GS MUSIC e7 custom sounds, no fx

video upload by synthlegends

https://www.gsmusic.com/

"The GS Music e7 is a polyphonic 7 voice analog synthesizer from argentina with 2 oscillators, 2 sub oscillators, a 4 pole ladder low pass ladder filter, 3 LFO and 2 envelpes. It is multitimbral and also has a digital chorus and delay on board. In this demo I show some of my programmed patches. The e7 is astonishing good sounding with a vintage vibe. The sound is not so much modern analog as many present synths. It really sounds late 70ies and early 80ies."

U.D.O. SUPER GEMINI & SUPER 6 live performance

video upload by synthlegends

"Live Performance of the U.D.O. Super Gemini in Split mode (first tune) and Dual mode (second tune) plus the Super 6. So I played live three sounds.

The first tune is a 90 ies style rave track with super saw arpeggio and fat octabass sound on Super Gemini plus reso sweep sound on the super 6.

The second tune is a layered piano acompaning with the super 6 arpeggio."

UDO SUPER GEMINI custom performances - no talking

video upload by synthlegends

"In this video I demonstrate my own programmed presets and also one or two factory presets. I played them mainly in DUAL MODE, so I used two presets and layered them. I recorded them via both output pairs for upper and lower sound directly in the audio interface without additional processing or FX. The SUPER GEMINI is a very flexible and great sounding hybrid synthesiser with a lot of insane performance and live tweaking possibilities. You can use up to 8 pedals, the touch strip and a poly aftertouch keyboard for multiple routings. Thanks for watching this video, hope till the ende, because it is quite long."

Casio CZ-1 digital fatness

video upload by synthlegends

"The CZ series is a family of low-cost phase distortion synthesizers produced by Casio in the mid-1980s. It can sound very metallic but also fat analogue, almost like an American 80ies synth. It’s perfect for fat bass sounds. I played a lot of those in this demo.

The CZ-1 in this demo is most advanced Synthesizer in the CZ series. It doubled the memory, was multitimbral, also stored splits and layers as "Operation Memories", and added velocity and aftertouch sensitivity to the keyboard, along with programming parameters to control how velocity and aftertouch pressure would affect the sound. It features three modes 'normal' (1 tone 16 voice), 'tone mix' and 'key split' (2 tones with 8 voices each). In the 2 tone modes the chorus setting controls which tone goes to which of the left and right output channels.

This demo was recorded live and I only used single sounds, no overdubbing also. I didnt use any fx and mastering (only the internal chorus). Just pure, dry and raw.

I played lots of FM like bass sounds, PPG like bells, some fat brass sounds and also crazy stuff.

I hope you enjoy the video. Thanks for watching."

Kawai K3 review and tutorial

video upload by synthlegends

"The KAWAI K 3 is a nice sounding hybrid synth with ssm filter design, like a PPG wave. It has 33 waves and one additive waveform to program. Also there is a chorus section wich is a bit noisy but quite useful. It has aftertouch and you can route interesting paremeters on it. So it is an interesting synth with 33 wave, two oscillator, a low and a high pass filter, one LFO with 7 waveforms and two envelopes. This synth produces nice pianos, organs, also brass and string sounds, but metallic bell sounds as well. It is quite comparable to the Korg DW 8000 and Ensoniq ESQ-1, which are also affordable hybrid synths from that time."

Casio VZ-1 the forgotten answer to the DX-7

video upload by synthlegends

"The Casio VZ-1 was released in 1988 after the successful CZ line and became Casio's flagship synthesizer, replacing the CZ-1 at the top end as an ansewr to the DX-7 from Yamaha. The VZ-1 takes a hybrid approach to its sound generation. Where the CZ line used Phase Distortion Synthesis and the Yamaha DX line used Phase Modulation (incorrectly advertised as FM), the VZ-1 uses Phase Distortion for ring modulation and waveform generation but true Frequency Modulation Synthesis to generate harmonics. It is very complicated to program. The results are quite metallic sounds, very nice for bells and for PPG wave similar tones, just without that nice resonance filter from the PPG. It has basically 8 operators and you can layer 8 saw waves and get wide stereo spread sounds. It definitaly has its own character and sounds different to the DX line and less warm then the CZ line. But it is much more versatile than the CZ synths. In this video I did not use any FX just to demonstrte the raw tone of the Caiso. When using a bit reverb or delay, it really shines and the synth can sound also quite modern and useful in present productions. It is a very underrated synth which you can find for less than 200 bucks."

