Introducing The Quill by Tabor - Wireless Motion Sensing Hardware Controller

Intro to The Quill by Tabor Published on Feb 24, 2016 Oren Levy

Remember this post on something new coming from Tabor? Well, here it is.

Update: I asked Oren how much the Quill would cost and when it might be available. He said expects it to run $99. He is currently looking for funding to continue development of the project. If you want to reach out to him, you can find his contact info on the about page of his website or you can leave a note through the form on http://www.tabor.io.

"A first look at The Quill by Tabor. The Quill is a wearable BLE MIDI device that can send MIDI data in various forms to computers/phones/tablets/hardware to make sounds. Use it as a compositional tool to think outside the box. Use it as a means of expression to add flavor to your DJ sets. Use it while playing other instruments to add nuance to your playing. There are already 30+ instruments programmed for the Quill and new ones will be made available monthly."

And some pics via Auxren's Adventures in the World of Synthesizers, Oren Levy's website.  Oren of course is the man behind Tabor, and I'm proud to say he is also a supporting MATRIXSYNTH Member!  :)  Thank you Oren!

"This is a beautiful Korg Trident Mk II analog synthesizer.

It is in incredible cosmetic shape and is 100% working.
The synth was overhauled by Los Angeles based tech/genius Tim Conniff in 2015, when it was fully checked out, serviced and calibrated. A brand new patch battery was installed.

It powers up perfectly in tune, no warm up time needed.
The photos show the outstanding cosmetic condition.

Very few of these Mk II units were made compared to the Mk I, so to find one for sale is hard enough. When you consider the condition of this particular unit for auction, I think you will agree it'd be a long time before another like it is available."

Vintage Oberheim OB-Xa Analog Synthesizer SN 813201 in "Museum Quality Shape"

"This is an 8-Voice Oberheim OB-Xa analog synthesizer.

It is in incredible cosmetic shape and 100% working.

It came from the factory as a 120 program, 8-Voice unit from the start.

The OB-Xa is considered by many to be the best of the classic Oberheims, providing more stability and features than the earlier OB-X while still having that raw, untamed sonic quality that was mellowed out in the later OB-8. Full 8-Voice units from the factory are getting hard to find, and settling for a 4- or 6- Voice unit with the hopes of adding voices later can be a headache and costly.

This factory 8-Voice is in museum-quality cosmetic shape. I cannot even find a single scratch or blemish on the front panel that prevents it from looking new! The wood sides are excellent, and on the rear the only notable blemish are some scratches along the fins of the heat sink (see photos)..."

Skye Is Falling - Studio Improv (DPO / MATHS / KORGASMATRON II)

Published on Feb 24, 2016 11brassmonkey11

"This piece is a live improv making my first focused patch on a eurorack modular setup I've just started putting together. Very textural rather than being a 'structured' tune like I usually like to do.

It's pretty basic, using a DPO being modulated by a MATHS running through a MI Streams and Dual Filter (Intellijel Korgasmatron II), then into some basic delay / reverb in Logic.

I then overdubbed some East West instruments and a bass part from the Virus TI2 towards the end to add a little more depth.

Tracked on the Apogee Duet, mixed and mastered in Logic Pro X."

Mutable Instruments Clouds - First Rough Test

Published on Feb 24, 2016 Genshi Media Group

"5 Minutes after unboxing, I did this rough test of the Mutable Instruments Clouds module. Still need to learn what all it can do, but so far I'm liking the "Instant Ambient" processing you can achieve with it. Now I'm just waiting for the MI Rings to arrive, and my little Make/Mutable Ambient Performance System will be complete (and then of course, I'll want to expand to another 3 rows of modules!) UPDATE: Shortly after doing this video, I updated Clouds with Parasite Firmware version 1.41. Here is a short video on Instagram of the results - https://instagram.com/p/BCMLm1DvMBQ/"

An Interview with Barry Schrader - Question 6A: "Trinity" Composed on a CalArts Buchla 200 System

6. How did technology over the years impact your music and creative process? Can you walk us through your albums and what the general process was like for each?

You'll find Barry's answer here. You do not want to miss this. Not only will you hear one of CalArts Buchla 200 systems in 1976, but you'll get some insight into the thought process behind the piece "Trinity".

"In exploring my compositions, I think it’s best to take a few works and deal with them one at a time. The first one I’ll consider is Trinity composed in 1976 using one of CalArts Buchla 200 systems. Beginning with Trinity, all of my pieces done using the Buchla 200 used the same basic patch" [pictured left]

I'd include the specs here but apparently gieskes uses gifs for each letter on his descriptions. Really.

AUM is the flexible audio mixer, recorder, and connection hub for your iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.

Connect hardware inputs and outputs, Audio Unit extensions, Inter-App Audio apps, Audiobus, soundfile players, built-in signal processing and filters, in any configuration you want.

Route anything to anywhere with mix-busses, effect sends, audiobus ports, and external multi-channel audio interfaces.

Record mixes, individual tracks, or both, straight into the storage space of AudioShare (no copying of files needed).

Play back recordings, soundfiles and loops as channel sources in the mixer for backing tracks, further processing or mixing.

Route MIDI in any way you like using the MIDI matrix.

Synchronize everything with the sample-accurate transport clock and play in time with other apps or devices using Ableton Link, a new technology that synchronizes beat, phase and tempo of Ableton Live and Link-enabled iOS apps over a wireless network.

Includes built-in processing nodes for various stereo processing, Mid/Side balance and conversion, EQs and filters, limiting, clipping and saturation. Or use any 3rd party Audio Unit extension or Inter-App Audio effect.

All controls in the mixer can be controlled via MIDI, including parameters of hosted and built-in plugins.
