Dave Smith Instruments Prophet Rev2 Synthesizer Demo

Published on Feb 9, 2017 World of Stereo

"Team members Josh and Matt take an exclusive trip to the Dave Smith headquarters in San Francisco to get the low down on the brand new Prophet Rev2 poly-synth. Direct audio and some awesome soundscapes await!

About the Prophet Rev2:
Dave Smith Instruments new REV2 16-voice analog synthesizer designed to be a successor to the Prophet ’08. Like its predecessor, the REV2 features two DCOs per voice and Curtis filters at the heart of its sound engine, but boasts a number of significant enhancements designed to make it more powerful. As Dave Smith puts it, 'The Prophet ’08 has been a real road warrior for 10 years now and people still love it. But we felt it was time to update it with new technology and new features and, at the same time, lower its cost.' Smith continued: 'The REV2 is essentially the result of our effort to enhance and improve everything we could about the original Prophet ’08 and, in many cases, double its power.' The most obvious difference between the REV2 and its predecessor is polyphony."

Mu Format VCO Comparison

Published on Feb 9, 2017 Synthesizer Reviews

"Side by side comparison of the Synthesizers.com q106 VCO, the Corsynth c104 Odyssey of Sound VCO, and the Analog Craftsman acVCO. The point of the oscillator comparison is to point out the feature differences as well as sonic differences between these three, readily available modules in the Mu (Moog Unit) modular format. They all share a synthesizers.com power header, are all 2 units wide, and all generate traditional 'East Coast' sounds.

The c104 and acVCO are available factory direct, as well as through www.noisebug.com

The q106 is available exclusively factory direct, at www.synthesizers.com"

Sync 02 Synth Event in Portland Set for March 4th

via Analog Industries, where you'll find additional details:

"Sync02 is the second in what is apparently going to be a yearly 1st-Saturday-Of-March affair. Last year's event went off well enough that we decided to do it again, despite the torential rain. As you may remember if you attended, Sync01 took place at JWZ's excellent CodeWord venue in San Francisco.

My goal is to never do the event in the same place twice, so this year's event is in Portland, on Saturday, March 4th at Holocene. It is over twice as big as last year's, so we got a partner. Audio Damage is doing it in partnership with Control Voltage. The manufacturers that will be exhibiting include:

"For sale here is a rare OSCar Oxford Synthesiser Company. This OSCar has midi and is 100% fully functional. It came just back from servicing and plays perfectly. Cosmetically it's in excellent shape. It sounds AMAZING, with a huge set of features for the time, including programmable harmonic waveforms, patch memory, sequencer, an awesome arpeggiator, duophonic capabilities (yes you can play two notes at once) along with one of the best filters I have ever played, allowing for LP, BP, HP, overdrive capabilities. Huge bass, leads, effects unlike anything else. One of my favorite monophonic synthesizers of all time, & I've played them all, from Minimoogs to Arp Odysseys to Synton Syrinx. If I had to describe the sound I would say it's instant Boards of Canada, smooth, bubbly, analog with an aggressive Aphex Twin side that can get gritty & rough."

Looks like SN 0305 or 6305
