A very small (it's an experiment/quick look) video - Ken MacBeth/Stanley Arts/Stjohn Mantle

Published on Jun 14, 2016 macbethsynthesizers

"We recorded some stuff at the weekend in Holland- Stanley Arts/Stjohn Mantle and myself!....a variety of interesting analogue synths and ipad synths too! There's Elements on it, a slider synth experiment and moog on the ipad! Drone is octatrack...to render this vid fully to quality will be an over night thing- I've just done this pretty quickly so vid quality is low, but ok for ipad/tablet."

Published on Apr 30, 2016 macbethsynthesizers

"This is a short piece of music/sound that I quickly did- just testing stuff really. 1 x Elements Synthesizer/ 1 x Prototype Synth Module with Elements Filter/ 1 x Kay Memory Rhythm Machine/ 1 x old GDR Autoharp....which is a very peculiar instrument. I have gone for the 1976 Krautrock/Bowie/Eno like sound here!"

Overview videos from macbeth synthesizers below.
"Up for sale is one of the best desktop analogue synthesizers, the
amazing MacBeth Micromac-D. The synth is in mint condition, bought it 1,5 years ago from schneidersladen.de,kept it in a non smoking studio. Here is a description from schneidersladen.de

OVERVIEW

The Micromac-D is a small and powerful, fully analog standalone desktop synthesizer. It is the expanded version of the Eurorack module Micromac-R including the Kenton MIDI-Interface and some extra features. Unlike his competitors it has three voltage controlled oscillators and a classic Moog lowpass filter, as a tiny desktop synth it could become indeed the bonsai-version of the* M5* the huge MacBeth synthesizer!

DETAILS

The desktop version of the Micromac has not just CV and gate inputs to play the synth but also a MIDI/CV interface from Kenton, who stand for very reliable and stable interfaces .. and a few news with the additional LFOs:

3VCOs: VCO1 and 2 have saw, pulse, triangle and sine waveforms and the pulse width can be voltage controlled by external CVs. A low frequency noise with level control is available as well. VCO 1 can hard sync VCO2. VCO3 can be used as a modulation oscillator and can be disconnected from the master CV. Modulation targets are filter cutoff frequency and/or pitch of VCOs1and2. All VCOs have individual outputs, coarse and fine frequency controls, separate CV inputs for controlling frequency and pre-filter level controls.

The filter is a Moog 24dB lowpass filter. It´s input is a mixture of all three VCOs and noise. The cutoff frequency can be controlled by the first envelope generator as well as by an external CV. The filtertracking is switchable between off / half / full (0%, 1V/oct and 1.5V/oct).

The envelopes are ADSRs with a switchable release parameter thats time is depending on the decay parameter, just like the Minimoog. The filter envelope can be also used to control VCO2´s pitch what sounds great when VCO2 is synchronised. Furthermore you can invert this envelope´s characteristic. The second envelope modulates the VCA. If an external CV is patched to the VCA the internal modulation is broken up. A momentary button allows for manual triggering of the envelopes

CONNECTORS

MIDI input
CV in, CV out (1V/Oktave), Gate In, Gate out.
3x frequency CV inputs for VCO 1-3. 2x PWM CV inputs for VCOs 1 &2;
external audio input pre-VCF, individual outptus for VCO 1-3,
CV input for filter cutoff, external audio input pre-VCA, Main-Out

DIMENSIONS

Desktop synthesizer in a stable metal case, approx. 31 x 14 big with a
depth of 8cm. External 50W power supply.

Elements with Korg SQ1 x 2

Published on Jan 26, 2016 macbethsynthesizers

"Here's a quick video demonstrating the Elements synth I made with two of the stupendously cheap, versatile Korg SQ1 sequencers...really the vid is just to show how we can have 3 Oscillators and the Filter sequenced under control voltage....as always, in the hands of a real musician....you will get a better result!"

What does Elements Sound like? (40 mins, Audio Only)

Published on Oct 16, 2015 macbethsynthesizers

"I did this sound collage yesterday using 3 Elements synthesizers and 1 eight track machine. Not all eight tracks are used! I was thinking of Conrad Schnitzler and his solo works when I made this. I was also thinking of the Radiophonic Workshop too....all played by hand- Elements x 3, Elements Miniseq 1, Korg SQ-10 and 1 Ibanez Flying Pan Phaser...there is extensive use of the on-board spring reverberator and the Tape Delay Simulator...this is quite a long audio track but worth a listen, I think!"

