release is expected in October.

-4 channels.
-Each channel has one main function and one utility function.

Gotharman’s Introduces AnaX USB – USB to CV Expander

Gotharman’s has today announced the AnaX USB.

It is a USB to CV expander which works with many of our current instruments – Zaturn, SpazeDrum, Little deformer 3 and Tiny LD.

It has 4 CV/trigger inputs and 4 CV/trigger outputs.

All modulation sources of the connected instrument can be sent to the 4 CV outputs (minijacks).
The output range is 0 to +5V.
4 LEDs will show the activity of the outputs.

The 4 CV inputs (minijacks) appear as modulation sources, and it is possible to trigger parts from these.
The input range can be set individually for each input to +5V, +-5V, +10V or +-10V, to match the sources.

On Zaturn it is also possible to sample the CV signals and convert them into draw waves, for further manipulation.

Connects to the USB connector of your Gotharman instrument.

Comes in a black box 12.5 x 8 x 2.5 cm.

USB cable included!

Sample chopping is an important basic feature of any sampling groovebox, dating back to the classic Akai MPC, the Korg Electribe boxes and more recent devices like the Elektron Octatrack. Gotharman's Little deFormer 3 offers you three different ways to chop up your audio: manually with a graphical waveform editor, manually in real time and automatically. "I'm back in the home studio wardrobe! :D For this Friday morning modular synth jam I connected my newly set up 4MS POD X 48hp Eurorack system to Gotharman's Urano. The Pittsburgh Micro Sequence B module sequences the Erica Bassline Acid voice, as well as two Urano stereo voices. Urano provides another synth voice and internally sequenced drum samples, master clock, Delay and Bit Crush FX. The Happy Nerding FX AID XL adds some black hole reverb on top. Modulation comes from the Flame Joystick then and also some internal Gotharman random genrators and LFOs."

Oh-kay. Lots of granular effects going on here. As usual, the Gotharman SpazeDrum is on analog drum duty, the DIY deMoon 1.4 plays a noisy synth pad sound and the Little deFormer 3 mashes all of this together, while adding its own digital synth sounds and a cut-up SpazeDrum live resampling. Phew. It's noisy, crackly ambient synth music fun (at least for me ;-P ) in stereo!

"My Little deFormer 3's analog filter slots are all occupied, so I'm using Gotharman's Tubaz Eurorack module to add another one :D

The Tubaz filter uses a real low-power vacuum tube to create incredibly crunchy filter sounds. In this video I'm sending the digital LD3 audio through the Eurorack module, while controlling it via the deFormer's CV outputs. The band pass filter signal is then routed back into the LD3 for some granular and delay effects processing :)

For this modification I mounted a DIY MIDI controller inside Gotharman's Tiny LD granular synthesizer workstation, to give me more knobs, switches and a light dependent resistor (LDR), so that I won't need to lug around an external MIDI controller and more cables. The most flexible Gotharman synthesizer ever!

I was really happy with the flexibility of my Eurorack system, but since I spend most of my time running Gotharman's, and do not have very much time for playing music, I was not really happy with the lack of preset storage on this. I always ended up spending a huge lot of time tweaking knobs and rearranging cables, and not really getting any tracks composed (inportant or not :-)). This actually became a bigger and bigger annoyance to me, and in my Christmas holidays 2015, I decided to do something about it.

At first I started to design a module with 32 audio inputs, 32 CV inputs, 32 audio outputs, 32 CV outputs, 64 knobs, a display and memory. The idea was to connect everything of all my eurorack modules to this (hmmm...actually I am not sure if this module would have had enough connections...), connect the modules via an internal cross-bay, and adjust all the CV and audio levels on the 64 knobs. It did though, pretty soon, become clear to me, that this module would be huge and really expensive to produce. On top of that, not all parameters are CV controllable on all modules, so it would require quite a bit of soldering to get this connected to everything.

So I took a few days of brainstorming with myself, and came up with a new idea: The most important sound shaping thing (to my opinion), is the filter. So if I just could scramble things a bit down, and make a box with oscillators, VCA's, modulation sources, and maybe some effect modules, and just made the filters replacable, it would theoretically give almost the same possibilities as my eurorack system, but with added patch storage. And if I one day got tired of its sound, I would just have to replace one or both of its filters, and then I would get new sounds, without having to design or purchase a completely new synth. The design of anAmoNo X began...