Roland D-20 - legendary TR and CR-Drums

video upload by synthlegends

"The Roland D-20 is a very underrated synthesizer, it is not sounding as lush as the D-50. It is just ab bit more lofi and crisp sounding, but it has a sequencer and ist multitimbral. There is a great rhythm sysex file from mixedsignalpatches for the D-20, D-10/110. It is worth any penny and makes such big fun. Thanks to the developer of this great patches, which gives the D-20 a very nice shine. No a began to love this cheap synth."

Oberheim OB-Xa vs Xpander

video upload by synthlegends

"How close can the Xpander sound as the OB-Xa? Most people think, the Matrix.12 or Xpander are much weaker than the OB-Xa. In this expample I tried a saw Wave sound with 12 pole LP Filter and a bit resonance. In the secoand example I only played a single oscillator. I am very impressed by the Xpander because it can sound as beautiful as the OB-Xa but has so many more versatility. What a fantastic synth it is."

Roland JD-800 Dream Pads

video upload by synthlegends

"The Roland JD-800 from 1992 is one of the best Roland digital synths (the Rack JD-990 is even more capable, but has no sliders). The JD-800 is a fantastic Pad Mashine and it is capable to create monstreous and magic dream film scores and pads. In this video I just demonstrate some of the typical Pads the JD-800 is for. Thannks for your great support of my channel. I almost got one million views and from publiction of this video tonight, there are just 1.675 views missing, I suppose tomorrow ore the day after I will reach the million. Will it by you? Have a happy easter and see you again soon."

Oberheim Xpander pure, dry and raw

video upload by synthlegends

"The Xpander is the last synth from Tom Oberheim with VCO before the company was sold to Gibson. It as the 6 voice version without keyboard from the Matrix 12, but it has more connectivity with serveral cv gate outs and 6 audio outs for each voice in multimode. In this video I made a demo in single mode without any effects."

Waldorf Wave 32 voices - some layered sounds

video upload by synthlegends

"This WAVE is really very rare, I got it from Werner Schöneberger and it got a new developed PSU, which is capable to manage the 32 voices without any problems. I just layered some sounds and made a demo of ultra fat textures, with much stereo panning, fat drones, bells, choirs and pads. With 32 voices it is no problem to layer 4 sounds to get 8 voices or even more to get 6 voices left. I didn't use any FX in this video, I just recorded it live without overdubbing. This demo is dedicated to Werner Schönenberger, who developed the firmware of the Waldorf Wave and updated it until his sudden death. Rest in Peace and live forever in synth heaven, Werner."

PPG wave 2.2 vs 2.3 are there any differences?

video upload by synthlegends

"I used to have a PPG wave 2.3 and I also got a 2.2 later on. Then I had to decide, which to keep and I compered them to each other. I prefered the 2.2. In this video you can hear some dfferences. The 2.3 sounds in many patches weaker and the panorama settings of the voices behaves sometimes strange. I suppose that the unit has some slightly issues, althought it got a full service and overhaul. The 2.2 didn't get any service at all. Also the envelopes seem to behave slowlier on the 2.3. When regariding the specs, the transient sounds in the PPG Wave 2.3 played with 12 bit or with non-linearly scaled 8 bit. The 2.2 played with 8 bit. Both PPGs used the same DA converters. Both used the same filter SSM 2044. In both PPG i had the latest OS 8.3 developed by Hermann Seibt. So I wonder why there are sound differences. My thesis is, that the 2.2 should not sound different from the 2.3. In this video it does. Now I only have the 2.2 in my studio, I sold both, the 2.3 and also the EVU, which you can see in this video."

Groove Synthesis 3rd WAVE vs PPG Wave 2.2

video upload by synthlegends

"Short Demo of 7 factory and custom PPG sounds reprogrammed on the Groove Synthesis 3rd Wave together with my friend Till Kopper. Till is the frist owener in Germany with a 3rd Wave and he lives only 20 km from my home. So we meet regulary to play synths. We tried out how the 3rd WAVE is capable to adopt the classic sound of the PPG wave. I have a 2.2 in my studio and it was quiet interesting, hard at the same time to recreate some classic PPG sounds on the 3rd wave. Our impression is, that they can sound very close. The PPG wave has some mistakes in the sound which made it legendary, so over the whole keyboard the sounds are different with aliasing in higher octaves an brizzelng in deep registrations. It is very hard to get this effect on the 3rd wave, but we think that the guys from Groove Synthessi did a great job to get the 3rd wave as a succeedor of the old PPG. The demo is without any FX or mastering. The sounds you can download free for the 3rd wave here: https://till-kopper.de/3rd_wave/3rd_W..."