Experiment- Elements Sept 2015

Published on Sep 12, 2015 macbethsynthesizers

"A facebook friend suggested that it might be a good idea to record what I've had playing automatically in the background while I work on Elements synths that are going out. Now I actually play them on this video- not so automatic! For those following this -so far 16 units released, by the end of this week- 40- consult Analogue Haven or Schneidersladen. This recording done direct to my Canon 600D camera....audio is not bad....could be better....just a quick demo!"

MacBeth Experimental 'Card' Sequencer Test 1

Published on Apr 25, 2015 macbethsynthesizers

"The MacBeth Elements Synthesizer was on show once again at the Frankfurt Messe '15. This was the factory production model that is finally in assembly and being manufactured. The sequencer being used on this video was made especially to demo the synthesizer at the Messe...I designed it in 4 days! It's very simple to use, has the usual tuning pots on the front panel for pit, but also takes cards with small preset potentiometers that you can tune up before a gig........and the cards can hold up to 10 notes each, an easy way to interchange sequences with no going out of tune....more on this later!"

Saturday BaSh- MacBeth M3X and MacBeth Elements!

Published on Feb 21, 2015 macbethsynthesizers

"Nearly 15 years ago came my first commercial product...theE MacBeth M3X.....seen here now with my 2015 blaster, the MacBeth Elements Synthesizer! The M3X is doing the bass stuff- the Elements most of the lead stuff. There is much Tape Delay Simulator and Spring Reverberator stuff going on here...as for say, apologies as usual for the second rate keyboardmanship....but as you possibly can tell, in the hands a of a skilled player....it's some machine!"

Elements Synthesizer External Input with Yamaha MR10 Drum Machine

Published on Feb 14, 2015 macbethsynthesizers

"I was asked by viewers on my Facebook account to post up a video of a picture that I took with a Yamaha MR10 Analogue Drum Machine plugged into the Elements Synthesizer External Audio Input. Initially, you will here the drum machine being filtered, and some spring reverb applied as well as using the dynamic Tape Delay Simulator at various setting. After some time I switch the routing of the External Input Amp to the Ring Modulator- that signal now being modulated by Oscillator 2...I've done this video because I am know cleaning up for a mega build. Yes, I'm building them myself!"

A 10 Minute Jam! by Ken MacBeth

Published on Feb 4, 2015 macbethsynthesizers

"Here's a quick jam that I did yesterday featuring the MacBth Mk1 Modular Synthesizer that I built as well as the up and coming Elements Synthesizer...when you build this stuff for a living, one seldom get a chane to actually play the stuff to any worth while degree- I'm not the best at playing, but I had fun 'making the noises' that I've heard on my old records! I used an Ensoniq ASR-10 to sequence some of this stuff, and also to provide the Piano, Bass Guitar and Drums...the rest I play myself...using two 3 octave CV and Gate keyboards that I built. Using left keyboard that I play - you can here is that new Trans Diode Filter (Filter 'D')that built in the 5U format....there a single MacBeth Mk1 Oscillator 'B' going thru it...the right hand keyboard is driving two Mk1 Oscillator 'A' units thru the Transistor Ladder, Filter 'A'........and playing a lead sinewave- that's coming from the Elements Synthesizer, quite haunting, quite spacey!........I think this vid has it's good moments, but also the not so good!....hope you enjoy my attempt at the old sound!"

Elements Tour 1 (Long Vid, Crude- ish Quality)

Published on Jan 27, 2015 macbethsynthesizers

"I decided to post one of a short series of 3 or 4 videos giving you a chance to see the how the Elements Synthesizer works....this first vid shows the the panel layout and functionality of the synth. So I stiched together this one, shot over the day. The quality of the audio appears to be ok- but don't look for a high quality vid, image wise....it's been compressed down a fair bit so that I don't have to sit for hours watching it upload to the tube! That being said and done.....you should get a good idea of what is happening, best wishes, Ken M"
