"Song for Henry" - on analog synthesizers

Published on Dec 14, 2015 organfairy

"In 1983 Danish television was trying to gain a more modern reputation and therefore they replaced the ordinary written programme presentation with an animated interlude showing a clock face that started as one round picture that had a connection to the previous show and during the one minute interlude the picture was replaced with one related to the next show.

I have tried to recreate this animation and I think it went quite well. I have used pictures of the synths that I used to play the music.

The music is the composition 'Song for Henry' that was one of the melodies that were used for the 1983 interlude. It is composed by the Danish keyboard player Kenneth Knudsen who is known for his well groomed hair and mustage - that guy was so 80's already in the early 1970's - and for his mastery of the synthesizer. He has been referred to as "the Joe Zawinul of Scandinavia" so he is a very respected musician.

I play Song for Henry on Roland SH-2000 (melody and solo), Roland JX-8P (Bass and percussive sounds), Korg Poly-800 (chords), and for the first time I play a solo on my Yamaha SY-1. So as you might have guessed I managed to repair it properly (there will be a video later)."

a bit similar to the bohm 12/24 from one of my other video's. This one is much more easy to program. All sounds from the Bohm. Some reverb and delay. enjoy!"

DMX Krew's Modular 101 Event Synth Patch

Published on Dec 14, 2015 mylarmelodies

"DMX Krew did a little Modular Drum synth and bass patching demo at London Modular's Modular 101 event on 13/12/15. This was in Das Kino in Hackney Wick, and god damn, you can't really appreciate it on video but that system is capable on severe amounts of low end. It sounded ace.

Especially rated his FM cymbal patch which was combined with white noise to make a separate snare patch, but with 'funky' inter-dependencies, which adds to the charm of course.

This is an Analogue Systems modular, with nothing fancy in it, just good modules patched well by a good ear."

"LP-5 (iPad) and MoDrum (iPhone) are synchronized via Ableton Link (*) over WLAN. MoDrum sends MIDI Clock to the BeatStep hardware sequencer, which in turn triggers MoDrum's Kick and Snare.

(*) Coming soon to the App Store!

LP-5/MoDrum: http://finger-pro.com

Ableton Link is a new technology that synchronizes beat, phase and tempo of Ableton Live and Link-enabled iOS apps over a wireless network. It lets you play devices together with the freedom of a live band. Anyone can start and stop their part while others keep playing, and anyone can adjust the tempo and the rest will follow.
You can use Link to play with several instances of Ableton Live, with Live and iOS apps, or even without Live in your setup: using Link- enabled apps on multiple devices, or multiple apps on the same device."

Plumbutter - Patch 004 & 005

Published on Dec 13, 2015 batchas

"Impro on the Plumbutter 1.

Direct outs: for the first time after 3 impros on this instrument, I'm using external signals to modulate the Plumbutter. All sounds are coming out of the Plumbutter which is frequency modulated by the Bugbrand modular.
I added and tweaked some reverb & delay afterwards in Logic.

One take: I cut a few seconds in the video, but a few moments where the audio level is not optimal or some frequencies a bit annoying (like at 6:23 for instance) still remain. It shows the other characters of the instrument."

Plumbutter - Patch 005

Published on Dec 13, 2015

"5th Impro on the Plumbutter 1.

I started to send external signal to the Plumbutter in impro nr. 4 and there are interesting sounds and a lot more to explore, like with frequency modulation for instance (here coming from the Bugbrand modular). The snare drum for instance get's pretty interesting.

Direct outs / one take: all sounds are coming out of the Plumbutter. Reverb & delay added afterwards in Logic."