Sequential TRIGON-6 vs Minimoog

video upload by synthlegends

"The TRIGON-6 has a similar architecture like a Minimoog Model D. There are 3 VCO with the same waveforms and a ladder filter. The T-6 is polyphonic but in this video I played it in unison and tweaked some sounds to get it sounding similar to the Moog. The filter and resonance behavior are different and the oscillators in the Mini sound better IMO. In the T-6 they are a bit harsh whereas the Mini sounds more creamy. In some passages the synths sound very similar, so you can achieve moogish style sounds on the T-6. If the T-6 can sound like a Memorymoog I have doubts. Maybe there will be somebody who can test it."

SEQUENTIAL TRIGON-6 Demo & Review

video upload by synthlegends

"The TRIGON-6 was the synthesizer, Dave Smith was involved in developement. It's platform is like from the Prophet-6 and OB-6 (6 Voices and 4 Octatve Keyboards, digital effects, arpeggiator and sequencer).
The TRIGON-6 has 3 Oscillators, whereas the 3rd Osc can also be used as a second LFO, it has a wide polymode section, feedback like on the Minimoog and a Ladder Filter, like from Moog, but with 2 and 4 pole. It has a lot of similarities to the Memorymoog, which also has 6 Voices, a mixer for several waveforms and a ladder filter. I never played a Memorymoog, but from sound examples in the internet, I don't think that the TRIGON can replace the Memorymoog nor it is a clone.
All in all, it is a nice synth, you also could see it as a polyphonic Pro 3 without SEM Filter.
In my opinion it has a big range of sounds, but not a all time sweet spot. It can sound versy sweet but also harsh and metalic.
Thanks for watching this video, see you next time!"

The iconic Waldorf Wave

video upload by synthlegends

"The Waldorf Wave was the most sophisticated synthesizer, which was produced in Germany, maybe one of the most sophisticared synth ever made. It came out in 1993 as the successor of the Waldorf microwave (1989). It was designed by Axel Hartmann and was highly regarded as a great insdustrial design.

The Waldorf Wave has 64 internal waves and 64 custom waves. It has two oscillators, three envelopes and three LFO. It has a curtis CEM Filter design, with low pass, band pass and high pass. It is 8 times mulittimbral and has 16 Voices in the basic version. In the bigger version, which is on the pictures, it has 32 voices and 76 keys. In this video I demonstrate the basic version and mostly layered sounds.

As you can see, I am tweaking around the sounds, especially also the waves and the behavour of the wavetabele envelope. Later on my camera striked, so there is no video content anymore. I hope you dont mind. Thanks for watching and listening again."

PPG Expansion voice unit EVU (PPG wave 2.3 in a rack)

video upload by synthlegends

"The EVU (Expansion Voice Unit) is basically a Wave 2.3 synthesizer without keyboard. It is developed as a predecessor of the Wave 2.3 to help the PPG system to get more voices. It is also superior to the then current Wave 2.2 in that it is 8-voice multitimbral and already has 12-bit technology. Each of the 8 voices can be adjusted separately in volume and pan position. Usually it has to be connected via the computer interface to the Waveterm and also a PPG wave synthesizer and the sounds can be controlled from there. So you have a 16 voice PPG. In my studio I don't have a Waveterm so I controlled this EVU via MIDI. This unit has the latest Firmware 8.3 so you also can control it with any MIDI Keyboard, but it lacks the sound tweaking. The EVU were very rare. The last I saw in as a auction on ebay was 7 years ago. There were maybe only around 50 units built. This unit is mint and I think to sell it, because I have no waveform unfortunately."

Oberheim OB-X8 - My Presets - No FX

video upload by synthlegends

"Here you can hear my personal programmed custoo presets (maybe I also will share them by interest). You can listen to some punchy basses, drones, leads, e-piano sounds, strings, evelving pads, brass and keys. Many classic sounds to listen, but thanks to adding triangle waves, mixing of wavesforms, the complete SEM Filter Sections including also the great bandpass and notch filter, I created also some other stuff.

As my most videos, I didn’t use any processing, although I was thinking of using a great reverb or delay pedal from GFI (just for fun). But I think for you to listen to the pure sound oft he OB-X8 it’s better to listen pure, dry and raw directly into the audio interface. I used commonly stereo in spread modus full. So it is brooooaaaad and fat ☺.

I really love this synth extremely much. It is a pitty that it has to leave my studio again - but maybe some time ...

Have fun to listen this video and thanks for watching. Make some music!"
